Serves meat, vegan options available. Only meat served is fish, otherwise food is vegetarian and vegan. The cold salad bar at lunch time features prepared vegetable salads and noodle salads; the hot table features main entrees. Beverages are extra, except pitchers of filtered tap water. At dinner there's an Indian thali plate plus tofu, pizza, and other foods. Owner speaks English. Located in an ancient cloister with a flowered terrace. SEP 2016 REPORTED SHUT - REPLACED BY ANOTHER RESTAURANT.

A find in a town with poor options

A lovely restaurant in a beautiful old building with a delightful interior design. The location is easily accessible in the Ville Basse (the main part of town), just a few blocks from the pedestrian Rue Georges Clemenceau and the central Place Carnot.

We had the lunch plates (pay by the size of the plate, and they fill it out generously). The price was comparable to many pay-by-weight veggie buffets in European cities, and probably a bit cheaper than them. Every single thing we had was delicious, and a lot of the options were very healthy too. The staff were acutely conscious of vegan/vegetarian differences, and I believe several items were vegan.

Yes, they do serve non-veg food, but they say it's due to lack of choice: it's hard to survive as a pure veg place in Carcassonne. So, cut them some slack, and give them your business. Most food options in Carcassonne are so unappealing and generic that this may well be one of the very best restaurants in town.

The staff are supremely friendly, and one of them speaks excellent English, for those for whom that sort of thing is an issue.

As of this writing (July 2013), they did lunch and dinner every day (including Sunday? not sure) with the sole exception of dinner on Monday.

Pros: good buffet, tasty and healthy, lovely location and staff

Very disappointing

France is a tough place for vegetarians, especially in smaller cities, so iI was really happy to hear about this place. I was determined to like it and ignored the warning signs - buffet that had obviously been sitting there for awhile and disinterested wait staff. So I had the warm buffet, which tasted of old oil, leaving a very bad after taste. You may get tired of the meager options at most restaurants in France, but l'Amandier is not the answer.

Organic restaurant

We had a great thali plate and indonesian dish. The staff is nice and friendly. Little plate of crackers with our appetizers (great walnut wine for me !). We arrived quite early so the service was a bit slow ; gave us time to enjoy the warm atmosphere - and see the rabit wander in the garden ! A bit pricy because everything is organic.

Pros: rabbit in the garden, organic
