Excellent - Edit

Small menu (2 entrees, 2 mains, 2 desserts), but the options are great and what we ordered was delicious. Like quiche, polenta, and tiramisu. Really tasty, and the plates look great as well. Service is quick and server is friendly.

Pros: very tasty, looks great, friendly service

Excellent ! - Edit

Super! So glad this is here! - Edit

My son is vegan and it was so lovely to go out for a meal at this brave enterprise in Puisserguier. Vegans will be pleased to find a restaurant in France that caters for them. Non-vegans will be pleasantly surprised. The staff are very pleasant and the food is good. Don't go expecting anything earth shattering. This is a regular restaurant that happens to be vegan - and all the better for it. Venez nombreux!

Pros: Lovely food. Desserts were great!, Seitan brochettes!

Hidden vegan gem / une gemme végétalienne - Edit

When I say 'hidden', I mean it! Hidden in plain view, on the main road through Puisserguier, but still carrying the former restaurant's name and description outside, (L'Esplanade, pizzeria), is this family-run vegan restaurant.

The food is well-flavoured and produce is local and fresh. The welcome is warm (perhaps a little nervous) and a lot of thought has gone into this new venture. I would thoroughly recommend booking in advance (they have a Facebook page, are developing a website, and speak both French and English so booking by phone is easy). They aim to minimise waste, so tend to buy and prepare ingredients based on likely numbers for any given night. We have seen potential customers turned away, which was a real shame. Well worth a visit - a rarity in this region!

Pros: 100% vegan, Great flavours, Welcoming

Cons: Booking advised

New and unexpected - Edit

One does not expect a vegan restaurant in this part of France and the owners have received a fair amount of local publicity since opening on May. Four of us went, one vegan, one vegetarian and two meat eaters. First, even when you know the address, it is easy to miss as it has the branding of the previous pizzeria. Inside, it was fairly busy and it looked as if only the two of them worked there, the man in the kitchen and the woman serving. This situation was reflected in the very short menu, just 2 choices each for starter, main course and dessert. Also, they turned away about 15 people while we were eating, because they said they did not have the food to offer.
The dining room had not been refurbished but was fine. The food itself, and it hurts to say this given how much they care, was not exciting. The starter of vegetable crumble was bland and unattractive and the two main courses, chilli sin carne and brochettes of seitan, were also dull. The latter was accompanied by a pile of potatoes and a burned sausage. The owners make much in their publicity about the importance of high-quality, fresh ingredients but there was little evidence of that: no crisp salads, no crunchy vegetables. The desserts were better: a 'tiramisu' tasted bright and fresh and the chocolate cake was substantial and tasty, set off by a minty mousse.
They clearly need support if they are to survive and the indications are that they have little little cash. But the food does need to show more imagination and they do need to become more savvy about the trade. Turning away 400+ euros of custom when there were empty tables is bad business even for someone with strong ideals.
So, do go if you are in the vicinity and do be encouraging. It would be marvellous if they can make it work.
By the way, they do now accept cards.

Pros: It exists!, Good service , All vegan

Cons: Unimaginative food
