The 1980s are alive and well... - Edit

The sort of veggie cafe that gave vegan food its image of wholemeal pastry and dry cake. It's like a veggie cafe from the 80s. Had a decent soya latte here, but the one vegan cake option was like eating flip flops. Didn't try the mains as none were labelled vegan on the day we visited.

It's a workers cooperative, and wholly organic, on the plus side.

Pros: Soya lattes, Vegan cakes

Cons: A bit 'hair shirt' for the modern vegan

I really like this café, they have vegan cappuccino with soy milk. There were 2 vegetarian options and 2 vegan options. They were nice and they know what "vegan" means, the food is organic and good, you have a great vegan plate for 9€. I think it is a place you must try !

Pros: Veggies everywhere, Vegan options, Vegan cappuccino

Cons: There was a lot of people so sometimes, it can be hard to find a seat

Sadly nothing vegan to eat - Edit

I went there today (Sunday) afternoon but there was nothing vegan to eat, not even a cake. Disappointing.

I resorted to the Daily Monop' in Gare Saint Charles, by platform A. This is a fast food cafe and take away, They have some vegan salads, fruit and even vegan yoghurt from the Coconut Collaborative.

An exellent option while waiting for your train - Edit

Located just in front of Saint Charles train station, this tiny restaurant offers snacking and meal options which are delicious. Of course, if you arrive at the end of lunch hour options might be limited. But it's worth trying it!

Good place for a soy cappuccino at least - Edit

It was nice to find a place so close to the train station where you can actually get a soy cappuccino (very often in France, the only place offering this is Starbucks, and they charge extra for it on top of their already crazy high prices). Here, it cost only three euros.

A shame though that they have so few vegan options, and that they run out of these so early in the day. If they would add more vegan things to their menu, or better yet, go all vegan, not only would everyone be able to eat there, but they would also be making a much bigger contribution to environmental protection, which is one of their main goals, if not the foremost one.

To encourage them to go more vegan, if you stop by, make a point of asking what vegan items they have. That will help show the demand. :)

Three out of five cows nonetheless for doing more than the average restaurant, and for heading in the right direction.

Pros: soy milk for drinks, low prices, nice ambiance

Cons: not enough vegan items

Disappointing - Edit

I can't say if it is good or not, because as I went there yesterday at 14.45, they had nothing more to offer that I could eat, except from some pieces of cakes. The vegan border was simply unavailable and I couldn't eat anything

Pros: location

Cons: nothing more to eat Sunday at 14.45

Veg cafe literally in front of the gare St-Charles - Edit

Feel pretty dumb for not having ever noticed this place before - it's literally in front of the steps to the gare St-Charles. A pleasant and relaxed cafe and restaurant, quite 'granola' but that's not a criticism. They have a small menu with limited vegan options but, the day I went, the main dish was vegan - hummus (not very good); quinoa with pumpkin seeds; chickpeas with collards; carrots and cabbage; a ?tahini sauce?; mâche; some bread. Not gourmand but simple and healthy. Can't complain - filled me up and it all cost only 9 EUR. Nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Very self-service - they bring you your food but you gather your utensils, glasses, water etc. Glad to have found this place.

Pros: location, cheap, healthy

Cons: limited vegan options

Eco-veggie place, but limited choices for vegans - Edit

The Ecomotive Café is an associative Coffee that promotes ecological behaviors. It consequently offers fresh vegetarian food and drinks. The place is well located near the train station, the atmosphere is nice and relaxed and the staff is friendly. However, there are sometimes very few vegan options. Only the starter was vegan when I had lunch here: hummus and fried vegetables with their homemade bread (excellent), that were good but not sufficient for a complete meal. And there was no other options. Because they promote a sustainable attitude toward the environment, it is a pity that vegan options was so hard to find. Prices are fair, and even cheaper if you are a member of the coffee.

Pros: well located, fresh food, vegetarian, large opening hours, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, affordable

Cons: few vegan choices

Next to train station - Edit

This is a down to earth place next to the train station which offers relatively healthy fare. Nothing too fancy. On the other hand, compared to the awful eateries that usually are found near huge train terminals , this one is pretty good.

Pros: good locations, healthy, relaxed, not expensive

Cons: not fancy, not gourmet
