Greatest seitan

What a great place. The chef was amazing, popped out to check how we wanted the food prepared.
You have 1 month to taste this place as they close for good at Xmas.

Pros: Menu, Service

Cons: Closing in a month

lovely people

Have now been to lotus on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed.
It’s improved over the four and half years it’s been open and in ever tire of eating here.

Very welcoming!

We had the spring rolls, mapo tofu and sweet chili vegan chicken. Everything was delicious and the staff was very nice, coming out of the kitchen to ask how spicy we wanted each dish!

Delicious food and such friendly owners!

We ate there on a Sunday night and the food was delicious! We had deep fried tofu to start, which came with a soya sauce dip and the tofu tasted like homemade tofu, yum! We then had seitan in black pepper sauce (made extra spicy on request) and the seitan is the best we've ever had! I would describe it as tender and succulent, with a rich peppery sauce, wonderful! We also had salt and pepper trumpet mushrooms and although slightly on the salty side (it is in the description after all!), they were lovely. We had chow mein and fried rice and took leftovers away as portion sizes were very generous.

The family running the place were all absolutely lovely, so friendly and nice. We will definitely eat there again when visiting Glasgow and the place was only a 5 minute walk from our Premier Inn :)

Pros: Delicious food, Friendly owners, Nice atmosphere

Really special

The food was just fantastic. The Black Pepper Seitan was particularly amazing! It's a little pricy compared to some places but it's definitely worth it. Such a good menu too! Tofu, fake beef, fake pork, seitan etc etc

Cons: Satay could be a bit more peanutty

Black pepper seitan

My husband treated me to a meal here and it was absolutely wonderful. The food was so full of flavour and we loved it so much we ordered another main dish after finishing our other two! I particularly recommend the black pepper seitan and fried rice.

Best seitan ever!

We went on the first day of reopening after their refurbishment. The staff was super helpful and friendly, happy to explain every part of the menu we had questions about.
We chose their homemade seitan and it was absolutely lovely. Great texture and a super taste as well. Would definitely come back here.

Pros: Super seitan, Friendly staff , Great taste - also to take-away

Cons: The portions felt a little small

Disappointing bland food

Is this place under new management or have they recently changed chef? Having read all these positive reviews I went to Lotus expecting amazing food, what I got instead was bland and unexciting. The black bean sauce aubergines, the sauce was thin and not tasty, the aubergines were lacking flavour. The fried rice was just rice fried in soya sauce, the udon noodles had no sauce, they were just boiled noodles mixed with steamed veg. The szechuan sauce for the seitan was watery, tasted like ketchup, and it wasn't spicy at all. The spring rolls looked like they were shop bought, but at least they were tasty. The staff were nice and friendly but food was a big disappointment. Is this place under a new management or have they changed chef? Unfortunately, given my experience, I would not recommend this place.

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Bland food, A bit pricey

Excellent Vegan Cuisine

All vegan Chinese restaurant that offers a variety of traditional Chinese dishes. All the meat substitutes (chicken, beef, pork) are truly delicious. Definitely worth the few minutes walk from downtown Glasgow!

Pros: Great choice, Cheap, Excellent meat substitute

Cons: Not a lot of veggies

The best place on Earth

Phenomenal. The best vegan food I have ever had 🥰 I regularly got takeaways from Lotus when I was living in Glasgow and they never ever let me down. The salt and pepper chicken balls were my absolute favourite, and the vegan beef in satay or black bean. I miss this place so much now I have finished uni and back living at home, but next time I'm in Glasgow it will be first in my list! Lovely friendly service too, great portion size and fresh ingredients! 💖 100000/10

Enjoyable meal

We have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for some time. When we arrived (18:30) we were the only ones in but it soon filled up. There appeared to be plenty of staff and our meal arrived quickly. We had vegan spring rolls (4) to start, complementary vegan prawn crackers. For mains we chose sweet and sour tofu, black bean tofu, boiled rice, fried rice and salt and pepper chips. The mains weee very tofu heavy, not a lot of sauce with the sweet and sour and little vegetables.

Pros: No stress everything is vegan , Friendly staff , Variety of food

Cons: Quality of food could be better , Little sauce/vegetables with main meals , Pricier than other places

Best Chinese I've ever had!

So glad we made the effort to go here for dinner whilst on holiday in Glasgow. The food was amazing, I had the homemade seitan satay and it was the most realistic "meat" I think I've ever had. But everything we had was delicious and the staff were so incredibly nice and friendly. We had our 9mo baby with us and she made best friends with all the staff there 😅

Pros: All vegan!, Lovely family run business

True chinese food

This is the place I always go back in Glasgow. The food is delicious, and the staff is the nicest. They are always willing to help or have a chat about the food they serve. They serve all types of mocked meat which are extremely tasty. Also, the lunch menu is quite cheap.

My dream!

I normally live in London and we don’t have ANY vegan chinese takeaways it makes me so upset every day so I was really excited to try lotus. The sweet and sour chicken, stirfried broccoli and prawn toast were AMAZING. The crackers, chicken noodle soup and miso soup were okay - they were a bit tasteless but honestly it might have just been that I burnt my tongue on it because they somehow wrap it so it stays SO hot. The staff were really sweet and the prices are great!!

Pros: Amazing prices , Stays super hot on take out, Really realistic fake meats

Cons: Some items a bit tasteless, There isnt one in London😒

Good selection, mixed quality

There was a great selection of vegan options but they were of mixed quality. The tofu in black bean sauce was lovely but portion size was mediocre. The salt and chilli tofu was practically inedible due to the amount of salt on it. Only one waitress, who was run off her feet. They need more staff and to taste their food before its sent out

Pros: Good vegan options, lovely staff

Cons: expensive, too much salt, small portions

Overrated!

Don't come here if you're from an Asian country/background because it is just food for westerners who don't know any better.
I ordered Prawn toast, Lemon Chicken, salt n Pepper chips and it was all just bland and not nice. So weird that all Glaswegians love it so much!!

Pros: Lots of vegan options.

Cons: Bland!!!

Lots of fake meat and tofu... And tasteless

Unfortunately I expect lots of veggie options in a vegan restaurant, and there are in chinese kitchen. But most of the menu consists of tofu or fake meat (pork, beef, duck or chicken). There is not a lot of variety because it has only about 3 or 4 different sauces with one of the fake meat or tofu options.
Oh, and the minimum charge per person is 11 pounds.

Pros: The service was very attentive

Cons: Not lots of veggies, minimum 11 pounds per perso, Tasteless, especially the soups
