Read moreThe food was very nice and fresh and the drinks were really big. We had the veggies with coconut/peanut sauce and the veggies with caribbean sauce. I absolutely loved the peanut sauce.
Staff was also very friendly and made the caribbean experience complete.

Breadfruit gnocchis - Edit
I tried the breadfruit gnocchis based on the reviews and it was the best choice! They are very delicious with fresh turmeric and a generous portion. The restaurant and staff are very nice and the drinks with coconut are amazing!

Wir waren zweimal hier essen und waren super begeistert. Das Essen ist wirklich super lecker, extrem abwechslungsreich (hat auch immer ein Wochenmenu vegan mit immer anderen Speisen). Wir haben hier die beste Pasta seit langem gegessen. Auch das karibische Essen war mega lecker und konnte man optional noch mit Tofu verfeinern. Für uns war auch toll, dass die Bedienung sehr auf die Kinder einging und ihnen extra noch Spezielwünsche erfüllte. Auch von den Getränken können wir nur schwärmen, alles wird frisch zubereitet und sehr schön angerichtet. 100% empfehlenswert - ein Muss wer in Puerto Viejo vorbei kommt!!

Fell in love with the place! - Edit
For a non vegan place they have so many vegan options and everything is so tasty! Staff talks english and everyone is super nice. I had the pesto pasta that I had to come back for three times and a vegan burger which was also delicious! Wish they had a place in every part of Costa Rica.

The stuff is very friendly and they all speak English. There are many vegan options to choose from and a daily special menu with even more vegan options. They also had a vegan dessert which was Snickers cake and very tasty. The location is a bit small so I recommend to go there early in the evening or make a reservation first. I was there around 6:30 PM.

We’ve come twice already, as they have different vegan options and the food has good quality. The owners are warm and welcoming. I highly recommend it as there’s not many vegan restaurants and after a few days you’ve tried all of them.

We came here after relying on some of the good reviews but the food was very disappointing. We had the veggies with the Caribbean sauce but it tasted just like boiled veggies with broth, nothing Caribbean at all. The peanut coconut stir fry was over salted. Seemed like another place that doesn’t put any effort in making good food. Quite a bummer.

A good option if you are in town. My friend and I ordered their gnocchi and Asian curry which if I recall were their specials of the day. Both were flavourful and had a home-cooked feel. Definitely worth a try.

Fantastic food with a large vegan selection - Edit
This restaurant was a true gem. There were more vegan items than I have seen at any other restaurant in the area and totally reasonable prices. The Italian hostess was charming. I had the chickpea burger with salad and veggies. The presentation was a work of art just adding to the charm. I wish I had discovered this earlier in my trip as I'd go back as often as possible.

Amazing find in Puerto Viejo - Edit
After trying out a number of restaurants toting vegan options and being disappointed, Madre Tierra was the real deal. With maybe 60-70% of the menu actually vegan, and specials that were so delicious, this is a spot you could go to more than once because there is so much to try.

The description doesn't do enough honour. Best vegan food I've found in Puerto Viejo. Gnocchi made of breadfruit (a bit like jackfruit) and a vegan cheesecake that comes close to the taste of Snickers, but then vegan.

This restaurant was great. There were so many options for vegans and they were clearly marked. I had the house made veggie burger, which was tasty but fell apart. My husband had a curry vegetable dish with rice. He liked it a lot! Only downside was we sat upstairs and had to listen to the blender make frozen drinks over and over again. I would definitely eat here again.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner recently and loved everything about it- the nice atmosphere, view of the beach, friendly staff, beautifully prepared food and lots of vegan/vegetarians options (clearly marked!). We had the special breadfruit gnocchi and and a vegetable peanut coconut curry dish, both were excellent. Definitely recommend!

they have many (labeled) vegan options. the bruschetta was the best i had in a really long time. the curry was nice but not so flavourful. The spaghetti with pesto and coconut cream was really good but a little dry (like most pestos).

Nice reggae and reggae inspired tunes at perfect dinner volume. Bread Fruit Gniocci and Chickpea Burger were really good. Also have vegan curries dishes and some other items. Service was excellent, very friendly!!! Favorite place in Puerto Viejo!

Plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians. It's a little loud here with reggae music being blurted out by the bartender but the restaurant is a lively little hub. (Puerto Viejo is quite loud anyways)

The curries were okay a little bland but a welcomed change from Gallo Pinto.
Overall a little expensive perhaps but some good food and plenty of options.
Worth a visit.
