Mission-driven real homecooked food - Edit
Review below is pretty correct about how to get here. I wanna add that the entrance in the back is big and decent looking, so ignore any smaller doors that might be open. At the 15th fl metal gate, press “03”.
Read moreThis was really tasty authentic Chinese homecooking! MaGe ("Big Bro Ma" roughly) seems to be running it out of a moderately sized apartment. I was pleasantly surprised it's part of his effort to build a local community around issues such as humane sustainable local farming and food security. Veganism still needs to gain much more awareness in China, so I'm glad he's contributing to it the best he can.
It seems he still has room for improvement as well, since there was a dish today with salty duck egg. But he did readily point it out to me, and the other 7 dishes are vegan. I still wish them success and growth, and I'd wanna visit when I'm in Shanghai again!
Pros: Authentic well-seasoned home cooked Chinese food, Reasonable price, Mission-driven friendly staff
Cons: May still use some non-vegan ingredients

Vegan for Life - Edit
Probably the most authentic meal we had our whole stay in Shanghai. The first review crushed it on how to get there and the second review followed up nicely with that 03 gate code. We felt right at home as soon as entering and we constantly encouraged to keep getting more food, which I thoroughly enjoyed...and did. The food was superb quality and was 100% vegan. The duck egg thing from one of the posts wasnt even an option when we were there and it was definatiely all vegan and all delicious. Price was wayyy to cheap for all the food we got. Definitely enjoyed our time here :)

Shanghai Surprise - Edit
To find this place you'll see building No.58 where a Luckin Coffee is, go around the back of this building and into the first entrance, take the lift to the 15th floor, as you come out there's a metal gate to your right, this place is to the left through there and first door on the right, Ok so once you've navigated all this and entered what looks like someone's apartment kitchen, the owner will tell you it's 36 yuan for the buffet. While the food may not have the best presentation it's taste will put to rest any minor reservations you have. My assistant and I both took a cautious plate at first but then went back for more of everything. The owner explained he grows the rice on his farm, he speaks a little English and is extremely friendly. The dishes themselves were flavoured very delicately, all fresh, all delicious, the tofu, the aubergine dish, the dumplings and sesame sauce. For extra you can request a fresh fruit juice, there's also free tea. Arriving just before 12 we had the place to ourselves & had the weather been better we would have been enjoying a great view. More people arrived shortly after, a local couple of office workers & 3 laowai like us, one of whom I know, so we had a pleasant conversation over the food. This food deserves to be tasted, such a rare home cooked experience, well worth it.
