Good middle eastern food - Edit
Stumbled on this by accident and very happy to have done so. The menu has most of the middle eastern staples on it but the best thing is that the vegetarian and vegan dishes are clearly marked - so there is no need to struggle with language asking the staff which items are vegan.
Can recommend the Shurba - a lentil soup with cumin, and the Patate con Harissa - nice level of spice.
Also there is a vegan dessert - halva - which is unusual to find (a vegan dessert that is).
Surroundings nice and comfortable and staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Pros: Good food, Menu clearly labelled, Nice staff

Not so sure.... - Edit
I visited Le Mille e Una Notte during the month of August 2015 at lunch time.
The restaurant is very comfortable with plenty of seating inside and outside on the leafy avenue. The staff was very friendly and helpful but...
Unfortunately, the food is not, in my view, particularly good or fresh. I had a vegan dish and my boyfriend a vegetarian one both including the usual Middle Eastern specialities which did not taste particularly authentic (I had lot of Middle Eastern food in my life), tasty or very fresh.
I still believe Le Mille e Una Notte could be a pleasant place where to eat in case there is nothing else open. Sorry...
Pros: Central, Very comfortable seating inside, Friendly & helpful staff
Cons: Not very authentic Middle Eastern food, Not particularly fresh, Lack of taste

Good veg options, fair prices - Edit
This Mediterranean-Arabian restaurant right in Viale XX Settembre (Trieste's "La Rambla") offers a good choice of vegetarian dishes and some vegan ones. I recommend the "Vegetariano" and the "Mediterraneo" mixes that include felafel, hummus, dolma, eggplant sauce etc. Prices are reasonable if not cheap, expect to pay around 15-20 euro per person, drinks included. Excellent option in the heart of the city!
