Fantastic lunch!!

The best lunch in Trenton!! Thank you for the delicious food and fully vegan menu. I had the special, a chili stuffed sweet potato with a side salad. The ladies behind the counter were delightful, happy we stopped in for the amazing vegan food at the Farmers Market!!

Fresh, local, heathy, GF!

This place deserves its own building! Such wonderfully kind and friendly staff, looking to please and share smiles. I got the sweet potato special, and Curry Potato dish with sauces on the side. So wonderful having fresh food, minimal oil, local ingredients, and no fake or processed foods (just not my thing.) Love that everything is gluten free. And exciting that they are experimenting with date sugar to start offering healthier baked goods. Cute little eating area where they set up a few tables tucked away from the flow of market goers. I recommend bringing your own fork for the most enjoyable experience (it’s what I do!)

Pros: Gluten free, Locally sourced, Woman owned

Cons: Can get busy, Can sell out

Fresh Fresh Fresh!

I have literally watched the owners walk down the hallway to Russo’s to buy their produce. So you know it’s all Jersey local(or as local as can be)! The food here is absolutely delicious and fresh!
Unfortunately unless you are used to eating this way (WFPB) you will walk away still hungry or very bloated.

Great Breakfast!

One of 2 fully vegan restaurants at the Trenton’s Farmers Market. They specialize in chickpeas, potatoes and air-fried tofu. Give it a shot if you’re around! Also one of the few places with vegan breakfast food.

Not to be missed!!!!

If you are in the area, lady and the shallot is not to be missed. I know that most vegan restaurants will get five stars simply because they are vegan restaurants, and believe me, there’s nothing wrong with doing that! It’s wonderful going to a vegan restaurant regardless of whether you consider it a 10 or a 9 or an 8. However, this place is different, it is truly a cut above the rest. All of the food is homemade. There is nothing on this menu that is processed. The food is abundant, creative, beautiful, and tasty. It is in an unusual space and designed beautifully, very fun and funky the way it is all set up. They took a space that could be considered drab, and turned it into something really interesting and unique and beautiful. I came here with a non-vegan and he thought that it was great. I will absolutely be back and hope that you will check it out if you have not yet done so.

Pros: Homemade, Creative menu, Abundant portions

Wish it was better

Sorry to be harsh, but I don't think the food is executed well here.
It's so basic, little things are important like the way the vegetables are chopped.
The first time I tried this place, the food was decent and better prepared.
More recently, the lentil tacos were inedible. So, so bland.

The red cabbage should be sliced finely. The lentil taco needs something acidic in it. The chickpea tacos are a mess - too much of a good thing just results in a bland jumble that should maybe be a salad rather than tacos.

It's awesome that there's a vegan place in/near the farmer's market again (anyone else remember greenlight?), but I wish the food tasted better. Their salads are even hard to eat. They really need to work on their knife skills and put more thought into how vegetables are sliced. I think adding to the menu or changing menu items would be good also. I understand the limitations of being a food stand and being vegan and gluten free, but if the food is basically salads, they kinda have to be perfect.

Gets even better with time

LGBTQ- owned, fully vegan, gluten/nut-free sustainable small business tucked away in our local farmers market. They source most of their ingredients locally and have kicked it up with the flavor in the last year or two. I love supporting them, and the food is wonderful and healthy.

Pros: Locally sourced ingredients, WFPB options, Great service

Clean and seriously delicious food!

Franny and Kate (owners) are some of the greatest and most loving and friendly people you’ll ever meet. The food is crazy good and veggie forward, you feel like you’re having a treat but it’s totally healthy and Whole Foods. I love for the rainbow tacos with sriracha aioli and the dessert pizza with avocado chocolate mousse and fresh fruit. Their infused water and juices are SO REFRESHING AND GOOD. And you get to shop the farmers market after you eat!

Pros: delicious and veggie-forward, Affordable, Owners are wonderful

Innovative, Divine and Kind—Vegan Wonder in N.J.

