Delicious vegan options, with a waterfront view of NYC skyline

For a special celebration, our daughter really wanted to go to a rooftop restaurant with an amazing view of NYC at night. Since almost all rooftop spaces are bars that serve food (not a good place to bring kids, even if you don’t have to be 21yo) and not real restaurants, we expanded our search to waterfront restaurants in Jersey City and found Lokal.

The food was *amazing* and there wasn’t a bit of vegan meat or vegan cheese in sight. They serve “global” food. A bunch of menu items are marked “VV” for vegan. My daughter and I shared a bunch of small plates: the quinoa salad ($15), the stuffed eggplant ($11), the vegan pate ($9), roasted potatoes ($11 tell them no mayo), and the pan con tomate & olive tapenade ($11 a thick slice of rustic bread covered with tomato and olive spread).

My husband, who is Korean American, is very picky about Korean food, and ordered the bibimbap entree ($22) - rice with tofu & veggies and a spicy sauce. The bibimbap is vegan if you tell them you don’t want the fried egg on top. He said it was fantastic!

The prices are high but the food is *delicious.* They didn’t just add a veggie burger to the menu. They had really thoughtful vegan options that highlight how delicious plants can be!

And the view is amazing! It’s a great place for a special dinner!

If you want to go and fill your belly while minimizing the bill, go for the bibimbap, since the small plates are quite small.

Pros: Delicious, Many vegan options, Great view

Cons: Expensive, The small plates are very small, Noisy (people talking and loud music)
