Felt like coming home - Edit

I cannot rave about this place enough! Rowena (probably spelt incorrectly) and family are the most gentle beautiful souls. They make you feel instantly welcome and cared for. Rowena's wrap was delicious, as was her daughter's home made cakes! Old vinyl laying in the background and available for purchase! I left feeling loved and nurtured! Such an amazing place!! Such amazing people! Such amazing food!! Just amazing!! My omni friend loved it just as much as I did! In fact she had the best cake she has had in her life here!!

Pros: all vegan menu

Cons: no cons. cheap, friendly and delicious!

An Oasis - Edit

We had breakfast here every morning on our 3 day stay in Tavira. Mandala is a gorgeous little place on the seafront close to where you catch the boat to the beach so the location was perfect. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and interesting. Their fresh juices are so good and the dosa is incredible. Thanks too for the cooking tips!

Pros: Lovely staff , Delicious food , Great location

Pros: Veganes, glutenfreies Essen bzw. Bier, einfach zu Fuß zu erreichen, drinnen wie draußen s, Schallplatten

Cons: uns fallen keine ein

Lovely Place - Edit

Eclectic yet quaint find. Friendly Service. Few food items but lots of drinks to choose from. We tried the Green wine - fresh, local and easy to drink while enjoying the afternoon.

Charming and tasty - Edit

We stopped by for lunch today. It was the best food we've had in Portugal. The menu is small but it was the perfect lunch. They have nice beers, too. It is also a small art gallery and vinyl shop. The family who operate the cafe were so friendly, too. I would recommend it to vegans and non-vegans alike.

Pros: Taste, Price, Atmosphere

Cons: Small menu

Finally! - Edit

Having been intermitently in Tavira for the last couple of years, Mandala is truly a welcoming sight. Never before this city saw such a beautiful, genuine and welcoming, vegan cafe. The cafe still keeps some of its older characteristics, such as the floor, of when it used to be a fishermens pub, many years ago, but the new decor fits in with everything, since it's also very rustic. You feel you're walking into an old cafe, and it feels very very welcoming. Apart from its cafe options, you can walk around and see the paitings and drawings at the wall, or maybe take a look at their vynil colection. When I was there, I had a vegan tiramisu ( made with soy milk ) and a chai latte. Both were great, and btw, actually make a pretty good combination of flavours! The owners... What can I say... They're one of the nicest people I have ever met. Overall, it was an awesome experience, and it makes me really happy to find places like this in Tavira.

Pros: The owners, The ambience, The food

Amen to that! - Edit

Lovely find in a town and country steadfastly committed to carnism. The wraps were possibly the tastiest damn wrappy things ever. The decor was rustic and the owner and her daughter were regular cool cats.

Nice vinyl collection to have a rummage through. Plenty of vintage choones coming from the in house system.

Pros: V-e-g-a-n and craft beer. Happy days!

Cons: Wine was a bit vinegary but wet and alcoholic so i

Magical - Edit

You can manage in Tavira as a vegan but my stay was brightened by visiting Mandala and eating the delicious, home-made sandwiches and cakes. The prices are very affordable, cheaper than many other places we visited. The lentil pancakes were really filling and the dressing like nothing I have ever tasted. It was really the staff and the family atmosphere that made it just lovely to visit. They are really welcoming and I won't forget their kindness.

Pros: Great location opposite the river, Freshly made with fresh ingredients, Wonderful atmosphere

Cons: Poor signs outside so you must look hard for it!, Need more outside seating

great little plant based cafe. - Edit

We went in here seeing "plant based" on the board outside m, which got our attention in these parts. We went inside and met the owner and her daughter. Such nice people. We ordered some sandwiches to go and had chocolate milk (almond)while we waited. Really good vibes here it's all 100 percent vegan and they sell local art and used records which I think is pretty cool. If your in Tavira go here and chat with the owner I can't remember her name but she is so kind. They are only serving snacks as of now. But it sounds like they are trying to expand.

