3 Chome-4-18 Maizurumachi, Oita, Japan, 870-0044

Owner is vegan and fluent in English. Menu is macrobiotic and organic, and all-vegan per report Mar 2015. Lunch is Japanese style comprising several small dishes, served from 12-2pm; other times it's a cafe. Brown rice and miso soup are staples. Uses seitan, no refined sugar. Barley tea, coffee, or tea offered with meal. One sweet option. Also sells a small selection of grocery items, some pottery, arts and crafts. Holds meditation sessions and casual English conversation events some evenings. Relocated from Shirosaki Machi 2-2-12, 2F. Open Mon-Fri 11:00am-6:00pm, Sun 11:00am-6:00pm. Closed on public holidays.

Delicious seasonal ingredients - Edit

I have been here twice. The owner is very friendly and is a long-time vegan. There is a small shop area selling macrobiotic items (not all items on the shelves are vegan though, so be careful! - e.g. the chocolate on the shelves at the time I visited, were not vegan as it contained conventional cow dairy). The food is very delicious and although the individual portions seem small, the total portion is very generous and reasonably priced (my meal was a little over 1000 yen including the hot tea... I also ordered a muffin at an extra cost so I had a nice full meal at under 1500 yen that day) A variety of foods are served on your plate and the ingredients are all seasonal. Everything was very delicious. The banana muffin is also very nice!

Pros: tasty, seasonal food., friendly, English speaking owner., vegan food products/snacks on sale (check labels).

Cons: location a bit far from the station (take the bus), not all items in the shop area are vegan.

Unforgettable experience in Life Gallery - Edit

We recently visited Life Gallery in Oita, the owner is a warmth person and she pays attention in preparing her food. The vegan organic macrobiotic lunch is fantastic, with 9 dishes in one plate. A must go place if you happen to be in Oita or Beppu.

An Oasis in Oita - Edit

Eating vegan in Japan can be a bit of a challenge as it is not really understood there. The owner of this quaint cafe causes you to forget all of this though with her wonderful cooking and great English conversation. There are some great teas and coffees to go with your meal and a not-too-sweet-but-altogether-satisfying dessert for afterwards as well. The view of Oita castle was great.

Pros: Delicious Food, Warm Atmosphere, Great View
