Dishes contained egg after asking for no egg, disappointed

Had high hopes for this after reading the reviews and was even prepared for the slightly different ordering process.
We filled out our form with our order deliberately avoiding any items on the menu which were advertised as containing egg, but to be sure I also wrote “VEGAN - NO EGG” on the top of the form.

When I gave our form to the waitress she had some comments about the sizes we had ordered so suggested we went for smaller options which was fine (I hadn’t read about the portion sizes and there’s no indication anywhere about how big they are).

I also said to her that we were vegan, pointing at what I’d written on the form and explained that we didn’t want any egg in any of the dishes. She responded “yes, no egg, ok” so I thought we were fine.

When the noodle dishes arrived they were full of bits of mock meat and what looked like shredded tofu, it wasn’t until we were half way through both of them that it was clear that they also contained egg. The egg was very small initially but much larger bits further down in the dish.

It wasn’t until a rice dish arrived that we spotted obvious egg in that, we questioned with the waitress if it contains egg as she said yes and confirmed that the noodle dishes also contained egg.

She apologised but we felt pretty sick with what we’d already eaten, paid for the none egg dishes we had already eaten and left.

While we were there a man walked in and asked the waitresses about what was suitable for vegans, I couldn’t hear the full conversation but after a couple of different conversations with different members of staff he got up and walked out.

Great dim sum

I went here since it was close to my hotel. I got dim sum and honestly it’s delicious.

I noticed someone said it was confusing how to order but I kind of just asked immediately how to do it. Fill out the form and waitress and come. Just look helpless if no one sees you ready.

I’ve had Din Tai Fung in Taipei itself and this is a good representation of dim sum (in my humble opinion). I’d recommend this place and I know some people are turned off by the mall aspect but with the heat and humidity, it’s certainly welcome to get some air conditioning!

It’s ok

Located at the back of the food court area, you’ll come across this massive restaurant. As other reviewers have said, it’s really confusing on how to order. I was given a table and a menu and then left. I didn’t know if I was supposed to wait for someone to come over or if I needed to go to a window. I ended up filling out an ordering form and walking towards the desk and then a waitress saw me and took my form. So I still have no idea how it works haha. Good views of the water. An ok restaurant to try out if you want to

Good food - confusing service

Wide array of vegetarian options - many seemed to be vegan. Chaotic place and had difficulty asking questions about ingredients. Meal tasted good.

Not living up to be the best veg restaurant

Food was only okay, went there for breakfast and the service was very confusing, some things by the table , some part is buffet. The servers seemed to be as confused as I was 😆

Convenience location

It's located at the end of Suria food court. Afternoon will economic rice. 3 dishes for $7. Dim sum and economic rice is while stock last.

Pros: Economic rice is tastier than ala carte, Perfect location, Open daily

Cons: Only open at 10am

Very friendly people!

The lady working there was very attentive and recommended me a really good dish!

I had rojak and asked no egg.
It had temphe😍
I really liked the taste and the portion was big enough in my opinion for 12RM😄

Generally great but inconsistent

I took my friends one day and ordered different foods. It was great, particularly the Tom Yam Soup. So, we decided to go again the next day, but it was not as great as it was the day before. The soup was not as thick (too watery) as it was, the taste was different - not as great. Other foods were yummy.

Also, they need better waiters/waitresses - ones who are more attentive 😅

Wow!

Stumbled across this restaurant and I’m so glad we did. So so many options of traditional dishes. Massive portions even for a small. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Amazing food

We went here for lunch and immediately decided we wanted to go again for dinner. We had the chicken satay, curry and pork dumplings, ma po tofu, and the chilly prawns. You can indicate of your ordering leaflet you want no egg, less sugar and oil etc. The food tasted amazing, and was not too greasy or salty what is sometimes the case with similar restaurants. We didnt try the buffet, which made it rather expensive but def worth it. Note that the bao and dim sum are not available during the evening

Pros: Amazing food, Good options

Cons: Bit expensive

Withering seed

FM was disappointed by the quality of the cooking. There was a promising range of vegan Chinese and Malay dishes on the menu many using mock meat but the preparation was not so good and the food tasted bland and one-dimensional. FM thought the chicken satay was ok.

Great View and Good Food

The water view and service is great. If you eat at the buffet, it is about the same price as the noisy food court options near by. 7 to 10 myr depending on if you order white or brown rice and 3 or 4 options. The food was fresh. The buffet had some different items the 3 times we ate there. English is spoken by several of the staff so it is easy to ask questions.

Big & Varied Menu

Was a bit sceptical to try this place after lots of bad reviews but tried it anyway as we wanted a nice restaurant experience for a change. The menu was huge with lots of options. We haven’t tried a laksa since being in Malaysia so we both had a S (the S was definitely plenty in size!) and shared some of the Satay ‘Chicken’ both were delicious and staff were really helpful. Tastiest meal in a while!

Poor food standard & service

This app won’t let you 1 star this restaurant but I had a very much 1 star experience unfortunately. I have a severe egg allergy and ordered food that should not contain egg, or so I thought. Pre ordering I confirmed what I ordered with staff was egg free, and when the food arrived (within 5mins so not cooked fresh) I began to have a reaction, therefore not being able to eat the food. When explaining this to staff they simply responded with ‘there’s no egg’, and had to pay the full amount, whilst my throat was closing up.

Pros: A lot of food choices

Cons: Poor staff service, Poor food standards, Cheap and tacky interior

That’s absolutely terrible, we went yesterday and had a similar experience regarding egg, fortunately none of us are actually allergic though!

Egg in ‘vegan’ food, incredibly rude staff

Greater awareness of vegan and allergies needed
Despite proving some food had egg in and we couldn’t eat it, they forced us to pay for all of it.
Two waitresses were really rude from start to finish, even before any issues were raised.
Would give 1 star if the app would let me

Pros: Harbour views - but not worth it

Cons: There was hidden egg in 2 dishes, Rudest staff I’ve ever met

Nice location and view

If you don't want to get vegetarian meat (that tastes like real meat), let them know while placing an order. Food is bland (at least ours was). Good drinks. You get your order after 5-10 minutes only.

Pros: drinks, fast service

Cons: bland taste

Great view

Great view overlooking the water - although it's inside behind a glass window. No buffet at dinner - big menu with a lot of mock meats. Food was bland. Fresh juice watered down (although this isn't uncommon in Borneo).

Strategic Location with Amazing Ocean View!

Convenient - strategically situated in Suria Sabah shopping mall in CBD. Very spacious, with amazing sea view where you can watch the sunset! Lotsa of choices, be sure to remind the dishes to be made vegan.

Just few tips to share...

- Deep fried mushrooms dishes are not vegan (contains egg)
- Tom Yum and Laksa dishes contains dairy
- Red Bean Biscuits (Dim Sum) is not vegan (contains dairy - they brush milk the pastry with milk)
- Remember to request for Eggless / Local Tofu (it's quite common that 2 types of tofu are offered in Chinese Vegetarian Restaurant so be sure to ask)
- Lion Mane Mushrooms are not vegan (contains dairy - quite common in most Chinese Vegetarian restaurants so please ask!)
