Really enjoyed the vegan breakfast sandwich! I would love to see more flavor/seasoning on the tofu, but overall it was very good. I also got a slushie- such fun flavors!

We ordered take out, the vegan breakfast sandwich and LB bowl. Both good, fresh and clean tasting. Street parking was easy for pickup.

Cute Cafe - Edit
They have a decent amount of options but I think they could do a better job at labeling what is vegan. I really enjoyed the kale Caesar but the vegan breakfast sandwich lacked flavor. The tofu wasn’t seasoned well but the sauce on it was yummy. I didn’t love the bread it was on either. I’d still eat here again!

So many options in the cafe and the mini mart. Ingredients are fresh and I love that all the baked goods were vegan friendly and many grab n go food and snacks were vegan.

I’d give them 5 stars. I got the vegan breakfast sandwich, which came out within 10 minutes and was delicious. Portland clearly knows about how good the food is because there was a very steady flow of customers. Staff are super friendly, too.

Best vegan food in Portland - Edit
LB Kitchen snuck into first place as best vegan restaurant in Portland, Maine, and it’s not even fully vegan. At first glance, they may come across as a basic fast casual cafe that offers espresso drinks, kale caesar salads to go, and a few cookies. BUT they are so much more. Our intrigue grew as we flipped through every page of the menu. You can’t go wrong with breakfast, brunch, lunch, or bakery items. We started by pitting the bircher (overnight oats) against the hot oatmeal in a porridge playoff of sorts. The overnight oats came out ahead with their generous dousing of peanut butter and the incredible blueberry compote. The hot sweet oats were doing a lot with poached pear, orange zest, and toasted almonds, but they were a tiny bit on the watery side and could have been served in a larger bowl (lol). We hugely appreciated that they had a vegan version of the goldenmilk pancakes. These were unique and tasty and packed with blueberries. On the savory side, the vegan breakfast sandwich was dressed to impress. Probably the world’s only healthy vegan breakfast sandwich (lightly grilled tofu, carrot bacon, and arugula served on sprouted whole grain bread). Epic.
Read moreWe were so thrilled with the breakfast that we returned for lunch the same day(!) albeit a late lunch, since that breakfast filled us up. Their bowls and salads are mostly awesome macrobiotic type options. The green on grain was soo good (especially with the addition of house pickled vegetables!) as was the chickpea curry bowl.
The baked goods: innovative and consistently delicious. The peanut butter oat cake was decadent and incredible. The oatmeal raisin cookie almost brought tears to our eyes. I would have appreciated an ultra healthy option like a granola bar or an oil-free cookie, but you can’t have everything.
The drinks: the coffee was very good. The chai latte was great, and the golden milk latte was even better. We wouldn’t have minded if they added some kombucha to their fridge :)
The staff also deserve a special mention for being not only friendly but also very knowledgeable and accommodating about all of our questions a preferences. It’s always a good sign when the staff has tried and liked the food they are serving.
LB Kitchen’s chefs are clearly culinary experts. I’m not sure why they are holding onto the few items made with bacon, eggs, and cheese, when their vegan items are delicious enough to impress and satisfy any vegan or non-vegan.
Pros: Best overnight oats ever, Delicious healthy savory bowls, Incredible vegan breakfast sandwich
Cons: They still annoyingly have several items with meat, They close early - 5pm

Decent - Edit
The vegan breakfast sandwich with pickles was good and relatively unique. The cranberry bread was lackluster but it was also gluten-free so there's only so much you can do at that point. I wish they had a few more options but for Portland, it's a good find

Fine - Edit
The golden milk pancakes were more gingerbread than turmeric flavored. With all the spices, they were quite dry and could have used 2x the vegan butter to taste good. The breakfast sandwich and coffee were also a let down. Probably would not return.

Expensive and just okay - Edit
Had an ok experience here. I got That Vegan Bowl and the house chai. The first ingredient listed on the menu in the bowl is rice, and they accidentally didn't put any in mine. But the tofu was perfect and the pesto had an amazing flavor. The chai was not great, despite the variety of spices listed as included in it, it was pretty bland.
Read moreMy mom got the vegan breakfast sandwich and the caramel coconut latte. The sandwich was yummy but a little hard to eat since the carrot bacon was not soft and the sandwich was a bit tall. The caramel coconut latte was delicious and probably our favorite thing out of all we ordered
It's also very expensive for what it is, everything we got was over $45, which is a little much for a cafe.
It was fine, but for the price I wouldn't go back.
Pros: Some good flavors
Cons: Expensive , Missing ingredients

Heavenly! - Edit
I had the golden milk pancakes, a vegan caramel latte, and the purple rain smoothie for breakfast here. I loved it so much that we went back for lunch to get the chickpea curry with vegan crème fraiche. Breakfast was better than lunch, but I loved all of my food! I’d recommend adding tofu to the curry if you get it… without it, it was a little slim on the chickpeas.

Slammin' Vegan Breakfast Sandwich! - Edit
On this morning that I'm checking out of the Black Elephant Hostel in Portland, I find that someone swiped the remaining Vegan Donuts I had in the Community fridge 🤔 No matter, they were probably too stale to really enjoy by today anyway. So, I head on over to LB Kitchen which was recommended to me, specifically to try out their Vegan Breakfast Sandwich. I also ordered a Maple Spiced Latte, which is Vegan when one requests a plant-based milk - my go-to is Oat Milk. Both were delicious and hit the spot perfectly 🥰- WAY better than a stale (even if it IS Vegan) donut, anyway!
Read moreIf not for the fact that this place is most definitely NOT exclusively Vegan (I see bone broth on the menu - ewwwww!) I would have given them at least 4.5 or 5 stars.
Odd thing about Portland, ME: while there don't seem to be any venues that are 100% Vegan, I was never made to feel awkward, excluded or any of the other thousands of adjectives we Vegans have surely experienced elsewhere. I got a very welcoming, "accepted" vibe here - I just wish they'd take down all the BLM signs I see on almost every block - that organization proved to be a huge fraud, and anyway All LIFE Matters!
P.S. Also took an Oatmeal Raisin cookie to go for the Amtrak journey back to Boston (Veggie Galaxy, here I come! 😋)

Amazing and delicious food! - Edit
While on a recent trip to Portland, my partner and I stopped at LB Kitchen for breakfast. At the time, the vegan breakfast sandwich sounded like the ideal fit for this particularly foggy day. Little did I expect, I would eat one of the best sandwiches I have EVER had in my life!! I don't say these words lightly. The vegan breakfast sandwich was the right balance of sweet, savory and creamy - a sandwich to truly enjoy. Outside of the sandwich, I also tried a drink they had with cacao, mushroom, and coffee, which was original and a perfect complement to my breakfast sandwich. Definitely recommend LB Kitchen!!
