Nice place to sit outside surrounded by trees

Every day another well-priced vegan menu. The one we tried was great. Service was really nice.

Cons: Menus only available in Slovak

Caught our heart and stomach!

Full disclosure, this review might be slightly biased since we simply fell in love with this place 😃 The place is not fully vegan but both their daily and weekend menu contained many vegan options - when we visited, the entire weekend special menu was vegan, and the daily menu is often completely vegan as well.
Yes, they do serve great food here - especially the weekend special, hotdog with fried soy strips was definitely the best vegan hotdog I have tried so far. We also tried their vegan burger with their in-house made legumes patty and their take on 'fašírky' which are basically small versions of meatloaf made from the same mixture. Everything tasted great and their sauce to complement baked potatoes made from lentils was light and had a great flavor.
Yes, the service was super friendly - lone waitress was literally running around so that the guests won't wait when the place was very busy, and kept apologizing for the long waiting even though we did not notice any extensive waiting time.
Yes they also have a nice, small zero waste shop but the main reason why we felt in love with this place is that Makovice is THE place where you want to spend time with your family, repeatedly and extensively. The moment you approach the building with large outside kids playground and a terrace under the trees, you know that the owners have families in mind when they designed this place, and the equally large inside play area, completed with a climbing wall (!) for kids only confirms that you will not want to leave any time soon.
Was it the best vegan food I ever had? Probably not. Was it the best service I ever received? Also not - but very close. Was it the most vibrant and beautifully designed bistro I ever visited? No again. But it was most likely the best I felt in a restaurant in the last many, many years. Suffice to say that we repeatedly wished that we either lived nearby, or could move here 😆
Once again, I am not saying that this is the most objective review - even though the food truly is delicious here - but the fact is that Makovice is exactly what we want right now. Place for our family to feel at home that caught our hearts and stomachs.

Pros: Delicious food, predominantly vegan, Super friendly staff

A lonely offering in Stupava

This restaurant offers one daily menu at home-made quality level (soup, main dish + salad). It was primarily vegetarian but vegan options were offered more and more often until it seems they transformed to fully vegan. I would reach out to the owner and in case confirmed I would propose their reclassification at Happy Cow to Vegan. Since they're focused on zero waste style, it is advisable to book the lunch ahead (doable everyday until 11:00) since the number of protions is limited. Aside from restaurant itself, Makovice serves also as an educational center for eco-friendly alternatives and self-development.

Pros: home-made level of quality, eco-friendly, friendly staff

Cons: portion reservation advisable, one daily menu on offer
