Affordable Lunch Spot - Edit
Cute cafe with a long list of bakery items and sandwiches/burgers. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to my vegan requests. You definitely need to ask for vegan as most items (including bakery goods) are made with eggs or dairy. They have a vegan menu if you ask. They also offer vegan cheese made from almonds. Unclear if English is spoken as I spoke in Spanish. My boyf and I both ordered burgers (one veggie/one portobello) and fresh juices. All very tasty and very affordable. Definitely worth checking this spot out.

Mostly Veg - Edit
The meals are mostly vegetarian but can ask for vegan (Veganos) for breakfast/lunch (desayuno/almerzo) pero they also sell vegan groceries (like vegan meat). That in itself takes the place up 5 stars (where else are you going to get them)!

Full-Fledged Lunch Counter - Edit
First of all, La Sonrisa moved about a block and a half. It's now on the corner of Alvarado and Juarez.
Read moreAnyway, this all-vegetarian lunch counter has a mixture of Mexican and non-Mexican items. They have things like burritos, empanadas, rieles (similar to empanadas), pizza, spaghetti, salads, various breakfasts and juices. Most things had cheese (and/or egg) though, and things like the burritos and empanadas are pre-made, but they might be willing to make something from scratch if what's already available isn't what you want. Most items (burritos, empanadas, etc.) were between 15 and 25 pesos, and 2 or 3 items would make a complete meal.
Pros: convenient location, fast service, decent variety
Cons: not very vegan-friendly, food is just "ok"...not great
