Too much salt and expensive - Edit

If you like salt, this is the place to be.
Sorry but all the ingredients were too salty. I felt salt in my mouth 3 hours After.
It was expensive for what it was served

Pros: Welcome of the owner Music

Cons: Too much salt Expensive for what it was

lbkcraft 02 Oct 2017 - Please read the other 18 glowing reviews we have received to understand how we find this review so bizarre and well off-base. "Sorry but all the ingredients were too salty"? So why didn't you say ANYTHING about it on our numerous visits to your seat to ask if everything was okay? Why would anyone eat numerous dishes that made them them feel "salt in [their] mouth for 3-hours after" and not at least comment to the staff? We get regular requests for dish alterations to suit diners' needs (spicier, sweeter, no onions, more mild, gluten-free, etc.) and we do our best to accommodate when given the opportunity to make things right. If you were so miserable, why not say something? And expensive for what was served? Our menu with prices and photographs is available 1) on our street display 2) in our display case out front 3) on the table at the entrance 4) on the menu we present you 5) on other restaurant review sites and 6) on our website. All of it in English, Japanese, and Chinese. Perhaps more than any other restaurant you'll find in Japan (or most anywhere else), we are completely open and transparent about our dishes, ingredients, sizes, prices, and more. In other words, a person would have to ignore all of that information in all of its forms, to still choose to dine with us and be in any way surprised at what they got for the price they paid. We are thankful to all the visitors who have found us through Happy Cow, and we look forward to serving many more who wish to find, "amazing food with vegan options, craft beer, sake...and more!"

Amazing - Edit

This is truly an amazing place despite the fact that they serve animals. The vegan options outnumber the meat options, the food is delicious, and best of all the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. If I'm ever down in the Kyoto/Nara area again I will do everything in my power to eat here again!

Pros: unique, delicious meals, friendly staff

This place is great!!! Majority of menu is vegan and the owner Bob, and his wife are more than happy to go through everything with you. Heaps of great craft beers too and lovely to chat with Bob about veggie life in Japan, sumo and ramen! Would highly recommend.

Hands down best veg food in Japan! - Edit

These guys pull together an amazing vegan, veg and non veg menu from their own garden, and source other ingredients locally.
A real japanese flavour for those who have struggled to find authentic veg food while travelling, and even for those omni's out there, a very welcome vitamin boost!
Cannot recommend highly enough!

Wonderful Izakaya - Edit

As others have said, it's a shame this place cannot be rated 5 stars. The name LBK comes from the 3 main people behind the place, and they are all very friendly and dedicated. The menu is mainly vegan, and those options are clearly marked. Certain dishes are prepare with vegetables grown on their own farm. Given how quiet the place was, I was blown away with the quality of the food, from the curries to the tenpura and the tofu steak. Great selection of craft beer too. One of the best places I ate in Japan.

A must try in Nara - Edit

I have been here twice and had amazing food on both occasions. They have so many good vegan options, I found it hard to choose. I tried their vegan ramen, the eringi mushroom dish and miso vegetables, and they were all so delicious. The owners and the service is great, and they have a great selection of local sake and craft beer. Definitely check this place out in Nara!

Pros: So many vegan and vegetarian options (with lots of, Local sake and craft beer, Great owner and service

Deserves 5 stars! - Edit

This cute restaurant was a perfect find after a long day in the Nara park. The owners are kind, inviting and completely get what a vegan is. One of the owners hails from my home state so it was fun catching up. Food is traditional Japanese and SO tasty. Loved every moment as, even though we are vegan, we want to experience the culture.

Great food and company! - Edit

It's hard to find vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurants in Japan (especially ones that my non-veggie boyfriend enjoys) and this was a great find! Great food with lots of options for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters and great company. The owner and his wife will tell you all they can about the foods, the place and the drinks they serve and will recommend also good shops for purchasing items you might come to enjoy (i.e. Sake). Overall, a fantastic experience!

would give 5 stars if i could - Edit

As it is not only vegan food it won't allow me to give 5 stars but the spinach, cashew nut and chick pea curry i just had was spicy and amazingly delicious. The eggplant covered in miso sauce to start with was equally tasty. Nara doesn't have many vegan places but this must be on your list if you visit. Friendly place and owners. Large vegan selection.

Pros: large vegan selection, friendly place and owners

Deserves 5*! - Edit

Although they serve meat, the menu is extensively vegan. It is worth the struggle of being a vegetarian in Japan just to eat here! We had the special curry and the fried tofu. We enjoyed the food so much that we ordered the miso-glazed eggplant as well despite being full! Would eat here every night if I could!

Awesome!! - Edit

The vegan menu was huge and had very original dishes. It's tapas style, but they have some main dishes as well. The rations were very generous and delicious, the price was affordable. The staff was really friendly and knew a lot about Japanese food and local drinks. They also have some original drinks, very recommendable! We had a great time altogether and would love to come back!

Pros: Lots of vegan options Really friendly staff, Location and atmosphere

Cons: No desserts (yet! They say they're working on

5 Stars, Great Experience - Edit

I would give this place 5 stars if I could.

From start to finish the staff were very friendly and keen to strike up conversation. When we entered we were greeted in English and asked our dietary requirements. They have both bar and table seating options. Our waiter suggested we start with a drink while we looked over the menu and went on to explain the craft beer selection in detail which was a nice touch. The menu itself had lots of options for vegan and vego food. I highly rate this place on vegan and vego options alone. The atmosphere is relaxed, and with a few TVs on the wall, and nice place to chill out. Our waiter introduced himself and his team to us and told us about the area, Nara. Overall a great experience and I would recommend to anyone in the area.

Deserves 5 stars but HC said no - Edit

It's hard to find a restaurant in Japan with so many vegan options and such good beer, but this restaurant has all that and more. The prices were reasonable for such artisanal food, and we even had some dishes that were wild gathered. Do yourself a favor and eat here!

Pros: Local and Wild Gathered Food, Rotating Craft Beers and Foods, Amazing Food, Good Price

Awesome restaurant - Edit

Don't miss this place if you're visiting Nara! Delicious food, PLENTY of vegan options, great beer selection and lovely staff!
Only reason I did't give this place five stars is that HappyCow doesn't let me give five stars to a just "veg-friendly" place.

Pros: English menu, Credit card accepted
