Lovely place for Mezcal and Food - Edit
We wanted to try the Tamal de Mole, Guacamole (with chips), and the Mezcal Espadín. Everything was really fun and tasty! The tamale was beautifully presented on a grape leaf and a side salad while the guacamole came with chips that were baked (rather than fried) to a minimally oily perfection! Smaller portions are on the small side, but getting the Mezcal really makes you enjoy the food in a slow, more appreciative way.

Served meat as a Vegetarian - Edit
The service was terrible. Very rude and dismissive service from who I believe is the owner. This man served me meat after I specifically asked for a vegetarian meal. He was too arrogant and dismissive to have paid enough attention to me when I tried to confirm via pointing to the Gnocchi meal I was ordering on the menu (which was vegetarian).
Read moreInstead, I was served the alternative Gnocchi option which was not vegetarian. It was only after tasting the meat, that I realised it was not correct. I chose this Resturant based on the fact that it has vegan and vegetarian options. Had the owner been more understanding I would not have complained but his reaction to my question as to what was served to me, was rude, arrogant and belittling. He yelled at me and would not accept responsibility when I tried to tell him that I had attempted to confirm my order with him but he was too dismissive and ignorant to pay attention. I was completely shocked with his behaviour.

On two different visits, I had seitan fajitas and spaghetti primavera. The seitan fajitas were not what you would think. Seitan and veggies cooked in a tasty sauce with rice on the side. The spaghetti was outstanding. Both dishes are highly recommended. Also had salads, which are outstanding. Just the right amount of dressing, flavorful and inventive. Even more vegan options than last year. Basically restaurant is Italian-Mexican fusion. Vegan options clearly labeled. Best option in Oaxaca for vegans, by far!

Despite having a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian options, this place was a complete let down. Our drinks glasses had lipstick on, my food arrived cold and bland, my friend was given plain pasta instead of the bolognase she ordered. The staff were also grumpy and reluctant to even change the dirty glasses.

Great food for very little money - Edit
Having seen some of the photos on here, we were expecting this place to be a bit rough around the edges, but keen to try some vegan takes on local food. Couldn't have been more wrong - the venue is lovely, service was friendly and the food itself was such great value! The vegan tacos are absolutely delicious, and at only $100 pesos (about £4 currently) a really filling meal that doesn't hurt your wallet. Paired ours with a 35 peso beer and really nice 70 peso glass of white wine. Definitely going to go back before we leave Oaxaca

The friendly Italian owner wanted to make the restaurant 100% vegan, but his patrons didn’t seem to be ready for that. He can veganize almost everything and the flavors are great!

As most pasta options are only vegetarian, I had the vegan fajitas. According to the menu the fajitas should be made of seitan. Well, it was more like texturized soy meat, but was very tasty anyway. Very nice restaurant, friendly staff. Would go there again.

If you're near the Santo domingo, make sure to stop by! I've tried the soy hamburger, spaghetti, and tacos dorados (a must try!) and each has been filling and delicious. Great location to watch parades going by as well.

We had a hard time finding vegan food in Oaxaca. Le Campane offers vegan Soups, Salads, Tacos (with Soyameat) and a very nice Burger! There was no one in the the Restaurant but we (in december). Staff was okay. Place is cool! Would definitely visit again.

Should Be Five Stars But Not Completely Vegetarian - Edit
Lots of vegan and vegetarian items. Plenty to eat. Should be five stars, but Happy Cow limits it to four. Yum soup. Yum pasta. Yum seitan. Yum tacos. The owner is a super cool vegan Italian and brought Italy to us. Also, the Mexican food is delicious.

Outstanding Quality Vegan Food - Edit
We were finally excited to see so many vegan options on a menu. Their house made seitan was phenomenal in both the seitan fajitas and the Mediterranean seitan dish. The prices are a little bit high (not necessarily fit for a backpacker's budget), but the quality and portion size is worth it. Some of the best vegan food I have eaten in Mexico... and let's be honest --- anywhere! The owner was great and talked to us for a long time :). I would recommend this place to anyone who is tired of rice and beans! Great ambiance too... pair you meal with a glass of wine!

When we visited, the vegan section of the menu was fairly limited. We were happy there was a vegan section at all, but I'd expected a few more options. The staff were very knowledgeable about what vegan meant, the food on the menu was clearly marked, and the food was served elegantly. I wasn't blown away by either of our dishes (both seitan - one served fajitas style, and the other served Mediterranean style) but they were both fairly good. We only visited Le Campane once during our trip, as we felt like we'd sampled all of their vegan offerings during our first meal.

Soup to literally save your soul - Edit
We'd been ill before we got to Oaxaca (Mr Montezuma, you have your revenge) and all we wanted was a healthy, tasty soup. You know the feeling? The lentil soup was something extraordinary and at the time, life changing. Aside from our ailments, the soup was really not just timely but really good. We went there twice. The owner decided a free mezcal would hasten our recovery. This proved to be untrue. Also recommend the spaghetti!

This was virtually the only restaurant where I had vegan options available, and an english menu. I ate there 3 times during my 5 day stay in Oaxaca. Delicious food. Can't recommend it enough.

We had been exploring Oaxaca City for a few days when we found Le Campane. When we spotted vegan options on their blackboard I was excited!

The service was great and our food was full of flavour. We finished with some coffees and they were also great.

Great Mex-Italian! - Edit
I've been here a number of times, since it is pretty hard to find clearly-marked vegan food in Oaxaca (and some places don't understand what vegan means--like when your 'sandwich vegano' comes out with cheese). The menu here has a number of items clearly marked as vegan including a whole page dedicated to it.
Read moreI believe the menu changes occasionally, but some favorites of late (all vegan) are:
Ensalada vegano: Just a great salad. Has tofu and nuts and cranberries
Bruschetta: fantastic european style grilled bread with a delicious topping of tomatoes olive oil and basil
Lentil soup: just delicious soup served with the same great bread
Entomatadas de Tofu: sort of like chilaquilas with tortillas and tofu in a tomato sauce
Taquitos: soy-chorizo in fried taquitos with a sauce, and served with fries
Seitan in Mole sauce.
Many other items, including a great cous cous, veggie burger, and vegan pasta bolognese.
The prices are moderate for here (cheap for US) with prices about $80-120 (MXP) for entrees.
The owner (who is very friendly and attentive) eats vegetarian, but the restaurant does serve meat. One other note on the owner-when a hungry stray dog wandered into the restaurant, he politely asked it to leave, and then gave it some food outside. Also, when workers were making noise outside on the street during dinner--instead of asking them to quiet down or being angry, he gave them free coffee and complemented them on the work. It's nice to support people who are genuinely kind and care about animals.
