Cosy plant based haven - Edit
Came here on our first night in Reykjavik. Loved the warm cosy vibe. Menu isn’t extensive - range of starters & 4 stews, all of which were gluten free. I plumped for the West African stew which was very peanutty but tasty & very filling whilst my partner had the mama curry which he also enjoyed. The garlic naan he had as a side smelled divine but sadly not gluten free!
Read moreSomehow we still found room to have a bliss ball each as dessert. The coco one tasted just like a bounty bar whilst the peanut butter one tasted like snickers. Both delicious

Garlic naan is a must - Edit
Was torn with where to eat but as soon as we walked past Mama and smelt the food, our choice was made.
Read moreWest African stew was full of flavour, paired with possibly one of the best naan breads I’ve had.

2/5 because of lovely little library - Edit
I visited Mama Reykjavik twice. My first visit was nice, with a cozy vibe, unique decor, and that adorable little library with different tarot cards, which I really liked. I genuinely value all vegan restaurants and love the concept behind them, so I knew I would be back.
Read moreUnfortunately, my second visit was very disappointing. Despite having a reservation, we waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Honestly, if a customer who was leaving had not asked whether we were waiting, I might not have even had the chance to mention my reservation, as the staff showed no interest in guests standing at the entrance.
It took over 30 minutes just to place an order, while tables that arrived after us were served first. During this long wait, no one even offered us water, though other tables received it automatically. The restaurant is small, so it’s genuinely hard to overlook guests, yet we still felt completely ignored. To make matters worse, a new guest who arrived later waited only a few minutes before staff thanked her for her patience and brought her water, while we had been sitting there much longer without attention.
Watching staff repeatedly attend to other guests while we were ignored ruined the experience to the point that I could not even feel grateful. By the time the food arrived, the atmosphere had already put us off, and since the food itself wasn’t spectacular, poor service made the overall impression worse.
I only ordered a starter, a salad, two drinks, and a piece of cake, and the total came to around 10,000 ISK (~300 PLN). While this is a reasonable amount for a meal in Reykjavik, I normally do not mind paying for a good experience, but when the price equals poor service, it makes the situation extremely frustrating.
The reservation confirmation says "We welcome you with an open heart," which felt almost ironic given how we were completely ignored during our visit. Sadly, we left feeling completely let down and I will not be returning.
Pros: Lovley little library
Cons: Ignorance despite reservation, Poor service for the price, Promise vs. Reality

First dinner in Reykjavik - Edit
Was a little tricky to find despite the two sandwich boards showing the way. You walk around the building to get to the stairs. Loved the cozy vibe and loved the food. Planning on eating there again during this trip!

Hippie cafe - Edit
Cute little hippie cafe with a small menu of bowls of stew, salads, and a few apps. The food was good and healthy but not amazing. It was a nice place for lunch but I might not suggest it for dinner.

Nice place - Edit
Mama’s is a small, cozy and friendly place in the shopping district. We had the dahl and a smoothie and the cheesecake. Everything was really good. The prices weren’t bad, relatively speaking.

Hidden upstairs in the heart of Reykjavik is a lovely small restaurant entirely vegan. We enjoyed warm lentil soup, naan bread, orange one juice finished with their phenomenal cheesecake…yum.

An alternative vibe venue with fairly tasty food - Edit
Been to Mama a few times, tried several mains, and they tend to be fairly nicely spiced and flavoured, which is a nice change to vegan options.
Read moreFeels very homemade, lots of love put into it.
Well presented. We were a bit put off by the amount of fat on the naan breas though, and tried to drain it a bit.
As usual though, prices are high, but it's difficult to avoid anywhere in Reykjavik.
Pros: Tasty vegan foods, Fair portion sizes
Cons: A bit too oily at times

Warm hearth in frozen land 🍜🥶🍜 - Edit
Had the absolute pleasure to experience this wonderful little spot in Reykjavik. Unlike most, I love the cold (although it wasn’t particularly chilly when I visited) because it makes the warmth more enduring. The soups here are perfect balance for the fringed weather and the garlic naan is to die for

Very delicious! We had to go back - Edit
Mama is amazing. The ambience is great and warm. Even the smell upon entering... delicious! The food was good, big portions as well. We had the bread with hummus, the cauliflower soup, Mama's Curry and the West Afrika stew, all amazing. Mama knows what they're doing, so do visit!
Read more- we went again at the end of our stay, because we had to try the other stews. We had the Dahl and Chili and both were great. The Chili was very spicy, so do keep that in mind. Also the cheese cake was tasty!

Cozy and friendly with great food options - Edit
We came there twice because it was so good- and had several main dishes (curry, lentil, African stew) and sides (hummus) and rainbow salad. All was tasty and came very quickly. They were out of the African stew one of the days and the other day they sadly did not have the cheesecake...if there is something specific you want, you may need to go more than once.
