Tasty Chinese-Japanese Food - Edit

I came here for dinner by myself and had the “dried tofu cabbage spicy miso fry” - I’m not usually big on oily or salty food (which this is slightly) but it was really good!! There was a lot of flavour, and with rice as well I left satisfied for sure. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very pleasant. I’d recommend it if this is the type of food you’re looking for. Please note that many of the menu items are vegetarian but the vegan ones are significantly more limited.

Pros: Inexpensive , Pleasant atmosphere , Yummy

Cons: Not more vegan options , Maybe salty for some

Went there twice during my 5 night stay in Osaka and tried the entire menu, all of it was incredible, left feeling extremely satisfied and well fed. reasonably priced, completely run by the chef who was equipped with an english menu. Please please do yourselves a favour and eat here

Pros: Lots of veggie/vegan dishes , Friendly!!, DELICIOUS & reasonably priced

5 stars place - Edit

Oh yes, I would give 5 stars if I could! The place is nice, clean and cozy. The owner/only chef is super kind and welcomes you with a vegan/vegetarian menu. He knows what vegan means. Food is very good, filling, and absolutely reasonably priced. We had mabotofu, which was very tasty. The veggie dumplings are delicious and healthy. I had steamed veggies with tofu (I was craving steamed healthy food) and it did not disappoint me. My husband ordered also deep fried soy meat with pepper fries and he loved it. Everything was scrumptious and we recommend this place

Pros: great food, good prices , nice owner

Good vegan options and very tasty! 5* - Edit

This place is pretty convenient from Namba. Small place but cute. The owner /chef is very friendly.

We had sweet and sour soy meat, mapo tofu (with soy meat), mustard greens and yakisoba noodles. All were great except the noodles which were good.

If i went again i’d try the dried tofu with cabbage and the tantan ramen noodles.

Worth making the slight detour for - great vegan selection and great food!

Best Restauarant near Sakuragawa Station - Edit

This was a very lucky find for me as I booked an airbnb just a minute away from the Sakuragawa station. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find vegan options but as soon as I found this place, it was a SAVING GRACE! And, even better, the BEST restaurant with vegan options I have been to during my stay in Osaka. There is a separate menu for vegetarians / vegans and you can indicate that you are vegan so the chef can recommend the options. They do have a meat menu, so if you have non-veg company, they would be able to enjoy the restaurant as well. Food is super tasty. The chef, although spoke little to no English, is very polite and understood what vegan is. He, above all, takes time making the dishes so the quality of his food is always at its best. I highly, highly recommend!!! If only Happy Cow allowed a 5-star rating.

Pros: separate vegetarian / vegan menu with a lot of opt

best food on trip so far - Edit

We tries to go to this place one evening after trekking to find it but there was a large group in so gave it another go 2 days later....what a find.
The chef made sure we knew what has egg in and we ordered 7 dishes between 3 of us (we were hungry)
The food was so fantastic...we had the mabo tofu which was very spicy (so good), fried sweet and sour soy meat. Brown rice and veggies, noodles, fried cabbage, another tofu dish..and stir fried mustard spinach...they were all amazing....and I mean amazing. It wasnt the cheapest meal we have had this trip.(cause we ordered so much)..each dish was around £800-950....but it was easily worth it and may try and go again before we leave Osaka

Pros: lots of veggie and vegan options and the Chef was

Cons: it wasn't that central but it was worth the 20 min

A new favorite - Edit

A hidden gem in Manami. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Namba, but easily accessible from Sakuragawa station, or anywhere on foot.

The food is refreshingly flavourful and the mapo tofu was mouth numbingly good.

The person who runs it is very sweet and they have an English menu, should you need it.

Pros: Good selection of vegan options, Tasty food, Nice staff

Cons: None

Best vegan food in Osaka - Edit

This is far and away my favorite restaurant in Osaka. It has a very relaxed vibe and the owner not only knows what vegan means but will ask if you're vegan should you order something that had non vegan items in it. Vegetarian and English menus both available.

Pros: Vegetarian menu , lots of options for vegans , English menu

Unique flavors - Edit

Loved it. Definitely not the standard international Chinese place with the same menu... every dish surprised me a little, in a good way. Very fresh and strong flavors.

quaint restaurant serving a wide variety of veg dishes - Edit

Called them up beforehand but the chef/ owner could t understand and hence said "sorry we are closed". Something told me that I should Still go and check. I'm glad I did.
Food was very good. I ordered for crispy mock meat with cabbage, veg dim sums which came with lovely chilli oil and vinegar and also ordered for sky with shredded peppers.
All in all a good place with tasty food. One can easily eat here even if you are a big group and everyone will still get a different veg dish.
Owner / chef was very helpful and cordial.
Lovely Chinese food...

Pros: wide variety

Cons: wine only by bottle

YUM ?????? - Edit

Absolutely delicious meal, definitely one of the best I've had in Japan. Finally a place with vegan options in Japan that is not some macro organic tasteless boresville restaurant that takes you right out of Japan and straight back into the 'hip' part of your white neighbourhood back at home.

I had the Mapo Tofu and finally found veg dumplings/gyoza which I had been craving but unable to find. Strongly recommend.

Note: It is bang on the pin provided and not hard to find if you head for the pin.

I'll be back - Edit

Restaurants can be devilishly hard to find in Japan. But Lo Fuo in Osaka is a welcome exception. From Sakuragawa station take exit number 2. You'll see a bridge when you leave the exit. Cross the bridge and stay on the right hand side of the road. After about 2 or 3 minutes I'll see Lo Fuo on your right hand side. Easy!

Ordering from the menu can be a bit more tricky, because the chef doesn't speak a word of English. At first, my only option was mabo tofu. In the end, turned out Lo Fuo has many other options, but the owner wasn't sure wether I was a vegan or vegetarian and played it safe.

And... the vegan mabo tofu was delicious! Spicy, rich, filling and... cheap. A decent portion of rice plus mabo tofu cost 1,000 yen and that's a good deal. Also, the owner is friendly, the decor very earthy and judging by the meals on the other tables there's a lot of choice once you manage the cross the language barrier. I'll certainly be back... with a Japanese guide.

Pros: easy to find, low price, good food

Cons: no English menu
