Good food and excellent location - Edit
Stopped here for lunch and found out that the bistro serves one plate with a few different items on it with the option of soup. It was good food and the location was cozy and quiet in an outside courtyard. Lunch is not served until 11:30am and they take cash only.
Pros: Wholesome food, Quick service, Nice location
Cons: Cash only, Serves food starting at 11:30am

nice and cosy place - Edit
I really love the Makro1 in Vienna, as it has a nice outdoor area and is somewhat of a hidden gem in the old city of Vienna. It is a very quiet place and the chef seems to be always very happy and friendly. The food is creatively prepared and very delicious. I would definitely recommend going there
Pros: cosy place, friendly staff, wonderful cakes

Delicious and unique experience - Edit
I ate many times at Makro1 and it has always been delicious! The food is creative and colourful, each meal is freshly cooked right in front your eyes, it´s also inspiring for me to what to cook at home. The staff is friendly and welcoming, the garden outside is very nice and special. I also like that the food is organic only and local and that they show political interests with "stop animal testing"- and Amnesty International stickers or presenting petitions for environmental causes in their shop. Sometimes it´s not easy to get a free spot but the short waiting time is definitly worth it! Especially the delicious desserts are worth it ;)

Delicious macro vegan meal - Edit
Delicious macrobiotic restaurant with a very good lunch menu. I had the soup and macro plate and they were very tasty and definitely healthy. The vegan dessert was also outstanding. I also enjoyed the setting. The little plaza where this restaurant is located is very relaxing.

Good lunch in the centre of Vienna - Edit
Makro 1 has a really lovely and quiet outdoor seating area in the centre of Vienna. It's only about 5 min away from Stephansplatz. They offer a variety of organic juices - I especially love the HasenFit ones. For lunch you can always get a soup and/or the main dish. The last time I ate there I had rice, lentils and 3 different salads (beetroot, green salad and cabbage). It all tasted good! I really enjoy more simple meals like that. The prices are also ok considering you are in the city centre.
Pros: nice outdoor seating, in the city centre, yum food and large portions

Communal Dining - Edit
Hard to find and a bit expensive but it is a veggie place in the centre of Vienna so it's not surprising. The daily dish was tasty, staff were great and I liked the idea of strangers all dining around 1 big table. Feels like a big family kitchen,
Pros: Communal dining, Nice staff
Cons: Hard to find, Expensive

Makro 1 - Edit
The place is tiny and not so easy to find (hidden in a court off the street). It is mainly an organic shop with one big table where you can sit. The staff was friendly, but I was not so impressed by the menu. All is vegan, but there was only one dish (which was made fresh on front of your eyes, so that is a plus) and two dessert options - one freshly made cake and a tiramisu. But all in all it was a bit too alternative even for me. Also quite expensive.

Quaint, cosy and surprisingly different. - Edit
Makro 1 was a very different and heartwarming experience for my partner and I. We were the first people to arrive in the welcoming restaurant and found there was just the one long table to sit at. The kitchen space was in clear view to all, with three lovely ladies preparing and cooking their magic. There is one set menu on offer per day, which the ladies of the house accommodated to a gluten-free option. As we received our meals (which was the best miso pumpkin I have ever consumed), another lady had entered, as well as another couple, casually joining us around the one long table. Soon enough, the table was full and we felt as though we had sat down for a Christmas dinner with a large, vegan family. We left Makro 1 feeling humbled and fortunate to be in a world surrounded by such lovely people.
Pros: Delicious food, just like Grandmas cooking , inviting area.
Cons: Slightly expensive, but filling.

Fantastic Fixed Menu Vegan Lunch Spot - Edit
This place is an absolute gem. They offer a daily vegan menu for lunch that can be ordered with or without soup. Desserts also available. The ladies here are lovely and the communal table is a great way to chat if you want to or you can just eat and go. There is outdoor seating too but it was a bit cold for that. The food was fantastic and healthy. So great to get some real vegetables in Vienna. This place was without a doubt a favorite in Vienna and on the trip too. Lunch only. It is also a store with produce and packaged items.
Pros: Food, Menu

Amazing! - Edit
A great break from all of the heavy, processed stuff that one can end up eating while traveling. The food is very simple: a soup and a plate, and the plate always has one grain like rice or couscous and 5 different veggie dishes. All really fresh, tasty, and simple. You can get regular size, or really go large for a few euros extra. Lots of yummy drinks.
Beautiful secluded courtyard, but not much seating, so an off time is your best bet if you want to sit outside on a nice day.

Cute! - Edit
The garden is one of the cutest and cosiest in all of Vienna. Food is really good and healthy but after less than an hour, I was hungry again. And I'm usually not a big eater. So maybe order a big plate if you're really hungry :)
Pros: the garden!, very nice staff, good location
Cons: portions sometime not big enough

Great food - Edit
Makro 1 is a small shop that offers lunch from around 11:30am - 2:30pm altough you should not arrive late. Outdoor seating in summer in the nice patio where the shop is located. The lunch is vegan and microbiotic and from the 5 times I´ve eaten it always was delicious. They offer good vegan desserts as well.
About 99 % of the products they sell are vegan.

Highly recommended! - Edit
A highly recommended place and a must to visit if or when you are in Vienna. Not super easy to find unless you carry a GPS/phone but it's close to the camera store on the same street in on a court yard which may or may not be advertised from the street. Food with a local/traditional touch, soup and several fantastic desserts to choose between. In and outdoor seating. Extremely nice and helpful staff who speaks english. Make sure you take notice of what times food is served which is not the same as the opening hours in the shop. Highly recommended!

