Typical Chinese Vegetarian Restaurant

This is one of the famous vegetarian restaurants in town, always busy during lunch & dinner. A great variety of Chinese/Asian dishes offered in the menu. However, mostly are not vegan since most of the sauces used in vegetarian restaurants in town are vegan ie. oyster mushroom sauce (contains sugar), soy sauce (yes, soy sauce also contains sugar - don't be surprised). Thus, I'd still suggest to go for simple dishes using salt, pepper and spices (suggest to confirm if it's house-made or store-bought, then try to figure out if they're vegan).

Also note that honey is used in some of the dishes, it's actually not simply walking into a vegetarian restaurant telling the staff no egg & no milk then the dishes are vegan. Wish to make this clear as I figured out many of the vegetarian restaurants owners & staffs do not understand vegan meaning properly. I've tried asking if any dishes are 純素/全素/vegan and the most common reply is~ "yes, everything is 'su' and they don't serve meat". ** "Su" includes lacto-ovo vegetarian **

Several occasions the dishes served were not as requested/vegan, not sure if there was any miscommunication between the order taker & kitchen. Simple request to exclude egg in fried rice but was still prepared with egg, tofu dishes served contains egg (do check as there are some tofu is made/mixed with egg).

Great Chinese vegetarian food

This restaurant is actually a few hundred metres behind and to the right of the hypermarket, in one of the rows of buildings. The restaurant is green and the large sign clearly says 'vegetarian' (but with a Chinese name rather than "Green Garden"). Initially we thought we could walk there but the bus is the best option (bus 13) as it is quite far from the city. Be warned though, that the buses appear to finish early in the evening (one local thought around 7.30pm).

The food was great and very affordable (most dishes were RM 8-12 and you have a choice of small, medium or large for most dishes). We ordered four small dishes plus rice which was a lot of food (even the small sizes are of a decent size) and it only cost RM 42. They have many veggie meat dishes of all kinds, tofu dishes, vegetable dishes, rice dishes, ironplate and claypot dishes, you name it. We're looking forward to going back!

Pros: Extensive menu, Photos for many of the dishes, Tasty food

Cons: Out of the city centre
