Yum

Really enjoyable, especially love the Pad Seew Pork (although the "pork" is like a meatball, and not as good as the pork slices they used to use at the Fitzroy location).
The only disappointment was the Namtok noodle soup which was BLAND.

Pros: Pad seew pork, Friendly service

Cons: Bland Namtok noodle soup

Delicious food

I have been to the other restaurant in Fitzroy many times, but this was my first time here. My friend ordered the Pad Thai and I had the stir fried cashew and tofu with rice. The Pad Thai was good by pretty small, and my dish was really tasty. We added extra chilli as they had no kick.
The staff member was very nice and the restaurant was cosy, but pretty small. There is no toilet.

Pros: Tasty food, Nice staff, Reasonably priced

Cons: Not spicy enough, Small Pad Thai serving , No toilet

Special K in the city

Although I’m a regular at the flagship Madame K’s I rarely make it to this one. The menu is pretty much the same, with a couple of special features like the garlic pepper pork and the lolly-sweet pink soy milk. And OMG! MKV-CBD (as I shall henceforth refer to it) is even cheaper than the Fitzroy version. They’ve painted the space white, covering up the previous Thailand-related cartoon imagery that was in the restaurant originally. It’s pretty close to Southern Cross station and the 86 and 96 trams, which is handy. I associate the place with the l*mb sliders, because I think I’ve had them almost every time (‘cos they’re so damn good). I hadn’t had the nasi goreng in a while, so I chose this and the garlic pepper pork, a MKV-CBD specialty, which I hadn’t had before. True to form the rice dish was delicious and savoury. The pork was also tasty and appetising. Miso eggplant is not quite my thing but it was good for what it was. It’s so good to know there is still one vegan restaurant in the city. Let’s do our part to keep it open.

Great new (but old) vegan lunch spot in town 4 ⭐️
It was great to see that Madame K was doing well enough to open a third restaurant in the city, even if it is only open for lunch. I was doing training in town over two days and took the opportunity to go there on both. The prices were lower than I expected and on the first day I ordered the Pad kapraw moo ($13.90) and on the second the tofu cashew nut stir fry ($13.90), both of which I’d had before at Williamstown and Fitzroy, expecting the meals to be smaller because they were cheaper. To my surprise they were a decent size and delicious with plenty of rice, but while pad kapraw Moo was pleasantly spicy, the sauce in the tofu dish was just a little sweet for my taste (in keeping with much Thai cuisine I’ve experienced). The restaurant was very quiet just after 1pm. I’m glad to have another quality vegan lunch spot in town.

Pros: An actual vegan restaurant , Delicious, super cheap food , Conveniently located

My workplace is moving near there and I’m devastated it isn’t open for lunch.

Yeah what a shame 😕 For years that was the only time I ever went, like if I had a work thing in the city.

I used to go when I worked in docklands too. It’s such great food.

The website hours, and the hours on Happycow are very different, for both outlets. The website shows day time hours only for the city, and weekend daytime hours, as well as the nights for Fitzroy. I have emailed them twice about it recently, I received 1 auto response, but no confirmation of hours.
Do you believe the hours on Happycow are correct @Tiggy?

Tiggy

@BreakfastKlutz - Yeah the website is hardly ever updated.

Assumed that to be the case, a pity about the lack of daytime hours though. Thank you.

Lovely little place

It's easy to like this place - affordable, flavourful, friendly service and TomYum soup.

I ordered the Japanese Spice Tofu, Tom Yum Soup (with tofu) & Papaya Salad. Yummy.

Will be back to try more ...

Pros: Lovely, fresh ingredients , Friendly service , Vegan TomYum soup!

Used to be open for lunch

Being CBD based they used to do lunch. Pity they don't any longer.

Pros: Vegan, Delicious

Cons: Closed for lunch , Small shop

Yeah that’s a shame. I went for lunch a few times when they first opened and it was good since they were in the CBD near a lot of workplaces.

Big menu, big flavour!

The duck curry with apple and lychees was a standout! I would not hesitate to order that again, and yet there is so much else to try here.

