amazing staff and amazing food - Edit
Unfortunately not fully vegan but the options are delicious.
Read moreOption wise you have mushroom (coated, similarly texture to chicken) vegan haggis, or an interest (hear me out) sausage made with oats and onions.
We ordered all 3, the mushroom main, with the star of the show bean mash (sounds strange but oh my god it was the best part of the meal for me).
The sausage i ordered with normal vegan mash made with olive oil. Was also really really good.
And the starter/ side of vegan haggis.
The server was lovely, recommended the mushroom and the bean mash, he wasn’t wrong!
Even let us try a whiskey for free ❤️ Lovely place! ( Book ahead the day before or even sooner, can’t book on the day) 🍲
Pros: friendly staff, amazing recommendations, delicious food
Cons: would love them to have more room

Fantastic - Edit
Something for everyone here. Great choices for vegans / vegetarians. Lovely staff. We had to wait an hour for a table because we didn't pre book but that was fine.

Vegan haggis 🤯 - Edit
We got to try something we’d never eaten before – vegan haggis, sausage, and mash! 😍 The flavors were incredible – the haggis was perfectly spiced with a rich, hearty texture, and paired with their signature creamy mash, it was a match made in heaven. It was fun to be able to try Scottish comfort food with a vegan twist.

Enjoyed every bite - Edit
Loved the mash potatoes, gravy, haggis, and mushrooms. Best part was it was vegan with so much flavor. I would definitely go back for seconds if I was in the area again.

Delicious.... - Edit
Visited the walk-in and just had to wait 10-15 minutes for a table, which was fine as they take your number and text you when the table is free - great idea. Got one of the vegan options - Skirlie Vegetarian Sausage and olive oil mash. It was SO tasty. Just delicious. And the service was brilliant, Ray/Rae (apologies, not sure if the spelling) was just a legend and so helpful and friendly. My friend got a regular vegetarian classic mash and a portion of tenderstem broccoli which was also amazing. I would love to have this place near where I live.

Absolutely excellent other than half the haggis serving being dry :( - Edit
I hate to only give three stars, because half of the meal was five stars: outstanding vegan peppercorn cream sauce with very prominent peppercorn flavor without being overpowering, a silky smooth mash, and a flavor-packed neeps on top.
Read moreThe one issue? Half of the veg haggis was dry to the point of being crunchy. Still edible and enjoyable thanks to the cream sauce, but at £17 a plate I’d really expect the kitchen to be checking doneness and texture of the dish’s main ingredient during the plating process.
Still recommended nonetheless!

Excellent vegan haggis - Edit
I was surprised at how fancy this vegan option felt. Be careful to check when they serve it that it's not the vegetarian version which happened to me. It was worth the wait to get the vegan one and totally delicious.

Comfort food at its best - Edit
Three different types of vegan mash! Our favourite was the whole grain mustard, followed by the Smokey bean and in third place but still lovely was the olive oil mash. Served with vegan haggis and vegan sausages with a soya based whisky cream.

Great option for mixed dining - Edit
We had two vegans, two veggies and two meat eaters in our group and everyone loved this fab little find! Food was to die for. Myself and my mum shared a vegan haggis and vegan sausage dish. Even 3 types of vegan mash and vegan creamy peppercorn sauce. The mushroom growing room is a fun little addition too. Great service to boot. A great little find in Edinburgh. Busy though so pre-booking advised though we did get lucky and nab a walk in.

Not full vegan place but vegan options were GREAT! - Edit
Makars Mash serves non-vegan dishes but the two plates we had that were vegan were great. The traditional skirlie vegan sausage with smoked bean mashed potatoes was flavorful, filling, and hit the spot. I loved it! The Woodlands mushroom crown on a tarragon cream sauce (all vegan) was delicious as well. The tarragon cream sauce was amazing. It's nice to have solid good vegan options when traveling with non-vegan friends. The atmosphere is light and fun. The staff is very friendly. Loved it. Highly recommend in you want a hearty vegan meal. The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star is because it serves non-vegan food.

A chilled atmosphere with friendly staff. I had the vegan haggis with bean mash which came in a lovely creamy, whisky peppercorn sauce. There were a few vegan options available on the menu.
