Great vegan option for Santiago! - Edit
This place was a nice change to have vegan-specific food labeled. We had a bunch of snacks - yucca fries, lentil “chicken” nuggets, & veggie dumplings. They were all tasty and for a good value. I appreciate the attentiveness to veganism for this little restaurant! Would come back and recommend.

Nice spot - Edit
I was so happy to find this place while visiting Santiago! The owners were very friendly and when I told them I was vegan I was shown a very large selection of meals to choose from! They even have pizza with vegan cheese! I had the lentil burger which was quite good, I do think however that it was pretty expensive for what it was.

fun option on this side of the lake - Edit
Neat little spot. I didn't find it quite as vegan-friendly as the last two reviewers, but it's still one of the best options in Santiago. Had some nachos with guacamole and a very tasty veggie burrito with fried tofu. Just make sure to clearly explain to the owner what you need and she will cater to you; looking at the menu, it will seem like a meatier place than it really is.
Read moreThe setting is really quite lovely... don't be put off by the vague address, just start walking towards Bambu and you'll see it on the right hand side. Friendly owner and some neat products as well. Recommended!
Pros: plenty of veg options, great setting, friendly owner
Cons: still a mostly meat-oriented restaurant

Vegan Atitlan - Edit
I believed that it was going to be almost impossible to maintain my diet while in Guatemala. However, Las Lagartijas saved me during my visit to Santiago Atitlan. They went out of their way to cater to my needs, even assisting me with non-food related matters.
Read moreOne usually has to be very careful about eating raw fruits and vegetables in a developing country, but it was not an issue at Las Lagartijas due to the preparatory care that was taken. They offer "Tipico" options, as well as non-traditional products.
Pros: Tasty, Friendly
Cons: Hours of Operation

Excellent vegan food in Santiago - Edit
This little place is the perfect lunch spot. The owners are great, and they've really made an effort to cater to vegetarians. If you're in Santiago Atitlan, don't miss it.
Read moreOver the past couple years, since I've been eating there, they've added several vegan options. My favorites are the taco salad with tofu (ask to have it made vegan), and the eggplant torta. They also have an excellent veggie burger. Wash it all down with some of their homemade ginger ale.
The service is excellent (not too common around here), and the food is very fresh.
They have a small store with a number of homemade jams, pickles, relish, peanut butter, and some of the best hot sauces around.
Pros: excellent food, good value, great people
Cons: very small
