First of all, one person in our group has a severe milk proteïne allergy. She now has a rash and breathing problems. One ( hopefully very improbable) reason for this might be the food itself, the other reason might be that the hygiene is not great. The ice cubes for the iced latte were taken with bare hands, the menu card was dirty, the dishes are done by hand, and very quickly.
Read moreWe had pie and a caramel bar with nuts, plus (iced) coffee. The caramel bar was good. The pie, on the other hand, was super heavy. Conclusion: The food was not great, one person with cows milk allergy got sick, and the place lacked in hygiene, so we would like to rate this one with only one star.

Since we are usually not too eager on the sweet side of food and especially not at morning, visiting a place like Madam Bakster is rather unusual for us.
Read moreThis cafe though felt perfectly right and I didnt hold back one minute on ordering pancakes topped with acorn sirup and whipped cream. Surprisingly it did not turn out too sweet and I enjoyed every single bite. The 2nd piece of cake afterwards was finally enough but until then it was smooth sailing all along 😂
The cherry on top of the whipped cream was the cozy ambiente and super friendly service.

We were hungry, so we chose the chia pudding, the ‘egg’ salad toast, the oat pancakes and the scones. A bit much for two people, but we were greedy 🫣. It was all delicious and flavours were spot on! We will definitely be back!

I stumbled upon their website while we were in Ghent for a holiday and had to go to Madam Bakster for their healthy sweets. I had the lemon avocado cake and it was so delicious and refreshing. Definitely recommend

Great sweets/desserts and heart warming drinks. They also have refreshing drinks, including vegan milkshakes but didn't have the chance to try them out.

We loved this place - please visit if you can. Lots of vegan and gluten free options. There was only one ‘cake’ my coeliac daughter couldn’t have (it’s usually the opposite, if that!).
Read moreThey had brunch items such as pancakes, hummus and avocado on toast, vegan ‘egg’ on toast, chia pudding etc. we sampled a few different cakes: passion fruit/chocolate tart, lemon/avocado tart and the vanilla cheesecake. All were superb. When we are next in Ghent we will be back!
The pancakes could be gluten free, as well as the toast. Chia and rice pudding options too.

We go here every time we visit Ghent, and we were never disappointed. Only downside to this place is the limited seating, but usually there's some place left on the benches next to the window.
