Delicious - Edit
Leaf Restaurant was attached to another restaurant. My friends were happy as they could order from a different menu! I had the tapa menu and had delicious sliders and a tofu dish.

Not super welcoming or impressive - Edit
Before dining here, I had looked at the menu online and was excited to try it out.
Read moreImmediately when I walked in I got the vibe that it was not a place for solo diners, and I should have listened to that inner instinct. Despite being one of the only patrons in the restaurant, I felt thinly veiled contempt from the staff and perhaps judgement based on my age/perceived economic class. The waitress did not seem to like that I only wanted water, so I ordered an iced tea and was very disappointed at how watery and tasteless it was.
My food was not as advertised- my scramble barely had any tofu in it, and they were out of biscuits (they come on the side) so they substituted to toast without consulting me. I wish I would've known because the biscuit on the side was a major reason I ordered that dish in particular, and I would've ordered something else (or at least asked them to substitute to home fries instead of toast). I tried a dessert, which was probably better than the meal. Still, for $10, the chocolate mezcal cake was a small portion and not an ideal texture.
I always try to support vegan/vegetarian businesses, but it looks like some of the omni businesses had better and cheaper vegan fare out there in Boulder.
Pros: More upscale food, Healthy menu options
Cons: Bad service, Pricey, Not tasty :(

Reliably good food in great location - Edit
When we visit Boulder, we tend to come to Leaf or Tsing Tao for a meal. Leaf is in a cozy little location near the Pearl Street Mall, which is handy if we're in that area. I've always enjoyed the food at Leaf, it's reliably well-prepared and service has always been fantastic. Not everything is vegan, but a lot can be prepared vegan upon request.

Good vegan options - Edit
We had an excellent dinner here. We ordered the Tuscan Garden, Sesame Tofu and Ube and the Orange Cauliflower. The tofu was served as a slab, and pretty uninteresting. The other dishes were fine. The menu clearly marks what is vegan or could be made vegan.

Solid Vegan Brunch ☀️ - Edit
Got the carrot lox, veganized farmer’s scramble, and a matcha lavender oat milk latte. All were solid! 👍🏻 Agree with another comment I saw that the tofu scramble in isolation was nothing special, but the “farmers scramble” with all the seasonal veg, cashew cream, & vegan sausage mixed in was really delicious on a whole. I would def be interested in returning to try other dishes.

Read moreWe got vegan brunch food, which is what we wanted, and it tasted fine! They massively upcharged for plant-based milk and vegan cheese, which was not specified in the menu, so we were upset about that.
We got the smothered burrito (which picky, nonvegan mother enjoyed), the pancake breakfast (pancakes were tiny, "bacon" was not at all like bacon, and the scramble was completely tasteless!!!), and the burger, which tasted good.
Service was decent as well. It was nice to find a place with vegan food here, as there weren't many options.

Fresh and tasty - Edit
Delicious and creative dishes. Everything was VERY clearly marked on the menu and the server was lovely. I got the Benedict on cornbread (brilliant idea IMO) made vegan (with tofu). So good! That blackberry lemonade was also a treat. Definitely suggest vegans stop by when in Boulder. ❤️

Many choices! Adorable decor. - Edit
Pleasant setting. It was a lovely summer day, so most people sat outside. I had a wrap. I liked that I could choose fruit as a side for no extra cost. The fruit that day was a cup of fresh berries. My partner had the huevos rancheros which was 10/10.

Taco Buffalo - Edit
What can I say about Leaf that hasn’t already been said…
Read moreThis place is a must-visit for the plant-based foodie visiting Boulder. It’s an old-guard, veggie-forward establishment here in the People’s Republic.
The belle of the ball is the buffalo cauliflower taco. It’s been on the menu for at least a decade and subsists back to the old location less than a block away. Back in my day, you could get a plate of three for $10 (though you had to walk barefoot uphill through a snowstorm both ways to get them). Now they’re 4.50 apiece, but have never failed to please these buds. You’d be remiss to visit and at least not try one.

I had the lapsang souchong bbq which had a delicious blueberry bbq sauce and corn bread made inside a husk and loved the flavors. For lunch the next day I took the Jamaican jerk tempeh and also really loved the flavors. They also have some beers on tap

Amazing restaurant - Edit
Beautiful space, nice staff, creative menu... I ordered the crab cake slider during happy hour and it was really tasty. Then, I got the lapsang souchong BBQ and wow - what a unique dish! Many different flavors and textures, everything was delicious. It was a lot of food so I was pretty full, but I still wanted to try a dessert... so I took a slice of the carrot cake to go and had it the next day. It was almost like a slice of heaven. The dough was so moist, and the icing was so sweet, it was just perfect! Definitely recommended.

Awkward - Edit
We must have visited on an off day. It was a Monday around 1p and there were guest at two tables inside and we sat outside. Our service was slow, as I watched our server walking by a few times while I was waiting for our drink order to arrive. I made an inquiry to the host and then we were served the drinks and able to place our order.
Read moreWe ordered the calamari style mushrooms; which we were told the mushrooms arrived the day before and fresh. The mushrooms were delicious! We also ordered the vegan crab cake sandwich and the mushroom burger with the daily soup; which was a poblano cream. We shared with our server the soup was not good. Then I had to share with her I found a hair (which looked like a dog hair) in my crab cake sandwich. This was all very awkward!
Cons: Outdoor seating is on a high traffic street

Do not recommend - Edit
I wanted to like this place. I like to support vegan friendly places. But this place is not it. The menu is all over the place with no theme other than vegetarian/vegan. How can they make Korean, Thai, etc etc and think they will get it right? Overall they missed flavors all around. I recommend you skip this and instead pick places that have 1-2 vegan options.
Read moreWe ordered the mushroom calamari (I had similar dish at Crosseoads Kitchen a vegan place). Here is fried like tempura and beans unseasoned or under seasoned. The dipping is sauce from bottle than something home made.
The leaf plate is so sad. The naan is nonsense. I have had baba ghnouj is so many places this place has the worst and I can’t even call it bg. There is no seasoning, no evoo, no acid, and the texture is like a thick blob. I make better bg when I follow recipe.
The hummus is same with no hint of tahini. The pickled vegetables that came with leaf plate were over dressed in vinegar.
The pad Thai is wrong in so many ways. The noodles are thin noodles and the vegetables and sauce and noodle all were unmixed. The sauce flavor is no where near pad Thai.
This place should learn what is flavor, learn about acid, hear, umami, salt.
