Read more1. Vegan menu
2. Prices are good
3. Prompt and decent service
Negatives:
1. Food quality
2. Less vegan options than other Mary's location
3. A bit dated
I had never been to this location before but was at the Spring garden one once before. I had heard a rumour about some of the food they say is vegan not actually being so, so didn't return for a few years because of it. But after seeing the update to the others locations menu and being reassured multiple times I felt comfortable enough to return.
First thing walking in I thought, it's fairly dated and reminds me of a diner from the 90's. However, It is cute in its own way. I don't mind the novelty of a classic diner. Space is limited but we got a little round table next to the cash. I was disappointed none of the booths were free but the table worked just fine.
We were greeted by a girl who filled a couple glasses of water for us and asked if we wanted anything else to drink. We browsed the menu and found that the back page is their vegetarian/vegan menu. I was disappointed to see this location doesn't have the same selection of vegan items, but the options are still enough that i knew we would manage.
The veg menu consists largely of middle eastern cuisine. They have a mix and match plate for ten bucks and you can pick 3 items from the list. Our waitress was nice and answered the questions we had without hesitation. Hubby ordered grape leaves, cabbage rolls and a spinach pastry type thing and I got the garlic home fries, veggie patty and falafel.
The food was quick to come out and they give good size potions but unfortunately the food itself was mediocre. Both of us found all the food had a sour taste to it. I do love their garlic sauce which we were informed is made from potato and garlic, so it's vegan!
Basically this means we won't return to this location but may still try Mary's Place II again.

Meh - Edit
Used to enjoy coming here years ago, but now I find the establishment to be a little too grubby for my liking. Especially when you can find the same food elsewhere (Marys II on spring garden- diff owners) in a brighter, cleaner and friendlier location..
Read moreCheap eats, but not much else. Seems like the charm has left the resto.. they need to reset and regroup to bring it back.
Happy Eating! xx
Pros: Local resto, Central location
Cons: Grubby, Unfriendly owner (or manager?), Very small/limited seating
