Corner of tranquility in a busy market

A corner of tranquility in a busy market complex. Friendly and attentive staff.
Ample sandwich options. I didn't try the cakes but they looked good.

Fui bien atendido y la dueña me regaló una trufa

La señora que me atendió fue muy simpática y me regaló una trufa después que pedí un sándwich y una trufa. En solidariedad, le compré otra.

Pros: Totalmente vegano.

Cons: Solo una persona atendiendo.

I don't write a lot of reviews, but wow

You're not going to find this place in any guidebook.

You're not going to find this place period, unless you have a fruit guy here (frutero).
A good fruit guy knows what you like and special orders fresh produce for you from Madrid's central wholesale market, MercaMadrid. (Alas, not open to the public -- you need a frutero)

Lombarda Vegana is in a building filled with fruit guys, meat guys, seafood guys, etc. On the outside the market looks... nondescript, warehouse-ish. Inside, the stalls are sleepy. There are no hordes of tourists here.

But there should be.

Owner/operator Conchi's flavors are in the Goldilocks zone: balanced, often intense, but never overpowering.
-Try the Lombarda Requeson on sourdough (fermented red cabbage with what I can only describe as a dense macadamia foam) -- particularly awesome texture. Taste reminiscent of an NYC Jewish deli, amazing.
-The Golden tofu sandwich is divine.
-The watermelon gazpacho, perfect.
-The sourdough bread is a solid foundation for a sandwich business. I can happily eat the bread without anything on it
-The owner herself is sweet as can be, attentive to details and clearly producing a labor of love

And if you care about that sort thing, everything is organic, half the menu is fermented/probiotic, locally sourced, compostable, etc… For me that's all icing (the cakes are great too). I'll be back for the flavor.

Pros: Hearty, epic sandwiches, Awesome flavors, Solid bang for your buck

Cons: Limited english, but you'll figure it out, Challenging to find: 1st floor 1st left at the end, Spanish siesta hours, so its closed 3-5PM

Great!

We tried the sandwiches “seitan laminado” and “requeson raw” and was delicious! Also we drank a glass of kefir, a probiotic tasty drink. As a plus, all plastics are compostable and the owner is a very kind lady. At the moment it’s a take away place but she reveal us she is going to install some small tables soon (there’s a small bench from the market we’re you can sit and eat if you want). Full recommended!

Excellent Vegan Food!

Every time we traveled to the city, we had to stop in at this awesome little bagel shop.
The tofu sandwich and the jackfruit bagel are both amazing!

Conchita is a really sweet lady who goes above and beyond for people. Not only does she do the most amazing bagels, she takes time to really look after you.

We had her home made Kombucha with a bagel every morning for breakfast and it fueled us for our day of running around the city. The chocolate "donuts" are also very tasty and really hit that chocolate craving!

As others have said, she doesn't speak much English but she tries hard to understand and help you navigate the menu. Between my broken Spanglish and her understanding, we had no issues communicating.

If you're in Madrid and need some quick, lovingly prepared, tasty and filling food, you have to go here!

Pros: The owner is amazingly helpful, Lovingly prepared food, Epic Kombucha

Cons: Not easy to find

worth it!

Hidden away in a corner stall in an unassuming traditional Spanish market, LOMBARDA vegana is a neighborhood gem.
The "Golden Tofu Sandwich" is to die for.
The gazpacho is delicious, a refreshing combination of tomatoes, olive oil, cumin, and watermelon--surprise!
It is very hard to find bagels in Madrid, much less vegan sourdough bagels!
Everything is thoughtfully prepared with intriguing combinations: the macadamia mousse over "Lombarda" (red cabbage) sauerkraut, signature sandwich is amazing.
The owner is very nice and although she is not fluent in English she does her best to accommodate non Spanish speakers; regardless everything is vegan, and half the menu is in English.
Take away or if you're starved there is bench to rest tired tourist feet.

Pros: Tasty, hearty, healthy fare, The bread!, Best bang for your buck we found so far

Cons: Hard to find, First floor, first left, at the end

great food

It was a bit hard to find. The building Mercado Barcelo is a shopping mart. Go inside and to the second floor, take a left and it's all the way down at the end on your left. (Stall 231)

The food was delicious! I had the tofu sandwich and I would definitely eat there again. There's only a bench to sit but the food is worth it.

The lady was very nice. Doesn't speak english but she tries to work with you. Very sweet and treats you well. Definitely give this place a try!

Pros: delicious sandwiches and bagels.

Cons: hard to find