Pros: yummy snacks , delightful staff, cool art and records for sale

A lovely surprise to stumble upon! - Edit

We had little hope of finding vegan food in Tavira but were very happy to find Mandala on Happy Cow. The selection is small due to license restrictions but so flavoursome! The owner Rowena, as you'll read from the other reviews is such a lovely person, and if you can get there on a music night...It's pretty special. Very happy to have found this place and would heartily recommend!

Little Gem - Edit

Mandala is such a pleasant place to spend some time in Tavira. The atmosphere and the decoration is great, but so is the owner and her daughter. They are so kind and attentive!

The only food available, aside from sweets, was the bombay sandwich made with carob and wheat bread. Inside, there was a chickpea flour omelet, various chutneys and sauces and some veggies. I really liked it. Each bite would bring different flavours. The portion was just big enough.

I also had a piece of carrot cake. It was perfect.

Pros: Extremely kind owner, Pleasant atmosphere, Very good sandwich

What a great surprise! - Edit

Thanks to happy cow we found this beautiful place, in front of Tavira's river, owned by the most kind person, where we had an amazing Bombay sandwich (bread and omelette home wood-oven made) and a soy mango lassi that was to dream of. Hope they soon get the full restaurant permit because the food is already perfect as snacks, I can only imagine how great it will be as they're allowed to serve full meals.

Relaxing café - Edit

This place is so charming, and what creates a place is the people who make it lively. The owner is so kind and you can taste that the food is full of love. The OM-elette is delicious, with its special sweet sauce on the side, miam! Many details in this café will make you want to go back again. And it's the only vegan option in Tavira !

Pros: Good atmosphere, Friendly staff, Amazing tasty food

Cons: Small menu because they are waiting for the permit

Vegan Indian Fusion, music and art - Edit

The owner, from Goa, just opened Mandala and is in the process of upgrading her licenses so she can serve more food. She has hand pressed juices, homemade cakes and vegetable lentil savory pancakes with fresh coriander dipping sauce called OM-lette. Also a lovely sandwich with cacoa bread, chutney, and vegetables. Quite tasty! She also sells some products like a traditional fig and almond cake with brandy (this is a hard piece of cake that you slice and eat in small amounts. In the States, we eat this 'cake' with vegan hard cheeses. She also has wonderful chutneys (mango, tomato) and hot sauces that a local friend makes for her. Keep checking back as her place and food offerings expand. Be sure to make her sit down with you and ask her about her life. She is a lovely woman and very interesting to talk to . Oh, and she has vinyl records! We heard Joni Mitchell's old Court and Spark album while we were there.
Wishing Mandala all the best.

Pros: fresh fresh fresh, homemade, nothing prepared ahead., the owner!

Unique Place to relax and recharge your soul - Edit

Here you can not only nourish your body, but also your soul. The Mandala cafe is a very special place with an unique aura and atmosphere. For me it was love at first sight - once I entered into this magical place, I never wanted to leave again. This little cafe is a true gem and its owners are the most lovely people!! Here you can find your peace, have a HUGE pot of organic, fair-trade cafe (with a selection of several "milks") a mango lassi or a fresh juice, enjoy their yummy Bombay sandwich or their outstanding OM-elette ( made with chickpea flour) and finish off with an amazing carrot cake. Listen to cool music ( you can browse through their collection of vinyls and select what you want to hear), enjoy the local art at the walls, browse the shelves rented out to local artists and produces of delicatessen like chilli-pastes or vegan chocolate ( to come in October) or simply look out to the river ( they also have outdoor seating, but i preferred to sit inside) your will for sure love this place as much as I did. A true heaven - I can't wait to come back

Pros: unique atmosphere & concept, great food - focus on organic and fair-trade, wonderful owners

Cons: too far from Munich for a quick visit;), no restaurant licence yet, so only limited food
