Incredible Vegan Roast

The food was amazing 👏🏾 I didn't want the meal to end! It was the first time I'd had a Yorkshire pudding since becoming vegan over 5 years ago. The only slight negative I have is that it was quite dark in there. I'm going back for my birthday 🎂

Hiya, i was just wondering, do you know the rest of the time the kitchen is not a takeover, do they cook meat in the kitchen do you know? Thanks!

Best vegan roast in London

Amazing flavours, good portion size and friendly staff. The "pork crackling" is especially tasty, could eat a whole plate of it! Always a special treat

Pros: Great flavours , Big portion sizes, All vegan

Cons: Some tables very low lit/loud, Must book in advance

Vegan Roast @ LD's.

Upon arrival at our reservation time, we were greeted by a member of staff and shown to our seats. The waiter arrived soon afterwards with menus. We order drinks and our mains. We did not wait long for our food to arrive. Both mains were really nice and I'd highly recommend this.

My only gripe is that the food wasn't that hot. Nonetheless, it was still good.

If you like alternative or grunge, then you'll like the decor 👌🏼.

Pros: Decor, Atmosphere, Friendly staff.

Wings Wednesday

Tried the £2 per wing Wings Wednesday deal - they were all tasty but the buffalo and black heart special sauce were spicy!! 🥵 Favourite was the maple mustard. It's quite loud and dark, so not the best place if you want to chat. Will go back to try the Sunday Roast!

Fabulous Vegan roast dinner

Nestled in a little side street of London is an unassuming pub Restaurant with great ales and the amazing LD's Kitchen making fabulous Vegan food that is as creative as it is delicious.

On Sundays there's a choice of roast dinners that come fully loaded with all the great trimmings like Yorkshire pudding roast tatties and veg and a choice between Southern fried Chicken, "beef" and pork with a vegan crackling that was a neat touch.

We thoroughly enjoyed what we had and would go back again.

Delicious

Great roast, had so many treats and different flavours in one dish! Veg cooked perfectly, nice and crunchy, gravy was great, loved every bite. Vey authentic! It’s definitely the real deal. Very authentic!

Pros: Everything

Cons: Personally I prefer the potatoes more crispy

Best meal I had on my UK vacation

I ate at most of the Happy Cow top tiered restaurants in Edinburgh and London over the course of 2 weeks and this was the best vegan meal I had. Simple-ish and at the same time not, either way it was so well executed. I had the mock chicken roast on Sunday and it felt akin to a well prepared thanksgiving back home in the states. I should point out that I had some incredible meals from other places, so I consider this very high praise. Well done guys, hope you’re around when I return to London.

Pros: Food…what else, Value, Quality

Cons: Ambience may be to some peoples distaste (not me)

Fabulous Sunday roasts

Husband had vegan pork roast with amazing crackling, and my vegan chicken with 'skin' was really tasty. Loads of veggies, with Yorkshire pudding and gravy - made us both very happy!

Pros: All vegan Sunday roasts , Friendly , Music was background level but classic rock

Outstanding Roast Lunch. BUT…

This is quite possibly the best vegan Sunday roast in London. We ordered Roast Mocken Breast and Beef Style Steak with garlic and sage butter. There were 4 roasts all priced at £18 to choose from and they all come with the same sides of Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes (which were perfectly crispy) and a selection of veg and a jug of gravy. The flavour of everything was excellent!
But what massively let down the entire experience at LD Kitchen was the time it took for our food to arrive. We waited 50 minutes and when I followed up with the bar staff after 35 minutes I was advised that it usually takes anything between 30-45 minutes!?! We were one of the early tables booked and they only serve roast on a Sunday, no other menu, so to expect to wait 45 minutes or longer for our order to arrive doesn’t make sense? There were at least two other tables that were following up with the same issue. If there was a problem in the kitchen then this could have been easily articulated by the staff to customers and people would most likely understand (I certainly would have). But to have no communication and to wait so long just isn’t cool.
Whilst I enjoyed the food I am very apprehensive to recommend this place to anyone based on this experience.

Pros: Amazing roast lunch

Cons: Wait time for food

A Gem!

Had the Roast Mocken Breast from the menu and it could have been anything as it all looked delicious.. Can’t praise it enough, so tasty. Had some non vegans tried it and they were blown away how tasty it was too.

Pros: The staff , The Food , The Ales

Cons: Lack of good tables , The mood (was Quiet) , Location (hard to see as was in a side street)

Banging roast

Roast here always slaps, feels like so much thought has gone into each element of it. I had the tofu pork belly and my partner had the mockin chicken.

Great Sunday roast

Loved the Sunday roast. Amazing roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and veg. I had the tofu ‘pork’ as I avoid meat subs and it was delicious. My OH had the chicken and loved it. The portion size was huge!! Best roast I’ve had.
The Black Heart is a bit scuzzy but the food is worth it.

Pros: Yorkshire puddings , Portion size , Delicious

Saturday brunch and Sunday roast

Updating review to add Saturday brunch: The multi-component Grand Slam brunch is great! Love the tater tots, scramble, beans, pickles and more. The pancakes were a bit thin and tough, but maple syrup helps! Big meal.
Sunday roast: Nice large meal. Choice of three main dishes - vegan chicken, pork or beef, two being based on VWG (vital wheat gluten, or seitan). Good sauces on the “meats,” and a jug of good gravy. The Yorkshire pudding was good; I especially liked the chopped greens/leeks; the carrots could have used one more minute of cooking.
Selection of local beers on tap. Wine and cider available, as well as a few side dishes and a couple of desserts.
Friendly service. Unisex loos upstairs.
Entrance to the pub is the door just past the door that says “2” - there is no signage, other than the big black heart hanging above.

