Crappy Food - Edit

Ugh, why did I rely on everyone’s suggestions to eat here? I just came back from one of the worst Happy Cow recommended vegan restaurants. I was the only one in the restaurant. That should have been the first tip off. I ordered the vegetable stir-fry. It must have been canned vegetables. I asked the waitress for no garlic, no ginger, and no hot chili flakes. I got hot chili flakes, which made it a landmine eating it. I had to spit out most of it, just terrible. Waitress kept sneezing, so I now I am doomed to catch her cold. Dessert was some gelatin with some jackfruit in it. One bite, and I was done. Paid my $8, and went to the grocery store across the street for some fruit and nuts to eat. Skip this place.

Pros: No wait for a table, Actual paper towels, Cheap food, but inedible

Cons: Worst food ever, Sick waitress, edit by staff - see tos

ThydaSek 21 Feb 2018 - Dear Mary Bheine,

It seems that you did not appreciate our food and we are very sorry for that. I invite you to read all the others reviews that are very positive and notice that you are the only one who did not appreciate...
However, I am taking some time to answer to your review.

First of all, you were the only person in the restaurant as it was a bit early, 5h30pm. We know that in some countries, people eat early, but we usually have more people after 7pm.
Second, I don't know how you can say that we use canned vegetables, as everything we use is fresh from market : we buy our vegetables, herbs and spices EVERY morning. This assumption already show the bad faith regarding our restaurant.
Third, you asked for no garlic, no ginger and no chili, and you did not get all of that. We use red pepper bell as decoration in your plate and that's it. If it was anyways too hot for you, you could have asked our cook to cook again and it would have been served for free.
Fourth, the dessert we serve is a traditional Cambodian dessert. We don't use gelatin, but agar agar, and this is commonly used in Cambodian dessert. if you did not like it, fine.
Fifth, the waitress was not sick. It happened sometimes that we sneeze without being sick and without staying home.

Assuming that you would get food poisoning after eating in our restaurant is not fair at all as it gives only a bad idea of our restaurant, while we are a small social business that is trying to do our best to spread vegan food and yoga to the communities.
The kitchen is surrounded by glass so you can see what is happening inside, you could have checked if you cared so much about the cleanness of the restaurant. We keep our space clean and hygienic, and we have AC for the comfort of our customers.

We are really sorry if you did not like our food and hope you are not sick.

Anyways, thank you for coming and for the 2 dollars tips, it's must have been a gesture of charity I guess.

The whole team wish you a prompt recovery if you are sick.

Mahob Buos team

Empfehlenswert!

Such beautiful flavours and so exciting to taste prohok (traditional Cambodian dish usually made with fish) with tofu. The curry amok is also out of this world. Can't recommend this place enough.

feel good food - Edit

Cute and cozy with a beautiful cause. I had a hearty curry. The waitress shared in good english the life courses she takes through this program and the new life she has now, orphanage free, as a result of this program.

Pros: Cambodian food promoting local culture, many options for main dish, full course with soup, dark rice and dessert

DELICIEUX!!!! - Edit

cozy, value for money and great social cause - Edit

The food is great (from the soup to the simple dessert). We had the traditional Khmer tofu plate and the mushroom fritters and they were amazing. The waiter was so friendly and kind! They have outlets near the tables do the clients can charge their phones ;-)

Pros: Tasty food, price, Social cause (food and yoga for kids)

Cons: variety not so big (specially western food), no option to take only the main course , no dessert options

Cosy cafe with generous food - Edit

I ordered the mushroom fritters with tomato and onion and although the portion looked small, they brought me a soup which was delicious, a small salad AND an amazing drool worthy type of rice pudding all for $6! Fritters were delicious as well!

yummy food but not many options - Edit

They didn’t have a lot to choose from, but what we did order was delicious (I had fried tofu and my partner had the fritter plate). It’s $6 a meal and the meals come with a small soup and a dessert each - there are not a lot of drinks to choose from either

Quaint vegan restaurant - Edit

We did have trouble finding this restaurant. It’s actually on Taphul Street.
It’s newly opened and a limited menu. The food is really tasty, nice subtle flavours.
Good value, we ordered our meal and got soup to start (not expected and so delicious), the main and then a dessert (also not expected). Great value and lovely staff who are being trained and who really try to please.
We enjoyed a red vegan wine with our meal as well.
We highly recommend Mabon Buos. It’s not fine dining, but most enjoyable.
Well done. All the best

Pros: Inexpensive and wonderful flavours.

Cons: Google maps doesn’t seem to know about this restau

First Khmer 100% Vegan Restaurant in Siem Reap! - Edit

Vegetarian Food means Mahob Buos (monks' food) in Khmer language. This is an excellent, small restaurant in downtown Siem Reap that serves home cooked traditional Cambodian dishes, all vegan, mostly organic and served with great love. For a very reasonable price, you will get a delicious, soothing soup with shiitake mushrooms, a main course and a tapioca/coconut dessert. My favorite main dishes are the Tofu Amok (Cambodian national dish), the Bohokti and the Mushroom/Eggplant Fritters with Tofu Sauce. For drinks, you can taste young coconut and some typical Cambodian cold teas and coffee, or you can treat yourself to some excellent vegan wine. By eating here, you provide Cambodian youth from disadvantaged backgrounds with nutritious vegan meals. In collaboration with AZAHAR Foundation and Restaurants Without Borders, meals are provided in addition to an education in yoga, circus arts and dance.

Pros: Excellent Vegan Khmer Food, Home Cooked, Fresh, with Love, Great Value & Socially Responsible

Cons: Indoor location, When busy, service can be a bit slow

Little vegan gem in town - Edit

I love this little restaurant that is 100% vegan. The menu offers local food for an affordable price in a very nice atmosphere. The decoration is well done and colourful.
This restaurant is part of an NGO that helps kids to practice yoga and get good vegan food.

I totally recommend this restaurant when you come to Siem Reap. No need to be vegan, you'll love the taste !

Excellent local cuisine - Edit

Savory local dishes, loved the „Amok“, main dishes are served with a veggie soup, brown rice, small side salad and fruity dessert. We were very happy to have found this culinary oasis in the midst of crocodile and snake flesh. Very nice & attentive staff, would eat here again in a heartbeat! The only downside was that it was a bit hard to find.
