Exceptional vegan restaurant. Every fish dish amazed us—three visits in a week! Casual, cozy atmosphere and genuinely warm staff. Five stars for taste, variety, and heart.

Lovely vegan place! - Edit
I really enjoyed my time in La Veganesa. The atmosphere was really lovely and the restaurant & all rooms are decorated beautifully! The owners were kind and took time to think with me what dish I may like the most. I had a delicious Peruvian Salat, a Tofu stew and, my absolute Highlight, a mango dessert! I recommend this restaurant, they have a huge variety of vegan dishes, I'd love to come back and try some more of the very delicious food they offer!🩷

The pioneer - Edit
I’ve been visiting Cádiz since the 1990s and remember what a breakthrough La Veganesa was, first as a stall in the Central Market and then as a full restaurant with an extensive menu in the ancient Barrio del Pópulo. Cádiz, a traditional city that reveres the fried fish, was slow to come to plant-based dining. This place smashed down the barriers. We returned recently for the first time since 2019. We shared an appetizer of garlic mushrooms, then split two mains: barbecue seitan and chickpea curry. All were tasty and well-presented, though heavy on the salt. The best thing we ate was the mango flan.

Amazing food and lovely people! - Edit
With Vegan restaurants few and far between in much of Spain, it was great to find this all Vegan restaurant.
Read moreI had a great meal. I ordered the Seitan meatloaf with vegetables, followed by cashew cake and a cappucino with oat milk.
All really professionally presented and very tasty.
They also prepared eveything for me, even though they were preparing to close. That was really nice of them, so a big thank you.
Will definitely go back to try some other dishes when I am in Cadiz again.
Update - went back again and had the Morrocan Salad, Pear Tatane, Vegan Kebab and also Harira Stew. Then the Mango dessert. All of it was really good!!

Vegan restaurant with unusual dishes - Edit
Unfortunately Veganesa did not open until 8.30pm and then the service was slow to get going even though we were the only ones there for a while, it filled up with mainly locals as the evening went on. The menu was difficult to understand as it was not the usual vegan fare. So ordered slightly blind, when it arrived it was a sort of patty with roasted vegetables, which were rather oily. My husband opted for a burger. I had a small jug of Sangria, which was very good. It was a Saturday evening and there also appeared to be only 2 staff.

Fully vegan restaurant - Edit
I had the barbecue seitan. I liked the vegetables and the potatoes that came with it, but not the seitan. Not sure if it should taste like a traditional meat dish. Haven't eaten this kind of seitan before. Also the mango flan was just ok.

Vegan gem in Cadiz - Edit
I went to La Veganesa for lunch during a day trip to Cadiz. Google and iMaps both said it was closed the day I was there (Tuesday), but thankfully I went by anyway because it was open. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Service was great. The menu is quite large and has a variety of dishes, including food typical of the Andalucia region. I went with the server's recommendation - the pinchos veganos. While I waited for my food, she brought me an appetizer on the house that was like a potato salad with spinach and olive oil. It was very good. The pinchos were great. They were like seitan skewers that came with sautéed vegetables. Everything was fresh and made to order. Place is located on a quiet street and has indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend.

BEWARE WITH ALLERGY - Edit
I hate to leave a fully vegan restaurant a bad review but feel I have to warn others in case you plan on dining with a allergy. My friend has a nut allergy and is fluent in Spanish so no issue with a language barrier, however the allergy’s listed on menu weren’t correct and she spoke with the server before ordering to check. We ordered a few dishes, the first two received were nice and fine but the third dish had some kind of very fine (so hard to tell) nuts on top. Luckily she only had a tiny bit and she’s not anaphylactic but it made her ill and ruined the rest of the night which isn’t ideal on a short break. The server came over and took the dish away and apologised and of course took it off the bill. I feel a apology and taking the one dish off the bill wasn’t really a adequate response to making someone potentially very ill. Otherwise the food was fairly good, service was very slow - on a Friday night one server and one guy in the kitchen. Just be aware the allergy notes on menu can’t be trusted.
