Famous street food - Edit
Happy to see a vegan friendly night market food stall for once. And it's popular! White rice or purple rice mochi doughnut, deep fried.

Pretty cheap!
At first I liked it, but it gets a bit much after about halfway through...
maybe share one with a friend!
It reminded me of some 'vegan fish' brands...
but, overall it was good and i would get it again!
Pros: Cheap, Freshly cooked, Night market experience
Cons: Too chewy, Not much flavour

Not really for me - Edit
I was quite excited going here especially since I saw the long line which to me indicated this was quite a popular outlet. I tried both the black and the white sugar fried bun. The taste wasn't really there for me and it was too gooey at the same time. But perhaps you will like it, only 15-20 TWD a piece so might be worth the try. Payment was only in cash.

Nice little snack - Edit
Whilst strolling over Lingya Night market we bought both versions of the rice cake. Peanut and black sesame. Can recommend both of them!
Read moreThe stall is right in front of the Family mart on the Main Street of the market. The stall itself looks a little different now but seems the options remained the same.

Vegan junk food - Edit
Night markets can be challenging to eat at since the vast majority of vendors are not veg*n-friendly. It also usually feels like the ones that are sell pretty much all the same stuff: stinky tofu, fried mushrooms, green onion pancakes, sweet potato balls, etc. Nothing ever seems hyper-local and special.
Read moreUntil I found this stand! I learned that white sugar rice cakes are a traditional Kaohsiung dessert, and I’d never had it at any other night market. They’re super affordable (NT$15 each), and the only decision you need to make is what flavor of white sugar you want your freshly fried rice cake to be coated in: peanut or black sesame. They taste perfect piping hot out of the fryer, and the black sesame fragrance was divine.
You might see a line, but it moves quickly: that’s the good thing about visiting a vendor that’s been around for 50 years of built up experience.
BYO container to be extra eco-friendly!
Pros: traditional dessert, experienced vendor, affordable
