Great find tucked away in the lanes

Found this place years ago with friends and so happy it’s still going strong. Recommended by a local girl. Tucked away behind the beach along a maze of little lanes. Took my mum along this time and she loved it 💚 great choice of vegan options and some that can be made vegan. Great choice of teas and also freshly made fruit juices and smoothies. Very friendly chilled atmosphere we’re we watched them preparing some of the food, also the wildlife and birds outside by the large pond. Real Indian food 🙏💚

Pros: Great choice of tasty food and teas, Super friendly smiley staff, Chilled out atmosphere with wildlife to watch

Cons: None!

Been coming for a few years and never had problem with vegan food

Bit baffled by previous review as they have always had menus in English. Love sitting by pond watching water snakes, fish and different birds. Like the food here and they always make it very very spicy just they way I ask for it.

Pros: Vegan choices and will veganise also, Friendly staff, Pond

Cons: None from me

Menu in local language

The menu was hard to understand because it’s in local language and the staff didn’t explain much. So we ordered a zucchini coconut curry without knowing exactly what it is and it was quite disappointing. Very different from the curries I had in other places. The rice is separate and very pricy for just plain rice.
Apart from that it’s one of the better places in Kovalam. The food is delicious. And it’s located beside a beautiful pond and somehow there aren’t mosquitoes. We went a couple of times.

Pros: Traditional food., Nice place beside pond., Large menu.

Cons: Pricy., Menu hard to understand.

Fine vegetarian restaurant

I went to Kovalam quite some times now and have visited Lonely Planet among many other vegetarian restaurants here. I find it hard to understand one of the reviews here saying that Lonely Planet is not vegetarian and Kovalam not at place for vegetarians,- since there are organic vegetarian restaurants on every corner. However, Lonely Planet is “a bit depressing” as a friend of mine put it, but the service is fine and the food is fine. Not great but certainly vegetarian and worth a visit if you are in Kovalam.

Simple Indian

I ordered a vegetarian dish from here and asked the staff to make it vegan. He was happy to make some adjustments and made a beautiful cashew curry.

Going from strength to strength

Menu is still huge, many pages long, consisting of very interesting local specialities as well as a few continental dishes. They are even more adept at catering for vegans as they will cook with oil instead of ghee upon request. They will also make your dishes properly spicy hot upon request. Great breakfasts, too.

Pros: Huge menu, vegan friendly, Relaxed

Cons: Hidden down alley
