Vegan restaurant offering traditional Asian food with local veggies and ethical products. Specialties are mie goreng and nasi goreng, Indonesian street-food dishes with fried noodle or rice, fresh veggies and spicy sauces. Also offers curries, hummus, pita bread and more. All of the desserts are raw & vegan. Does not use plastic of any kind. Also has a food truck - see Facebook for locations. Reported no longer using eggs as of 2024. Reported permanently closed November 2024.

Glad we, finally, found a vegan restaurant in La Rochelle/Ile du Re. And what a great place this is. Very good food, great variety of flavours and fair priced. Absolute worth the travel!

Perfect mid-cycle ride lunch - Edit
The food was delicious. For starters, we shared scrambled tofu on sourdough. It had a coriander pesto, spring onions and alfalfa. The flavours were outstanding. For mains we had the noodles with tofu and the dhal. Both were exceptional. For dessert, we had the peanut chocolate cake and apple crumble. Again, absolutely delicious. Definitely a must visit if you’re in the island.

Best vegan options on the island - Edit
Three of us arrived on a Friday evening with no reservation. The small restaurant was full inside, so we chose to sit on a table outside. The friendly staff fetched us a couple of blankets - and moved us to a table inside when it became available.

We ordered everything on the menu. All of the dishes were vegan and the best veggie food of the week on the island. Each of us had a different favourite dish, my personal favourite was the noodle dish. Would definitely recommend.

On an island where there’s almost no vegan-friendly food options, thank for for Matahari! The restaurant is fully veggie but almost all of it is vegan, even the desserts. The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and the owners are friendly. Wish I could have come back for more!
