Impressive cafe - Edit

This cafe is very welcoming and has a great range of both savoury and sweet dishes to choose from as well as all kinds of teas/coffees/juices and smoothies. A real asset for any veggies/vegans in the area.

Had an amazing time here. All of the staff are very friendly, the food was exceptionally delicious and filling, and the coffee wasn't half bad either! I'm thrilled to have found this place and will absolutely be returning, even when I just want a coffee.

Pros: awesome as heck

Cons: -1 con, this place rocks

Home - style cooking in a relaxed setting - Edit

This is a laid - back café - restaurant, which, with free wi-fi and the option of a tab, encourages you to linger.

You make your choice from the plentiful selection of food and drink chalked on the blackboard. Then take a seat and your order is brought to you when it's ready. Everything is vegan so you are spoilt for choice; there looked to be plenty of options for those needing gluten-free too.

I chose the three bean chilli with rice. This came in a bowl, with sliced avocado and ?soya cream on the top. It was simple but delicious with a good balance of seasoning. However, I am vegetarian rather than vegan and missed having cheese sprinkled in the top. The quantities were perfect so no waste. The wholegrain rice (a plus - point for me) was perfectly cooked. I opted for tap water and there are jugs and glasses readily available.

To finish, I ordered a peppermint tea (tisane). This was made with loose leaf tea suspended in the water in a strainer, with a ceramic lid on top to be left while it brewed. This was a nice touch although I didn't feel it tasted any better than a standard mint tea made with a tea bag.

I felt quite comfortable eating here alone. The staff were laid back and welcoming and there seemed to be people there just hanging out, reading a book or whatever as well as those having a meal with friends. I thought it was good value too.

Pros: Plenty choice; laid - back atmosphere; tasty food

the penultimate vegan cafe - Edit

I have toured a couple vegan cafes and always found something lacking. but I can gladly say I have not at the mad cucumber. they offer a variety of styles of food ranging from incredibly generous and satisfying salad sides and well curated vegetable dishes to classic substitute favourites like their black bean enchiladas which even my meaty friends have come and enjoyed. and their variety and strengths don't stop with the mains as their cake counter is filled with a wide variety of raw cheesecakes, tray bakes, cookies, and a cake for every taste. with constant one offs and daily specials in both mains and puddings there always seems to be something new to try.

the drinks reflect their values with food too - anything from some delicious local sourced kombucha to a hot chocolate with all the toppings!

personal favourites: their cucumber coolers are a god send in the summer. the peanut butter bars always satisfy my craving for sweet and chocolatey. and the bean patties with the huge salad fit the healthy, filling, and flavoursome tick boxes I'm usually looking for in a lunch.

once upon a time they not only offered all of these amazing foods and drinks but had breakfasts! including crepes and scrambled tofu which were again both amazing in completely separate ways.

my hope is that one day they are able to bring this back as they stopped doing breakfasts when their opening times changed (opening before 12 every day is a bit of a big ask as it is currently run by some wonderful volunteers who very much deserve some time off!)

all in all I have found multiple favourites for summer and winter meals/drinks/cakes in this cafe - it is yet to disappoint! and to top it off the cafe itself is relaxed and friendly, with its own unique style and vibe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pros: the foods/cakes/drinks are varied and delicious, the cafe itself is wonderfully decorated and incre, you can even get cake or drinks to go!

Amazing vegan cafe! - Edit

The Mad Cucumber is such an amazing vegan cafe, from its cool decor, to its delicious food! There was a great range of drinks to choose from (teas, smoothies, milkshakes...), as well as hot food and cakes! I had the burrito which came with a side of rice and salad, and it was so yummy and filling. My boyfriend had the chickpea curry, which was also great. We both had a melon, pear and lemon smoothie, and then we also had some carrot cake, and lemon & poppyseed cake to finish! The staff were also friendly and helpful, and the cafe itself is very close to bournemouth's main shopping area, giving it a good location. Would definitely recommend giving this place a visit, I know I'll be going back when I can!

Our favourite restaurant - Edit

We have been eating at the Mad Cucamber regularly for the past year. We have never been let down: the price is good; the food is always excellent and the service is very friendly. We love the place as it always has a wide selection of cakes including sugar and gluten free, so we often pop in for a take away service if we can't stop or the cafe is full. I do advice to book as the place is quite small and can get really busy.
I recommend vegetable curry, carrot cake and brownies! Enjoy!

Pros: Lots of vegan cakes!, Good Price, all menu is yummy

Cons: busy so book!

Amazing vibe! - Edit

I was having a really bad day and check on Happy Cow what was closest to me and was delighted to find the Mad Cucumber. I had the patties with rice and salad. It came in a large serving, delicious.
They have a nice selection of vegan chocolate, cookies, cakes, teas, smoothies and about -5-6 main courses. All vegan.
The vibe is lovely, artistic, warm and cozy with comfortable sofas and good internet.
Thoroughly recommend this.

