OK - Edit
If you are going here for the experience, by all means, enjoy as there are a couple of vegan options. However, if you are going for the food, I'd say give it a miss. I had the vegetable sandwich, which was listed as vegan and included pesto. I wanted to just double check that it was vegan, and the waiter came back saying there was egg yolk in it. I was worried about cheese, and have never heard of pesto with egg, but anyway, he said they would just leave it off. So I got a smooshed, toasted bun with one slice of portobello, one slice of eggplant, and one slice of pepper and some average fries. Nothing wrong with it, but meh, at best.

Vegan at the Copper Inn - Edit
A couple interesting vegan options at the Copper Inn restaurant. I had the chickpea sandwich which was good, although a little bland. The fries were super stale and not great. I am a fry obsessive and me no finishing is bad news! If they were fresh I think they would have been better. It was expensive but much less than the other options on the menu.

Delicious vegan options - Edit
We saw that the Copper Cafe had designated vegan items, only three, but both of the sandwiches were super delicious! The Mediterranean sandwich was one of the best things I've had in a while! Absolutely delicious! Portobello's, bell peppers, eggplant. It almost tasted like it had butter, was so delicious (still not sure it didn't lol). Was definitely on the oily/greasy side, but it was very decadent and rich. The buffalo chickpea sandwich was very tasty but needed maybe a little more buffalo flavoring/ sauce. It was very hummus forward but I thought it was very tasty. But overall seemed like a healthy option. We got fries and sweet potato fries as sides. Overall would recommend but hoping for some vegan dessert options at some point!
Read moreThe next morning we had breakfast there as well. Not a lot of options as this is really a bacon & eggs kind of place. But, we did order the gigantic fruit plate which was very expensive but very delicious and beautiful. Also got a side of hash browns and a cup of the cream of wheat with oat milk (they also have almond and soy milk options). Overall a very filling and delicious meal, but on the pricey side.

Not very vegan friendly. - Edit
Just attended a wedding here and was served the vegan “meal” and was served a plate of steamed veggies and dry quinoa. The copper cafe has very limited vegan options either. It would be nice to have some clearly labeled vegan options and maybe some vegan proteins or something. By and large I wouldn’t expect to eat anything good from here food wise.

Didn’t want to cater to vegans - Edit
We are currently staying at The Madonna Inn, we went to the Steakhouse aware that they didn’t have any vegan options but asked if there was anything on the menu they could veganise for us, they had a veggie pasta, avocado toast, truffle potatoes and a mushroom dish so I thought they could do something with those but they didn’t even want to try. They told us to try the Copper cafe. Is it really that hard in this day and age to offer something like a vegan burger on such a huge menu? Just one option?
Read moreI’d seen that the Copper cafe had a couple of vegan sandwiches and one vegan salad online so thought this would be ok. These weren’t actually marked vegan on the menu in the cafe. I asked what the pasta of the day was, was told it was mushroom ravioli, I asked if it was vegan and the waitress said yes. When it came out it was covered in cheese, I sent it back, it then came out pretty cold where they’d taken the cheese off. It then became evident that the ravioli was stuffed with cheese too.
The waitress was apologetic and I asked for it to be taken off the bill which they did. She did try to recommend some other options but I was fed up by that point.
In general it seems that they just don’t want to cater for vegans and that the staff need additional training on dietary requirements and likely allergies. A real shame as I was looking forward to coming here.
Pros: A few vegan options on the online menu at cafe , Kitsch vibe
Cons: Don’t want to cater to vegans , Little knowledge of dietary requirements

Accommodating - Edit
We stayed at the Madonna Inn for a few nights and decided to eat at the steakhouse (which does not have a vegan menu, unlike the copper cafe). The waitress was still very accommodating and made sure she helped us throw something together. We had the truffle potatoes (hold the cheese and aioli), the romesco avocado toast (no feta), and the farfalle pasta (no parmesan, swap alfredo for olive oil, add extra veggies). It was amazing!! The avocado toast was so fun and had roasted corn on top😄

Vegan options at Copper Cafe - Edit
We had family visiting the area who thought it would be fun to have a meal at the Madonna Inn. I assumed we wouldn't be able to find anything vegan there, but checked online and was thrilled to see the other review on here. Indeed, the Copper Cafe at the Madonna Inn has three items on a "New Vegan Menu" that they started offering recently. We got the Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich and I was surprised at how flavorful and interesting it was. Usually, I find sandwiches with eggplant, roasted peppers, and portabellos a bit bland, but this was really tasty. Still no vegan desserts, but they said the vegan offerings have been very popular, so maybe they will add some vegan baked goods too...

I love this place! - Edit
The Madonna Inn is a SLO landmark and super funky. I always try to stop in when I’m in the area. I was delighted to see their new vegan menu in the cafe. I had the Buffalo Chickpea Salad Sandwich. It was pretty good, although could be spicier. A nice light vegan lunch in a super cool location to eat.