The menu is so big, expect to take some time selecting what you want. They have the usual options (stir fry, noodles) and some really interesting, unusual looking options as well.

I also tried the banana tempura which was delightful. So crispy and fresh (I saw them peeling the banana) with icecream and syrup, less batter-ly than a banana fritter.

Lovely service and good tea selection. Great location in the city. No toilets on site.

Delicious!

I had the chives cakes which were crispy outside & soft inside, delish sauce with them too. And also the Pad Seew Pork which was so good, tender meaty strips, umami flat noodles & crunchy veg. Service was fantastic too.

Affordable scrumptious all round 💦

Wide mix of reasonably priced mains with lots of mock meats and quick cooking times.

Very good options for entrees, desserts and drinks. In particular, the lamb sliders, pandanus cake, banana roti and nom yen drink made me feel some sort of way 🥹

Cost: 15-50 pp

Tasty and quick but smallish portions

Grabbed the lemongrass duck on my way by. Nice little restaurant with friendly owners. Food was classic Thai cuisine, but on the small side, portion wise l

Pretty solid

Had a small dish in the middle of one afternoon and it hit the spot nicely. It was tasty, but needed a little something extra. General decor and location a little flat, but keen to come back and sample more on the menu. Super friendly staff.

Second visit - pretty tasty, smallish serving size though. Staff still friendly and it’s hard to hate too much on a full vegan place. Would still eat here again.

Good food

I came in near closing and luckily was able to order. I ordered the panang curry with roti and rice. Curry was flavorful. I prefer Thai style curry. Staff was great as well and helpful with helping me decide to order. #Veganuary

ALL VEGAN MENU! I was spoilt for choice! We had the roti with satay sauce, curry puffs, fried tofu with Japanese dressing and lemongrass duck stir fry and it was all super tasty! The satay sauce is to die for. We will be going back for dessert!

Affordable & authentic

Simple little restaurant with a wide menu of mostly Thai dishes. My partner and I had the laksa and Som Tum Gai Yang (papaya salad with chick’n and sticky rice). Both meals were absolutely delicious and great value. Definitely recommend!

Classic canteen Thai

Flavourful food with plenty of vegan options at a decent price. While the venue is basic, the food is tasty and with a broad range of options to suit your cravings. The mock chicken satay was particularly good.

Simple but flavorful

Here is a small, self-service restaurant offering veganized Thai food. The menu still mentions vegetarian in some places, which is confusing, but supposedly everything is vegan.

I only had one dish here and enjoyed it very much. The Laksa soup was colorful, spicy, tangy and creamy. If I had had more time, I would have come back to try more dishes.

Prices are also very affordable.

It is a small and simple restaurant, no location for fancy dining.

Pros: taste good, fair prices

Cute little vegan restaurant in the heart of the CBD

The food was absolutely divine, full of flavour and very morish. Was disappointed to see that some people were provided table service to order, but my table and some others weren’t. Having said that, the staff were still super friendly and helpful. My non-vegan Aunt even remarked at how delicious the food was and that had she not known everything was vegan, she wouldn’t have known otherwise just from eating it.

Pros: Everything on the menu was vegan, Full-flavoured Thai dishes, Even a non-vegan loved the food

Cons: The restaurant was small and cramped, Table service provided to some, but not others, The menu stated vegetarian on some dishes

Excellent plant based food restaurant

This was an excellent plant based culinary experience. We had the pancakes and skewed satay chicken for starters, and the BBQ Duck, Massaman, and the Pad Thai for mains, with roti. All tasted lovely. Very good service too. And the pricing was very reasonable.

Pros: Variety, Pricing

Marvelous Madam K!

So very pleased the CBD location is now open evenings!
Nothing fancy about the setting but the food is delicious and reasonably priced. The serving sizes are what I call ‘lunch time’ and sized with the solo diner in mind. Remember this when ordering. A great addition to the Southern Cross end of the city!

Pros: All Vegan, The BEST mock meat, Great prices

Cons: Decor could be better
