Streamlined, Decadent Food. Kind Staff.

If you're willing to take the bus or GrabTaxi to this place, it'll be well worth it. I visited in April 2019, before recent events, so I'm writing this from memory.

Since this Lanmadaw Restaurant is away from the city center, you'll be sure to enjoy a quiet meal. I remember that many of the dishes were Burmese-Chinese and family style, and likely Buddhist-inspired too, since it is attached to a temple.

Vegan Backpacker

We spent the day at the US Embassy and decided to give this place a go afterwards. Having traveled through Vietnam we have had dozens of these mock meats and to be honest these weren't all too impressive. We ordered 'chicken' wings, Kung pao, bacon, sausage all at 3500k each without rice (which we weren't told that). It was nothing to write home about. The sausage pieces were the highlight.

Pros: Mock meats can be fun sometimes

Cons: Value wasn't really there. Rice additional 1000k

Location

Bit tricky to find, but the restaurant is actually inside the Chinese temple complex (which is next to the Novotel). Just walk through the temple gate and keep to your left. You'll see the sign "Vegetarian Restaurant" above the door.

Simple but great food

Really enjoyed the food. Quite local experience. The place is clean and spacious but a little out of the way. Service was fine, some English. Menu doesn't have prices but I asked and pricing was explained, then the bill reflected this. So no problem. Recommended if in the area!

Pros: Tasty, Affordable

Cons: Remote

Lunch

Humble place and nice staff however they don't speak English but English menu is available. They offer a wide variety of vegan dishes. It's very cheap.

Cons: very cheap.

good food, unclear pricing

The staff doesn't speak English but they have their menu translated on separate sheets of paper (see pictures) with no prices on. All the prices on Burmese menu were either 2000 or 3000 kyat. I ordered "Veg good luck chicken" and got charged 3800 kyat, not really knowing why. The food was good - seitan in tomato sauce.

Pros: quiet place

Cons: unclear pricing
