No vegan food on the menu - Edit
They had listed ingrediens on the menu, even though some tofu dishes were listed without any animal origin they said it contained dashi. They made a dish of fried veggies with tofu and rice anyway that was pretty good. But I would not really consider the place ”vegan friendly”.

Honest? Rude? - Edit
They said they DO NOT cater for vegans. However, when we asked to removed animal-based items, they told us what they could do for us. At some point they said the food ‘will not be good’ if they removed some animal-based ingredients/condiments they usually use.
Read moreThey have allergy information on the menu. However, you want to be careful because I found some differences of the allergy information between English pages and Japanese pages. Be sure to ask before you order.
Pros: Some vegan food , They try to be honest
Cons: Thy were negative about making things vegan, Wait (better make a reservation), Differen

No vegan option on the menu - Edit
We asked for the vegan menu but as of Oct 2023, I think they do not longer make the effort.
Read moreThe staff was very clear that almost everything contains fish stock. When you ask without it, they lower your expectations regarding the taste, maybe on purpose.
We ordered Potato fries, one salada (with some sauce), another salada without fish sauce, rice, edamame.
We asked if we can have olive oil for the salada without fish sauce, but they proposed only salt as an alternative.
The sauce with the first salada saved the meal, we used to eat rice and the second 'dry' salada.
Overall, we ate enough. But it definitely need to improve to call it vegan friendly.

Confusion - Edit
We were so happy to find somewhere serving vegan food on Zamami. Marumiya was easy to find. We ordered off the vegan/vego menu, which indicates what is vegan, as well as allergens. The lady told us that we couldn't have the Peanut Tofu as it contained dashi. I found this confusing as the menu shows it's vegan and the only allergen is peanuts. Also, there are other reviews on Happy Cow about how good it is. So, we opted to be on the safe side and not order it. She also told us the dressing on the tofu salad contains dashi. I recommend asking before ordering and maybe someone can confirm whats going on.

Pros: Vegan menu, Cheap, Big meals
Cons: Confusion about dashi in Peanut Tofu, Average food

Oh, I did not know about this. Strange still, might have to double-check and eventually change the description.

Vegan food in paradise - Edit
I came here with friends and did not expect to find much vegan-friendly. The menu is very complete, using labels like "fish", "meat", "eggs" to illustrate the content of each dish. Hence, I planned to ask the waitress to slighlty change some of the dishes from the menu so that they were vegan. However, she then gave me a special menu for vegans/vegetarians. The soup they have is not vegetarian.
