Few options and pretentious

On a Saturday night we arrived after walking in the rain. We had reservations for outside but we're sat inside which was very noisy and crowded. Plant-based items were not clearly marked and the servers clearly didn't have time to answer questions about the food. They seem to be set up for regulars that know the menu well, because he didn't seem interested in answering any questions. We ordered the vegetable paella. It tasted good enough but in my opinion wasn't worth the $31 per person. The artichokes had tough pieces and there was a stiff herb stem that I almost swallowed and had to set aside. They are also very light on the non-alcoholic beverages. I didn't see any and when I told the server I didn't drink alcohol he didn't offer me anything else.

Pros: The paella was tasty, The restaurant is conveniently located, Restaurant that appeared clean

Cons: Few and poorly marked vegan dishes, Waiters did not have time to answer questions, Waterboy did not speak English so could not answer

Could be better

Like others said, there is no longer a separate vegetarian menu. I ordered the veggie pallela and it honestly was nothing to write home about. I also had two tapas that were veg but they were also nothing special.

nice outdoor dining

We went here last night based on HC reviews. They no longer have a separate veg menu but vegetarian items are noted on the menu. Our server didn't seem real clear on he difference between vegan and vegetarian. The sommelier recommended an excellent moderately priced wine for us and we had a couple of veggie tapas dishes and the veggie paella, which I am still not 100% sure was totally vegan. They said it was. It was delicious but not cheap at $28 per person with a minimum two person order. The outside dining was lovely. Old school attentive staff.

Odd occurrence..

Had an odd occurrence the last time my friends and I tried to dine here. We walked in and asked for a table for three, we were told there was only one table available in the corner.. which was not even in the main dining hall. Yet, we saw others being seated in the main hall! Well, after finally being seated, we waited a min of 15 minutes for our waiter to bring us menus. I asked for the vegetarian menu and all though there were items that seemed edible, we ended up walking out. No water, nothing, since we came in. Service was just slow and uninviting. I am guessing we were not dressed up enough..
Thank goodness Equinox was just around the corner, as everything was starting to close (after 7PM) in the area.

Pros: has vegan options, beautiful decor

Cons: slow waitstaff, uninviting mood

Haute Cuisine and Spanish Tapas

Down in the heart of the city, there are many upscale dining choices for non-vegetarians. What is a veg*n to do? Thankfully, there are some choices that help out the hungry veg*n looking for a haute cuisine experience DC style. This is an excellent venue when you are trying to impress someone for business, romance, family or otherwise.

The decor is very red, and the theme is very Spanish. The staff is incredible and attentive.

So, veg*ns, here's what you do: ask for the vegetarian menu! If you don't, you will sulk and be sad, and stare at the menu of what you cannot have. Also, if you are very sensitive, you may still want to avoid this place, as they have mussels and meat, seafood and the like.

If you can get past that and encourage your fellow diners to share in some vegan tapas, all the better! They have a lengthy 2 page vegetarian menu, with plenty of vegan choices. If you're unsure, ask your waiter - the kitchen can make some of the veg items vegan, but many already are.

For those interested, they have a sommelier to suggest excellent wine choices with your meal.

Good food choices include asparagus, peppers, spinach, paella and fresh fruit for dessert. However, I felt like eating here was more about the experience. The food is fresh and flavorful with incredible attention to plating and details, as the price tag would dictate, but it was the whole experience that made this exceptional.

Pros: Veg menu, Staff is incredible, Paella

Cons: Meat and seafood is present, Price
