Tasty vegan cheese board but overpriced! - Edit
Excited to stumble across this new vegan restaurant near Union Square. It has a fancy ambience (although my friend and I were seated in the very back by the kitchen and staff area, which was less pleasant).
Read moreOrdered the following:
- Cheese Board: I’ve been eager to experience a cheese board and this passed the test! It tested surprisingly close to real cheese (although the texture was slightly askew). However, $34 seems a bit excessive in terms of price. It came with only 5 small pieces of bread, which was not nearly enough for the entire cheese spread. When we asked for extra bread, they brought us a small basket of crackers but then charged us $12, which seemed unreasonable and not worth the price.
- Wild Mushroom & Truffle Croquettes: pretty good but not super exciting or memorable
- Truffle Shrimp Ravioli: smells and tastes super fishy!! If you like the taste of fish, then you’ll likely enjoy this. But as someone who has been a nearly lifelong vegetarian/vegan, I could barely finish one bite.
Likely won’t be going back (unless I’m in a cheese board mood) because it’s very fake meat heavy

This restraint It’s perfect for a date — very romantic, with a beautiful space. I do think the portions are quite small for the price, but the food is delicious. The salmon actually tastes like real salmon, so if you like seafood, I definitely recommend ordering it.

A bit underwhelming - Edit
We had dinner at Le Basque, and unfortunately, it did not quite meet our expectations.
Read moreThe dishes were good, but not exceptional. We started with the pâté served with brioche (the condiment in the middle was a bit disappointing). The beef bourguignon and the steak were good but somewhat heavy. On the other hand, the dessert was excellent (hazelnut entremets).
The restaurant setting is very pleasant and intimate. However, the service needs improvement (not much explanation of the dishes, servers not very warm or well organized, and no coat check offered).
Overall, I find the prices too high for the quality of the restaurant. I had better meals and services for a much lower price.

Haha it’s so silly you could think I’ve yet to visit and worship all your other restaurants. I had dinner at Willow last night. We stopped in before the theater at Little Island running a bit late. I will rage about the gentleman who seated and served as much as the delicious food. Because we were in a rush, we split the beet and avo tartar, my son then had the French dip and I had the mushroom burger and then we got the 2 recommended for travel desserts to go the praline dome and the coconut yuzu dome. Honestly I wasn’t so excited about the desserts but they were both AMAZING. The whole meal was DELICIOUS and the service impeccable so thank you. Love Sentir. Only been once but was blown away by its deliciousness I feel like it’s a hidden gem. We were going to go for my bday in a few weeks but since Le Basque sent a lovely come visit us again email I made us a resy there. We celebrated my oldest son’s bday at Anixi and oh mine with my sister last year. Been there several times. And Coletta sigh I love her and she is a close second to Le B, she was first until Le B came along. I haven’t been to Reverie yet. It’s in Brooklyn aval I’m going w my sister for my bday in a few weeks. Sorry to be gushy but you deserve it!

We had an excellent time! The food and service (Shoutout to Will!) was amazing. We had the escargot, the salmon rilletes, the mushroom paella and the Entremet aux Noisettes (choc cake dessert which was so good). We were blown away by everything! Our favorite savory was the salmon appetizer- it truly tasted like salmon and came with an egg that tasted like egg! We also had a chance to speak with the owner on our way out and he was very kind and friendly. He has several restaurants (can’t wait to go to the others!)

We came for brunch and tried the mushroom quiche, salmon caviar toast, and savory breakfast crepe. Every bite was heavenly. 🥰 I don’t know what traditional hollandaise tastes like but it was very good on the salmon caviar toast. Really impressive vegan salmon and the sourdough too was 👌👌👌. The quiche had so much flavor, it was easily the best we’ve ever had. Then the crepe absolutely stole the show. I will dream about it. Lots of choices and tasty food - Edit
Dedicated vegan restaurants for French or Spanish food are rare so I was delighted to come across La Basque and even more pleased to find that there were so many dishes to choose from. In fact if I had not been ravenous but spent more time perusing the menu, I might have ordered something else. I had the "escargot" (made with mushrooms) and the Jerusalem artichokes aka sunchokes, which were both tasty but there were many other dishes which sounded even better. If I visit NYC again, I think I'd definitely like to come here again and try some of them.

Superb and Elegant Vegan Fine Dining - Edit
Le Basque is an absolute gem in the heart of Manhattan; an elegant, international vegan restaurant that delivers an exceptional fine dining experience from start to finish. The ambiance is sophisticated yet welcoming, with warm lighting, refined decor, and subtle aromas that immediately signal you are in somewhere special.
Read moreFrom the very beginning, we were blown away by the incredible service. Manager Freddie was the epitome of professionalism, gracious, warm, and attentive to every detail. Bartender Jairo created some of the most stunning and inventive cocktails we have ever had, with a level of artistry that matched the beauty and depth of the dishes.
The internationally inspired vegan menu is nothing short of exquisite. The pâté selection was rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced, served with house-made bread that was both delicate and satisfying. For dessert, the hazelnut creation was breathtaking, both visually and flavor-wise, it was a perfect harmony of textures and tastes, with just the right touch of sweetness.
The cocktail list is just as refined, featuring seasonal ingredients and global influences. Each drink was crafted with precision and a unique twist, especially the Vive Le Vie, which was refreshing, elegant, and unforgettable, and the spirit free Pecan and Piña, which was not only sophisticated and light, but also refreshing and a pleasure to the eye.
Notably, Le Basque is also kosher certified, which adds an extra layer of integrity and care to their already thoughtful offerings. It’s rare to find a restaurant that combines ethical, plant-based cuisine with such sophistication, and this place does it flawlessly.

Superb meal I shared with two nonvegans who also agreed this was one of the best meals they had. The service was impeccable. The ambiance lush and understated. A superb experience all around. All the meats are made in house, ingredients are fresh and top quality. There’s an incredible choice of dishes.
