Phenomenal plant based local Tuscan produce - Edit
Best plant based food we had in Tuscany and in such a lovely building with amazing decoration and a warm and home like feel!
Read moreWe had the pleasure of being hosted by Enrico, who was a delight and made us feel so very welcome. His passion for the food they serve is clear and his knowledge and information of all dishes really helped in making decisions on a delicious sounding menu.
The food is amazing, locally sourced and delicious, with substitutes of gluten coming from natural sources and ingredients i.e. different type of flours rather than ultra processed to remove allergens. Enrico spoke us through all the options and the original menu versus what would be coming in the new Autumn menu, which we had the option of either.
All the food is clearly made with passion and love, so matches the front of house for how much it makes you feel at home.
For a place as beautiful and charming as Volterra, this place is the gem. We will 100% be back next time we visit the area.
Pros: Amazing food, Brilliant, friendly service, Beautiful decor

Very beautiful and tasteful! - Edit
This is a fully plantbased restaurant. We had lunch, with an appetizer with different kinds of hummus and a pizza for main course. Everything was really good and the service was great. Also, the interior is really nice. The floor is see through, where you can see the old roman road. Wow! If you're around, definitely go here!

Grandioses Essen und fantastischer Service! - Edit

Planted based in Volterra - Edit

Grazie!

Closed for now - Edit
I had a reservation for this evening and about a week ago they emailed me saying that all of their staff had quit weeks earlier and they assumed that they’d be able to fill the positions by now. They’re not sure when they will be opening again.

Dear dsusanw, as our reception informed you in May 2025, our kitchen staff, without any warning, betrayed the collaboration that had been going on for many years. It was not an easy moment for us, we need to close our restaurant in one day. We think you can understand, some humans beings still live in a bad dimension, they make wars, live on jealousy and envy, kill children, humans, animals, nature and also vegan businesses. We follow another way, we're so sorry for them, in any case we remain pure. This is our life. We chose this many years ago with heart, strength, consciousness and determination. Now, after two months of research, we are gradually reopening the restaurant. We are very happy to inform you and all the members of Happy Cow that on July 8th 2025 we reopened the restaurant. For this July we have a slightly reduced opening hours, it is important to book in advance. On August 1st new chefs arrive and we will reopen permanently. We hope to host you in the future, if you choose to return in Tuscany, in Volterra. We are here, ever purer, truer and stronger. Thank you.

Dear lolalaptop. No, it's not permanent, totally, we are now reopening, you can read in the comment above more details. Life Bistrot is not a game, not a temporary experiment. It is our important life project, felt in the heart, 100% vegan, beauty, organic and local, right here in Tuscany. We have been affirming this good food for many years, nothing and no one can stop us. This 2025 unfortunately, due to human follies, we had to stay closed for 2 months. That's it. If you come back you will have the opportunity to understand us better. We are and will remain here. Thank you.

Great service, bland food - Edit
Life Bistrot is really nice, very friendly owners, located in a beautiful street, a cozy place. The food is full vegan and good looking on the plate but not so tasty. We had a pici, pizza, gnocchi and a chestnut roll. The roll was kind if empty inside so I can’t tell was it is. Pizza was like a biscuit. Pici was rather better but like gnocchi something was amiss.

Cute and cozy - Edit
Life bistrot is a very cuty and cozy vegan place with an unique menu. We had the chestnut role, aubergine parmigiana and chef’s cutting board and the tiramisu. All were very lovely, although sometimes a bit cold. Life bistrot is also a little more expensive than other vegan places we’ve tried in the area. It was good, however not the best ever.

Top in Italy - Edit
Without a doubt, Life Bistrot is among the top vegan restaurants in Italy (and in Europe!). My wife and I had dinner there and also lunch the day after, in order to try as many items of the menu as possible. Every dish is top notch, made with fresh organic ingredients, very tasty, presented extremely well, and even balanced from a nutritional point of view. The owner is a fantastic person and always willing to explain all the dishes and even the history of thr restaurant and the associated hotel in town. Personally I would particularly recommend the pici (especially if you like pepper), the seitan which is otherworldly, and the melanzana "alla parmigiana", but make sure you don't miss the desserts! If I could give this place 6 stars out of 5, I would. I hope I'll be back soon!