Pros: Good Value, Great Vibe, Delicious food

Popped in here during my trip to Bournemouth and loved it! The atmosphere was great and the staff really friendly and helpful.
The menu was huge and I wish I had a chance to try more! But the smoothie, pecan cookie and peanut butter slice I had were all delicious and I highly recommend them!
Seriously considering making another trip to Bournemouth just to come back here!

Ate here on my travels through Bournemouth and its definitely the best Vegan restaurant I've been to so far. The food selection was great, the portion sizes were spot on, and the price was fantastic. Oh and the cakes were to die for!! The staff are so friendly and the dishes are presented really well.

Pros: Delicious Food, Good Value for Money, Welcoming Staff

Cons: I wish they were closer to my home

It’s yummy veggie - Edit

My friend and I went to Mad Cucumber on this weekend. The food was exquisite! So flavorful – I have heard great things about it and seen some decent photographs on Instagram and Facebook. Regardless of the possibility that you're not vegetarian or vegan it’s a pleasant change and the food is so wonderful you won't be missing your meat! You will definitely enjoy your visit. It was quality healthy food, good atmosphere, pleasant staff will return and the costs are incredible as well. Without a doubt visit!

Pros: Quality food, Nice ambiance, nice staff

Cons: a lil bit late service, nothing, noithing

Delicious vegan cake! - Edit

I highly recommend the Mad Cucumber. I only wish it had been around when I started uni and that I had discovered it sooner! They made me an absolutely delicious chocolate layered vegan cake for my birthday (very last minute of me, I asked the day before and they were still able to make it for me). SO good... all my non-vegan friends and family that tried it loved it, too.

wished I lived in Bournemouth - Edit

Lucky residents of Bournemouth having the Mad Cucumber. Went there in mid December 2014 with my parents (who live there and go often). It was packed out. I had a fudge brownie which was lovely and rich and a big pot of tea. Lovely atmosphere too and very friendly staff. Tried to go there a couple days later but they have a massive closure period for xmas and new year unfortunately.

Pros: Big pot of tea, Friendly staff, Welcoming atmosphere

Cons: long holiday closure period

I've just moved to Bournemouth and was so happy to find a vegan restaurant in town! It was my first visit and had the enchiladas and garlic bread. Yum! I will definitely be going back as the food was amazing and the staff were so friendly! Good vibes all around!

Lovely cafe, food and staff - Edit

I loved everything about this place. Great atmosphere and friendly people. The food was great too. The mushroom stroganoff with brown rice is perfect, as was the sundried tomato and pesto pasta and the garlic bread with cheese. The dessert counter is particularly impressive, I had to try three. Will definitely be going back.

Pros: Variety, Friendly, Good food

Amazing! - Edit

My girlfriend and I tried out this cafe while on holiday in England. We ordered the pasta and the curry, both of which were very hearty and filling. Personally I preferred the curry, it was delicious! We also had a wonderful, quite sizable vegan hot chocolate and a smoothie which was thick and delicious. The food was fresh, very filling, and very tasty. We also tried six of their vegan dessert options (3 for a pound) and were very happy with all of them. The carrot cake was our favourite, but they were all wonderful. Very polite servers and a wonderful, homey space. We will be back before we leave!

Bounemouth's No1 Vegan Place - Edit

The Mad Cucumber really puts Bournemouth on the UK Map of Vegan Restaurants. They recently hosted Bournemouth's Veggie and Vegan Society and we were all delighted with the food, drinks and service. Freshly cooked food is especially appreciated. These people care about what they offer us to eat. It's a big building and needs plenty of patronage in order to grow and survive. So check it out and do yourself a favour, you'll love the food! Note find Mad C on Bournemouth Gum Tree Misc.

new , deserves support - Edit

The Mad Cucumber (vegan lounge) is a new addition to the recently revamped Triangle area of Bournemouth. It is also, as far as i know , the first all vegan cafe in the area. The cafe is modern and yet homely with tables and sofas to suit. The food is fresh and very well prepared/cooked. The raw chocolate cake containing raspberries was VERY nice!

Pros: clean and comfortable, fresh high quality food, friendly owners

Cons: location is about far from town centre

Don't miss it...! - Edit

We found this place when on holiday n the area. We liked it so much we went back the next day.

Relaxed vegan cafe run by very lovely and interesting people.

Strawberry crepe with chocolate sauce and a scoop of vegan ice cream is highly recommended.

Pros: All vegan

Cons: It's nowhere near where I live...

Great to have a vegan restaurant in Bournemouth. - Edit

Mad Cucumber is a light, airy restaurant with comfortable seats and sofas, serving fresh vegan food.

From the limited main course menu I had a vegetable curry, which was to my taste but my companion felt lacked spice. The choice of desserts included an apple crumble and a variety of cakes, which were scrumptious. There is a great choice of imaginative smoothies. Price for the two course plus smoothie was just under £12 a head.

The relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes for an enjoyable experience. Mad cucumber will be a must on my visits to Bournemouth.

Pros: Pleasant and welcoming space., Friendly service., Great smoothies and desserts.

Cons: Limited main course choice.
