This is such a lovely place just a few minutes from the Parliament building. They have a daily soup and two pastas as well as a full regular menu. Perfect for refuelling in the middle of the day.

Absolutely delicious - Edit
We couldn't believe that this mainstream looking cafe was all vegan, unlike a lot of vegan cafes which are - to be honest - rather hippie looking. And I love hippie looking, as I consider myself a hippie.
Read moreThe cream of broccoli soup with some seeds was delicious and comforting. And we had the gyros which were fresh and delicious. For dessert, my husband had a raw chocolate treat that he really enjoyed and my chocolate babka was wonderful. Love this place!!!
Pros: Delicious food, great prices, Great service, very friendly staff, AMAZING desserts
Cons: Lack of alcohol

NOT VEGAN - Edit
Very nice place, has great coffee and tea. Most pastries are vegan, BUT NOT ALL as stated in the description, they are well labeled though. They also have pasta.
Read moreThey sell cows milk, so if you want a plant-based option make sure you ask for it.

Menu that changes daily with limited pasta options - Edit
Nice cafe vibes that is perfect for lunch and a coffee. Based on past reviews, I was most excited to try the vegan pasta, but was surprised to learn the menu changes daily and that there were only 2-3 vegan pasta options (e.g., one with pomodoro sauce and another with a wasabi-based sauce) available that day. In addition to pastas, there are other vegetarian/vegan-friendly dishes offered (e.g., burgers, gyros). While the pomodoro pasta was lackluster and under-seasoned, the falafel gyro was delicious! I also ordered a vanilla chai from the coffee station, which was a bit unusual but very good.

Cozy café close to the Parliament - Edit
I went to work for a couple of hours in Madal Food. They have some vegan options that their helpful staff is happy to show you. I ate a faux gras croissant which was delicious. The café has a lovely interior, but when I was there, a very loud construction was just underway.

Bad and overpriced coffee - Edit
Their iced latte with plant based milk costs 1,450 Forint and doesn’t taste of coffee at all. Super watered down, and the coffee wasn’t even made freshly. I’d rate it 1 star if Happy Cow let me

Madal Food AND Madal Cafe here - Edit
This particular location is both a Madal Food AND a Madal Cafe. It’s an open plan place but with two sides to it and people seem to be able to sit where they like.
Read moreIt seems the Madal Cafe is vegetarian with vegan options, with various sandwiches and cakes. We had three-cheese croissants (definitely real cheese), which were nice. Nothing special but fresh. The cakes are all vegan.
There are a range of artisan breads available so it doubles as a bakery, and it seems like a popular coffee stop. Soft drinks also available. There are apparently three Madal Cafes in Budapest.
Madal Food is plant-based (vegan) only.
We were confused as it’s not obvious it’s two places, but we came around 11am and the restaurant side wasn’t yet open. As I type I can see a woman preparing fresh dough and I’ve taken a photo to show the 100% plant based menus.
It’s a nice place with lots of seating inside and tables outside too. £11 for the two filled croissants, an Americano and a Fentiman’s Curiosity Cola.

Good taste, comfort food, not enough fresh options - Edit
if you look for something lightweight and healthy, this is a pass. Their warm dishes are quite heavy with a lot of fake meats and fake cheeses. They also have a large selection of cakes and sweets as well as ice cream. There are a lot of tasty vegan options. Most of the things are vegan. There is a free tap water fountain in the back near the bathrooms.
