Worth a visit

We went to the table service restaurant here (there is also a self service cafe option). There were two tempting vegan options on the lunch menu. I chose roasted celeriac steak with portobello mushroom and tomato with a chimichurri sauce. It was really tasty and well presented. There were vegan scones, croissant and almond croissant for sweet offerings but I didn’t try these but I am still impressed that there was a choice. One star off as they charge extra for soy milk which I think is inexcusable these days. Overall think this a good vegan choice for lunch.

There is also a farm shop next to the cafe/restaurant and they had two nice cake options at the patisserie counter.

Pros: Vegan options that show thought and imagination, Lovely surroundings

Cons: Charging extra for soy milk

Good coffee stop

Lovely location, good teas and coffee but only one vegan bake.

Good principles sometimes a bit hit or miss

The restaurant usually has a vegan dish but current online ordering system (from your table by a clunky app you need to download) is a pain and you're easier using the cafe which has one vegan panini and usually a couple of vegan pastries or croissants. Sometimes there aren't any tho, which is not reliable if you just walked or cycled the heritage trail and are starving.

Staff of the cafe are friendly and helpful - those in the restaurant vary significantly. And they bring you a file of printouts to go through yourself to check ingredients rather than just tell you if you are intolerant to dairy for instance. Which isn't hygienic for somewhere that won't take an order in person. And have seen people sitting in the 'wrong' outdoor area be moved with little grace.

All in all worth a try but not a special trip.

Pros: Plenty seating and good views, Access to heritage trail and plenty outdoor space

Cons: Unreliable supplies of vegan items, Clunky systems for moving about, sitting, ordering

Creative options

It was a long wait for a table in tje restaurant at lunch time, but there is a cafe next door with sandwich and pastry options. We had a look round the shop, which has some very lovely things.
I had a quinoa, preserved lemon, roadt cauliflower, artichoke and ted pepper coulis dish. I also asked for a side of beetroot and hazelnut salad, which was part of a non vegan dish. It was delicious.

I then had a lemon and pistachio cake 😋

Excellent service, spacious, wheelchair accessible and beautifully presented dishes.

Pros: Well thought out vegan options

Cons: A long wait at lunch time

1 Vegan Main but it’s good

At least there is one genuine vegan main... could do with more.
A madras spiced baked cauliflower with hummus. Very tasty... there’s a few vegan sides we had the potatoes wedges.
The pistachio cake is vegan and good too.

Pros: Have a genuine vegan main , Have a vegan cake , Nice place

Cons: Only one vegan main course , Only one vegan cake

Nice

Some really good and inventive vegan main options and a tasty lemon, pistachio and chia sponge cake when I visited. Oat milk available for tea and coffee, very happy :)
