Only one vegan option

If you're vegetarian, then there are quite a few veggie options and there was a separate vegetarian specials board.

If you're vegan, then you might not want to make a special visit there.

There was one vegan option in the printed menu. A chili and rice. It was made of red peppers, onion, probably soya mince and a few kidney beans. It was tasty.

But it was a pity with all the vegetarian offerings that there weren't more vegan friendly options.
Plus the guy behind the bar actually told me there were no vegan options but I discovered the chilli as signed vegan in the menu. He didn't seem to have a clue.

It's an old pub atmosphere. It's not a high-dining experience and the toilets need more maintaining.

Hopefully they will become more vegan friendly.

Pros: Chilli is tasty.

Cons: Needs more vegan friendly options., Needs more attention.

Fantastic!

Lovely pub with a great range of vegetarian/vegan options in a beautiful location. Had an absolutely lovely meal (the vegan chilli) and nothing was too much trouble for the landlord/chef...who is veggie himself! Very friendly staff, I would highly recommend!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Friendly staff, Beautiful pub

great lunch stop on a bike ride

A couple of vegan options on the Sunday we went - a veggie chilli with nachos and a bean and quinoa casserole. We both had the chilli which was a generous portion. Very friendly and fast service.

Great main selection, now for desserts!

Lovely old English pub, with brilliant walks roundabout, and dog-friendly. Excellent selection of vegan mains - 5 on offer when we were there - and it was proper home cooked comfort food.
The only disappointment was when it came to dessert - there were no options that were suitable that day, nor was their soya milk for hot drinks. Both I think, could be easily rectified?

Pros: great selection of main courses, vegetarian chef, so trusted he understood! , lovely old pub

Cons: no vegan desserts , no soya milk, short staffed the day I was in

Good portions but oily burger

Nice old style English pub with a good atmosphere and decent selection of beers. Staff were friendly and helpful. Had the beetroot burger which was disappointing - very oily and in a dry bun.

Pros: Big portions

Cons: Very oily

Very accommodating chef

Having read the other reviews on HC, I was looking forward to enjoying some good vegan food in a nice country pub setting.

We weren't let down, although simple in presentation, the food was tasty, with great flavour combos on the go. We had the vegan chilli and mushroom stroganoff.

The chef came and spoke to me about what my choices were, and it was nice to have multiple options.

Wasn't sure whether the barman understood what I was asking when I asked which beers were vegan, as he responded about the flavour and strength of the drinks, but all around a nice place to go. Would come again.

Pros: Good value, Tasty food, Accommodating chef

real country pub that goes above and beyond for veggies and vegans

this is a brilliant English country pub on its own ignoring the fact it is also so great for veggies and vegans (and meat eaters). Great rotation of ales, friendly locals and a spectacular setting in the pretty village of bledlow.

thanks to the fact that the Landlord is a Vegetarian, there is always a vegetarian menu on the wall which usually has home made pies, chilli, burgers, salads etc. at least one or two of these options are vegan (and not just the salads, but the pies etc), but more importantly the chef (also landlord) is always very accommodating to vegans and can modify or create dishes on demand.

best pub in bucks (but I might be biased as its our regular haunt)

Pros: very dog friendly, a real traditional pub, not a gastro pub

Cons: can get very busy on sunday lunches/bank holidays

Vegan options!

The Lions is an excellent country pub, nestled in a corner of the village, like a gateway to some great woodland walks.

The chef is vegetarian and always has a separate vegetarian menu that always includes a couple of vegan options. I have had great soups, a lovely veggie chilli (with veggie mince) and most recently a really tasty vegetable pie, on wholemeal crust with roast potatoes, veg and gravy on a Sunday. I hope this become a permanent fixture!

Pros: Vegetarian menu, Vegan options, Parking

Cons: Can get busy, Need to book on a Sunday

Very veg friendly old English pub

This lovely old 16th Century pub does sell meat but they also have a dedicated vegetarian board and a vegetarian owner. If this were in a city centre that would be no big deal but out in the countryside of Buckinghamshire this is incredibly rare!

I had a delicious veg chilli (vegan without the sour cream) in the bar area. It has everything you'd expect from a traditional country pub - low beams, antique weaponry on the walls, open fire, lots of dogs, great gardens and a large car park.

If you are in the area and looking for a country pub experience without the 'beef-on-beef' menu then you'd do well to visit.

Pros: Dedicated veg menu, Very generous portions, Traditional country poub
