Reliable Loving Hut - Edit
Atmosphere:
This was smaller than the other Loving Hut in Medan and a little less white and bright, but still very clean and shiny. Some nice Chinese decorations. Staff were very friendly and there were some English skills (it was easy to get our point across anyway). Menu was fully illustrated with some names in English. The menu here was very similar to the other Loving Hut. There were videos of the Supreme Master as usual, in this instance, she was cooking and sharing her recipes (there was no sound).
Food:
We ordered the Nasi Soto Medan and the Monday Special (Nasi Penyet). Both of these dishes were vegan adaptions of traditional Indonesian food – they came with the typical bowl-shaped rice in the middle of the dish with various accompaniments. The Nasi Soto Medan included a mild curried soup with bean sprouts, tofu, celery and vegan chicken. On the plate with the rice were some crisps, a very hot green chili chutney, roasted garlic and spiced potato cakes. The Monday Special included a mild hot and sour broth with mushrooms, sweet corn and chilis. On the plate with the rice were steamed green beans, tempeh, tofu, fake chicken, roast eggplant, slices of fresh cucumber and a hot red chili chutney. Overall, we found these dishes slightly bland – this could be because the chutneys were too hot for us and presumably that would have been the major source of flavour. We also ordered a Pink Lady drink, which was warm and slightly sweet soya milk topped with blended fresh strawberries with no sweetener. This was the highlight of the meal – delicious (enak sekali)!
Cost: Including two small bottles of water, this cost 110,227r.
Portion size: These two main dishes were more than enough – it would be possible for two smaller people to share one dish.
Pros: Great range , Clean , Tasty
Cons: Not the cheapest , Some dishes bland if you don't like hot food