Little gem of a place in Vienna's 1st district - Edit
This small vegan eatery is located on "Fleischmarkt", which in German means "meat market". That says something about the sense of humour of the people running the place.
It has one single menu, prepared in the kitchen behind the counter in large pots for all to see. The menu is composed of a soup (facultative) and a plate of 4-5 vegetable and leguminous. It might look like plain simple food but don't get fooled by the lack of decorum, you will be impressed by the subtle flavours and originality of the various dishes. If the weather permits, you can sit outside in the little courtyard, or inside at the big table. It's all very very friendly and unpretentious. And since the restaurant doubles as organic shop, you can also buy your fruits and vegs there.
Pros: the food, creative and very tasty, The place, a little quirky, friendly, The people, warm and unpretentious
Cons: Can be hard to find the first time, Not many places to sit inside

Too small to sit - Edit
We found this cute restaurant using our happycow app. We were visiting Vienna in the winter so there were no patios open. This meant that my family of 5 could not eat at this restaurant. Makro is just that: tiny. There is ONE table inside. One. There is a love seat with a coffee table, and there are a few stools against the window ledge to eat at as well. If there are more than 10 people sitting there is no space for anyone else. Unfortunately for everyone else that means that our family would take up half of the available seats. It was really too bad that we couldn't sit and eat since the restaurant smelled delicious. (I think it was the soup).
So if more than two are planning to eat here, arrive early or come in the summer sun when you can sit outside.
Pros: Vegan, Food smells good
Cons: SMALL, ONE table, no place to sit inside

fantastic - Edit
The food here, to me, tasted so extremely delicious, really good quality organic vegan foods. The cakes tasted incredible. They don't use wheat, they told me, because more and more people who are eating healthy organic food try to avoid wheat nowadays due to allergies etc.. this fact, coupled with the fact that they are totally organic and vegan, friendly and everything tastes delicious, what more can i say, i can only strongly recommend you visit this place if you value quality organic vegan food. Price range is normal and the place is so welcoming and rustical atmosphere.
Pros: organic, vegan

Anything but macro... - Edit
Despite its name, this restaurant is anything but macrobiotic. Perhaps in an earlier incarnation it was. Nonetheless, the food is lovingly prepared, tastes quite good and is served by a friendly, nice staff. On the downside, the portions are *extremely* small. OK, it's all organic, but still....
Pros: tasty, well prepared food
Cons: small portions, not macrobiotic!

AWESOME - Edit
Vienna has great food for vegans. A lot of it is deep-fried and greasy. Makro 1 is the perfect place to go if you want some really healthy, but still DELICIOUS food.
I went with my wife, not knowing what to expect. They have a set menu which is different each day. It comes with a grain, veggies, salad, and something hearty. You can order a small portion, or large. We were told the small is usually big enough, and it was. I can't imagine how huge the large portion must be.
The staff is super-nice and friendly. So nice, in fact, that they refused my tip on my second visit, telling me my fist tip had been too large! There is a communal table and a few little private sofas and spots to eat. Very cozy and home-like ambiance.
We went more than once, and each time the food was great! The carob cake was also moist and delicious. This really was one of our favorite restaurants on our honeymoon (9 cities in 6 countries). Don't skip this place!
Pros: Great Food, Friendly Staff, Home-like atmosphere
Cons: Too far from Los Angeles :-)

Great food - Edit
We had lunch here twice, as it was really close to our accommodation, both times was very delicious macrobiotic food, one menu with or without soup. Their tort was superdelicious too! The two ladies serving and cooking the food were sweet and helpful too. Strongly recommendable place:)

Hard to find but worth searching - Edit
Makro1 was a lovely place to eat out! The ladies serving us were SO friendly and helpful. We sat outside in the yard which was lovely with the fountain and everything. The food is simple but good and mostly vegan. There are also some snacks to take away. For desert we had a vegan yoghurt cake and a carob cake - both absolutely delicious. For two people together we paid 22€ (including two cakes and a small and a big dish of the day with soup) - not particularly cheap but SO good.
Pros: vegan food and cakes, super friendly service, atmosphere
Cons: maybe a bit pricey

A gem - Edit
This restaurant is hard to find - it is inside a courtyard to the right of a steakhouse actually - there is a whole complex of stores, a spa, and a restaurant called Mandalahof.
There is only one "plate" every day, you choose small or large, with or without soup. You sit at a large table. It is also a health food store, and the merchandise is along the walls.
You can get a whole thermos of tea for 1.5 euro
Espresso with vegan milks is 2-2.5 euro
Vegan cake and delicious vegan apfelstrudel
Affordable - I got a thermos of tea, a soup, a large plate of food, and 3 slices of apfelstrudel to take home - everything cost 16 euros.

Completely wonderful! - Edit
I absolutely adored this little place. And I mean little. There is one large communal table and several smaller seating areas around the restaurant/shop. There are also a couple of tables outdoors, which were lovely. The kitchen is visible to everyone, so you can see what you're getting and how they make it.
The food was delicious. We went for lunch and it was a set menu. There was an option of a small or large portion. I went with the small and it was more than enough for lunch. The cost was about 8 euros and included soup to start, followed by a plate piled high with various vegan dishes. The ingredients were so fresh and you could tell they were made with love.
The two ladies working there were so friendly and patient with my poor language skills. Overall though, the food was wonderful and the atmosphere was delightful. Highly recommended.
Pros: Cost, Fresh ingredients, Atmosphere & Friendliness
Cons: A bit away from main tourist areas
