💚🌱

Mapacho has a separate vegetarian menu, where you'll find a few vegan options, that taste good and are beautifully presented. I especially adored their tropical mocktails. Fast and attentive service and nice views to the river.

Tofu stir fry

Gate 1 took us here and the guide ordered my food in advance. Luckily he ordered a tofu stir fry. It was very good. There is a nice beer list here and the staff is friendly. There is a nice view of the mountains if you can get a table by the window.

Great views

The vegetarian saltado is actually vegan and one of the very few meat free dishes here. It was really good with nice views of the stream flowing in front of the restaurant.

Refreshing craft beer at the end of your Machu Picchu trek

What a great way to cap a stunning trek through Machu Picchu. Our group decided to celebrate by eating our last meal together at Mapacho.

The menu has a separate vegetarian section with items that can be requested vegan. Ordered the quinoa burger. The fry on the patty was really good; it held up with every bite, made even better with the chimichurri sauce. It was served with a side of crispy fries, confirmed that it was fried in its own oil.

To drink, I started out with aguaymanto juice to refresh, but since Mapacho also brews its own beer, I couldn’t resist an order of their IPA. No regrets!

While it’s right by the river, it’s also right by the train tracks so it can get loud and possibly smokey. Request to sit on the other side. Bilingual and very helpful staff. Lastly, Mapacho is very supportive of the local guides and porters which is a huge plus.

Pros: Vegetarian section on menu, Supportive of the local guides and porters, Right by the river

Cons: Noise and smoke from the train tracks
