Great vegan options - Edit
The food is delicious and staff was well aware of what is vegan and vegan friendly on the menu. She explained the options to us and we were really happy with the food. It’s also a really cute place and with a casual vibe.

Authentic arepas - Edit
You could choose whatever ingredients you want or pick one of the menu items. There were only a couple of vegan menu items. Tasted good and the honey sweetened sodas were great! The arepas were large and difficult to eat.

I recently had to go gluten free bc I’m diagnosed celiac. WOW. My first ever arepa and it did not disappoint!! I highly recommend the roja dulce sauce if you like a kick. Incredible food I will be back again this trip!!

Unique! - Edit
Love finding some unique-to-me vegan food. The arepas was crisper/chewier than I expected, and really yummy. Avocado both on top and bottom of the pocket, stuffed in between with chickpeas, a tomato and a piece or two of cauliflower. Don’t try eating on a first date! Otherwise, you’ll love it. Appreciate the vegan options, and being totally gluten free! Decent size, but I needed a bit more to make it a full meal.

We live two hours away and would come to Portland just for these arepas.
Read moreThe bean and cheese is delicious and the yucca arepita are little pillowy delights. The dips are creative and outstanding and the interior is really well decorated and welcoming. Would love to try more of the menu next time we’re in town!
Pros: Easy online ordering/pick up, Great funky vibe, Outstanding food

Great food - Edit
While not everything was vegan everything could be made vegetarian and through their changing menu the day I went there were two vegan options for entrees and 1 for appetizers and several more of each could very easily be made vegan and they are now apparently working on having vegan desserts in there desert

Delicious Arepa - Edit
It was such a treat to even find an arepa in Portland, but even better to find such tasty ones at Maiz. They are located on the second floor of the public house, and there are several options for casual dining here. The arepa are filled with a variety of toppings... they have a vegan option with chickpeas and cauliflower or a vegetarian one filled with cheese. They also have a yummy vegan cilantro sauce. I didn’t try their coffee, but they appear to have a nice selection of espresso based drinks.

👌🏼 - Edit
Vegan option clearly labeled—arepa stuffed with cauliflower, chickpeas, tomatoes, onions and avocado. Super yummy! Have 3 sauces to choose from but only the cilantro sauce is vegan. (It’s a tasty sauce, I’ve really started to dislike cilantro for some reason lately but this sauce was tangy and not too cilantro-y!) You get a good size for the price and it’s really filling. Would highly recommend.
