Creative. Best vegan food we tasted in Porto. - Edit
We had an amazing, full of character tomato/cauliflower dish as a starter. The gratin was also great, with the wine-based stew and interesting nutty crunchy salad. The service was excellent - very kind and knowledgeable, the food was served very smoothly and the chef even came over to greet us at the table and asked for our feedback. We loved the experience and will definitely be back!

Speciesism at a vegan restaurant - Edit
They don't allow to get in with your non human family "because they have hair", despite the law allows them to let them in. This is speciesism in a vegan restaurant and it's so sad.
Read moreMoreover they post pics with dogs so it's really confusing! I hope they regret about this and change policies.

Treats customers with contempt - Edit
We were excited to try Lupin, however the treatment we received there really left a sour taste in our mouth. Upon arriving, the restaurant had over half of its tables empty, however the staff told us that they would not be able to seat us because they had a party coming in 30 minutes and did not have the bandwidth to serve two additional people- despite having half the tables be empty. They said we would have to wait about 45 minutes to be able to order. I asked if we could just sit down at one of the empty tables and have some water to drink since we were tired from a long day of traveling. They denied this request and forced us to stand up at the counter for 45 minutes. We finally gave up, not wanting to give our money to a place that treats customers with such contempt and disrespect. If they lack the bandwidth to prepare food for a half-empty restaurant, something is wrong. They should hire more staff or work harder, and respect customers who make the effort to come to their remote location rather than seeing customers as a nuisance. These people have no business being in the customer service industry. For some reason Happycow forces me to give at least 2 stars to a fully vegan restaurant, but this one deserves 0 stars.

Good restaurant - Edit
The restaurant was pretty good all in all. They offer some Portuguese style dishes which I appreciated. However, at the beginning they offer you bread and olives - the waitress brought them to our table and asked if we’d like; however there was an additional fee that was not made clear. Not a big deal, but little things like that can leave a bad taste in your mouth when you are already paying slightly above average prices.

Thank you for the review. From what I have read, the appetizer issue is customary in Portugal. In fact there is an "appetizers warning" in my Rick Steves' book. He writes a paragraph about them not being free. Other than that, it sounds like you enjoyed the food.

There's a law that forbids the restaurant owners from charging extra fee if they offer you something without mentioning the price or without the customer asking.

Gourmet Vegan Bliss - Edit
I went there in April 2018 to try their vegan version of the famous Porto Francesinha sandwich. It was delicious and exceeded my expectations.
Read moreI also had my first Italian tiramisu since becoming a vegan almost 20 years ago. Wow was it delicious and exactly as I remember the non-vegan version. So light and fluffy.
I took a vegan pastel de nata with me that was as tasty in its own way as the one from DaTerra.
The staff were super friendly and gentle. I was so blown away with the food, service and fine dining experience that I made a point to thank everyone including the chefs in the kitchen. I floated out of the building in a most satisfied way!
The location is very nice in a university area with other cool things nearby including a gourmet food court in a big modern shopping mall. The look of the Lupin building is unassuming, located on a mostly residential street. It snuck up on me as it’s not a typical restaurant facade. The sliding doors to enter have an almost-Japanese appeal. Very inviting place.
I will definitely return!
Pros: Vegan gourmet bliss! Delicious!, Friendly staff & great dining atmosphere., Reasonable to borderline pricey but so worth it.
Cons: None!

Not Worth It - Edit
Before going to Lupin, we read the reviews and were well aware it was going to be more on the expensive side, but that was OK because it was a special occasion. However, I did regret going here. When you pay more, you expect not just the food to be good, but also a certain environment, you expect the restaurant in itself to be well put together or even classy. I'm sorry, but this restaurant looks trashy. It has banners on the outside, and the inside just looks like Mcdonalds. I was looking straight at the kitchen because there is a huge opening from the dinning area to the kitchen. The "menus" were plain sheets of paper. There was literally no separation on the menu from entrys to appetisers to main dishes, so that was fun.
Read moreThe food was good, though. Here's what we had:
MAIN DISHES: the Gratin - absolutely delicious, recomend !!
the Bufon (?) - well named. is just a plain cold salad, trying to pass as a main dish. Are we in the summer ? Who wants to eat a cold dish for dinner ? Plus, not filling at all, if me and my bf hadn't switched plates, one of us would have starved.
BEVERAGES - the Red Fruits Sangria - I always love Sangria, but I wasn't impressed by this one. I could taste the cheap juice. Also, who serves sangria in a water cup? There was no straw, so it was uncomfortable to try to drink it without chocking on all the little fruits. Plastic is the devil, but are there not metal straws? Get your act together.
DESERT - the Pastel de Nata. Was it the first time I had found pastel de nata since become vegan ? Yes. Was it amazing ? Yes. Did it taste kinda like it was frozen and the heated up ? Also yes.
I do not recommend Lupin because you can find here in Porto, the same quality at much cheaper prices (DaTerra), or better classier environments (Em Carne Viva).

The best vegan cuisine of Porto - Edit
Lupin restaurant offers a fine vegan cuisine, with original flavors. We had dinner here and really enjoyed the experience. I had an onion soup, a risotto, a francesinha and vegan cream cheese with beetroot. Everything was delicious even if portions were not huge. For dessert, I had the pasteis de nata, that was the best vegan one I ever had. Don't go elsewhere if you wanna try this local pastry. Prices are fair, the staff is friendly but the restaurant is not centrally located, so you may walk to go there. It worth the try though.

Makes Me Wish I Lived in Porto! - Edit
This is a place you could go back to over and over. Everything is very well made, lots of thought put into the dishes and pretty good prices, too.
Read moreIt's a little surprising to find it where it is, it's kind of in an apartment area. Once inside, it's a nicely decorated restaurant, quite fancy.
I tried the appetizer focaccia with olive paste and olive oil. It was delicious and quite filling for one person. Everything on the menu looks amazing but, having seen Francesinha all around town (a typical Porto meal), I had to try their vegan version, with chips. It was very good and an interesting dish-- great for tourists to try.
Lastly, I had their Pastel de Nata. This was easily the most delicious food I ate on the entire trip. I've had the non-vegan version in Belem, several years ago, and this was even better. No matter where you're staying in town, it's worth tracking down this restaurant just for the pastel! Comes with toasted nuts, cinnamon, etc.
Also, the cook and waitress were extremely nice and good to talk to.
Pros: Great Food, Staff, Value

Super dessert - Edit
Nous avons testé pour la première fois le Francesinha que nous avons trouvé plutôt simple, est-ce dû au plat de base ou à sa façon d'être cuisiné? Le dessert en revanche, le pasteís de nata était grandiose et le service au top.