I live in Princeton, N.J., and learned about this place in March 2020. Previously, I had heard of them but had never had an opportunity to go to Trenton Farmer's Market. Fortunately they started being listed on GrubHub and DoorDash. Since then, I have been ordering on average every week. Princeton, N.J. is a deadzone for vegan restaurants and having such a HIGH QUALITY restaurant available at the call of a button is amazing!

The food is healthy, it is fresh, and it is incredibly SAVORY, with all the flavors (mayo, buffalo, salty, twangy, etc.) that you used to covet from burgers, etc..

The owners, Francesca and Kate, are kind but also amazing because they keep evolving their menu and coming up with new recipes. It's so exciting to have some recipes retired, and others introduced—recently in June 2020, they introduced the "BUFFALO" flavor of tofu scramble: More cooked, with crunchy cabbage and celery, and a buffalo sauce—it is to die for!!!

Besides the "Buffalo" recipe, there is of course their flagship "RAINBOW TACOS": Unusually, these will make you (or your kids) LOVE CABBAGE! And then of course, the "Brekkie Box," the "Tofu Scramble", and the other varieties of tacos—and I always grab a handful of "BREKKIE SPUDS" that keep for up to a week in the refrigerator, for a late night, savory, starchy, salty snack!

All the vegan food is delicious, but wait! It gets better! It is delivered in ENTIRELY SUSTAINABLE packaging: From the paper bag, to the cardboard boxes, to the paper linings (to prevent the boxes from becoming oily and unrecyclable), to the compostable cardboard sauce cups, and utensils. THESE PEOPLE WALK THE TALK!!!

I am so grateful for such an innovative and holistic kitchen. I strongly encourage you to give them a try if you have not already!

Super fresh and friendly

Found this place by chance in the Trenton farm market and the owner struck up a conversion with us. The people working there were super welcoming and the food was great! It felt like almost everything they served was procured that morning from the farm market itself, so everything feels fresh, light, nutritious. Also the prices were pretty good! We were there for Sunday brunch but I’m curious to check out other days’ menus. I got the rainbow tacos spicy-style and the cantaloupe-infused water. 👌👌

Friendly and Delicious Place for Lunch

The Lady and the Shallot is one of our favorite places to go for lunch. The ladies that work there are always really friendly and sweet. The food is delicious and I don’t feel bad after eating it since there are so many fresh veggies in all of the entrees. Sunday brunch is really good. The brekkie tacos are my favorite brunch food and the mushroom cap panini and the sweet shallot flatbread are my favorite items off of the regular menu.

Favorite Lunch Spot

I go here at least once a week for lunch. I love everything I have had so far which is almost the entire menu. They use local produce from the vendors in the farmers market and everything they put their food in is greenware!

Pros: Everything is vegan, Gluten-free & nut-free, Local produce

Cons: Not open everyday

What a gem

Francesca and Kate are friendly and helpful. I am glad I stopped by to try their stand. The stand appeared clean which is important to me. I ordered the Rainbow Tacos and liked them. They are a bit messy to eat, but it’s because chickpeas just tend to roll around and would plop out of any finger food. All the ingredients tasted and looked fresh; Francesca told me their produce comes from the nearby farm. They had other menu items I am exicited to try when I am near Lawrenceville again. The prices were fine; I didn’t find them to be too pricey. And I liked there isn’t a ton of items from which to choose.... the board and menu is easy to understand and lists the ingredients.

Definitely wish these women well and hope their stand lasts for years.

Pros: Easy parking, Friendly owers, Local ingredients

Fresh, Healthy and Friendly

Super fresh veggies served in simple fashion...salads, tacos and wraps. No fancy cooking methods or heavy sauces, so the veggies are really allowed to shine through. Wonderfully healthy, and quite refreshing in my opinion. If I lived closer I'd eat here every day, and prices are reasonable enough that I could. To top it all off, the owners are very friendly and make you feel right at home. Stop here for lunch, you'll be glad you did!

Pros: Friendly staff, Fresh and healthy, Reasonably priced

Cons: Limited hours

Amazing staff, okay food

This place is tucked away but has a nice seating area. I loved the friendly and helpful staff! However, my food was disappointing; the panini was very oily and lacked flavor.