Classic roasts in a cool environment

I would recommend booking an early spot so you have the full number of options. The staff were friendly and I thought the vibe of the place was cool. The roasts overall were really nice with the stars being the veggies. I thought the mains were just fine but nothing amazing, we had the steak and the roast mocken (I had ordered fried but they must have miss heard, but was keen to try none the less). The truffle cauliflower was really nice! Overall a nice experience but still searching for the best roast in London.

It's quite an experience in every sense

It's a rock pub. If you're not of this demographic, you will stick out. No-one else seems to care, though I was a bit self-conscious about it.

We went for Sunday roast at £18 each, we arrived at 4.30pm - there was a table with our time on it. I think they have one table reservation per 15 minutes. At this time, most roast options were gone - we could only have the fried chicken or the kinda slimy chicken, so we had one of each. Service from the food staff was lovely, but the bar staff seemed a bit sneery that we weren't "one of them".

It took about 35 minutes from ordering for our food to arrive.

The roast potatoes were outstanding - the best I've had in decades. Like the lard-cooked ones of my youth, breaking your teeth trying to bite into them. The gravy too, absolutely incredible. And the two (two!) carrots were delicious.

The actual main feature was a bit meh for me - was mine "mocken"? - felt too fatty and weird - my partner's deep-fried was better, though no better than the nearby Temple Of Seitan. And a lot of the veggies kinda slimed into each other. I had great hopes for the Yorkshire pudding, but it was a bit soggy and uncooked in the bottom.

We had the truffle cauliflower cheese - it was OK but nothing special, quite small (you can see photos elsewhere demonstrating this), and nowhere near worth £6.50.

Portions were huge, and it's a massive amount of fat and carbs to consume in one sitting. My partner was loving it... then started heaving... then went and threw a load of it up - for eating it too quickly. But he still considers it a great experience.

They don't take AmEx - £55 for lunch and a pint for two, but they're behaving like a bargain basement. Just pay the AmEx fees FFS.

And yet I'd still go again, earlier so I could try the pork that apparently always sells out, and maybe on Saturday for the brunch too. Wing Wednesday at £2 a wing is double the price of Neat Burger's excellent Wing Wednesday at £1 a wing, so I guess that will have to be left to others.

Tasty

Although not my usual more healthy fare, this place filled a void with some tasty vegan junk food at a decent price for London. Portion size was good too.

Pros: Price and portion , Location

Cons: Noisy and dark in the seating

Delicious roast!

We came here on a Sunday to try their roast and it was delicious! We got the Roast Mocken Breast and Roast 'Pork Tofu Belly' & Cracklin', which both came with vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding. We also shared a side of Truffled Cauliflower Cheeze. All the food was really tasty with a great range of flavours and textures. The meat substitutes were both very tasty although I personally preferred the Mocken Breast to the Tofu Belly as I felt it had more texture and flavour. The vegetables were all really tasty, especially the greens which were just so good and one of my favourite parts of the whole meal! The Yorkshire pudding was also excellent with a delicious flavour and lovely soft texture - it's definitely one of the best vegan Yorkshire puddings I've tried if not the best! The roast potatoes were also lovely and crispy and the gravy was thick and delicious. The cauliflower cheese was also really delicious.

The staff were also really friendly and attentive and we really enjoyed our visit!

Better Chicken than Temple of Seitan.

Would highly recommend eating here, best vegan chicken I've tried, better than Temple of Seitan (which is nearby).

The wings had a great coating, nice and crispy and knobbly as you want it, the spice to the coating has a great depth of flavour, pretty authentic southern fried taste. The texture of the chicken was outstanding, with some sort of skin used which was a real standout.
The texture of the chicken for the wings and the chicken topping for the mac and dirty fires was different which was a refreshing change.
The fries, maccaroni and tater tots were all of very high quality.

Update 09/10/2023 - I've been here another two times now, the second time was so very very loud we could barely hear ourselves speak sat right next to each other, they even messed our order up cos it was too loud, I know it's a rock bar and I'm into this music but it was silly loud and not a good vibe for trying to get some food, I'm removing a star because of it, in the future I doubt I'll try and get food here in the evening unless I'm going to a gig there.

Having said that we came back a third time for the roast and it was one of the best roasts that I've had in a restaurant, highly recommended, a little surprising but the veg was the star of the show, perhaps the best roast potatoes not cooked by my mum or partner, this was a sunday lunchtime and it was much quieter and nicer.

Amazing Brunch

The Saturday Brunch was so good, fluffy waffles, even fluffier pancakes, perfectly cooked THIS Bacon, lovely tots, scrambled tofu and beans - and the Chickn, wow, possibly the best fried chickn I've had - would come back for it alone. Amazing beer menu too with gluten free, alcohol free and an excellent range, all on tap. The staff were super friendly and energetic too and it is dog and family friendly - what more could you want, get down there!

Vegan roast and rock

Best vegan Sunday roast I've had. I had the meat and my partner the chicken. The chicken was tastier but I didn't like the texture.
Great music and variety of beers
