Gelateria on the main pedestrian path by the lake in Varenna. Has a sign outside advertising vegan gelato. All vegan options are labeled and consist of fruit, dark chocolate, fig and cream, and bubblegum. The wafers are not vegan. Please ask knowledgeable staff about the cones.

After reaching Varenna by ferry on a hot day we made a pitstop at La Passerella Srl to have some vegan ice cream to cool down. We chose this place after reading the reviews on HappyCow and I must say that this place serves one of the most delicious and creamy ice creams we tasted during our stay in Italy.

La Passerella is a typical Italian ice cream parlour. They advertise their vegan options – it’s the fruit sorbets plus a dark chocolate sorbet. Usually, the fruit flavours are vegan in other ice cream parlours, too. The quality of the ice cream is good. But they aren’t really aware of veganism – I inquired for vegan options and ordered the ice cream in a cup, and got a waffle on top of it. So make sure to order your ice cream without a waffle!

Definitely go and enjoy dessert here. Was in Varenna for two nights and my kids had this 3 times. My daughter and I are vegan and the dark chocolate was crazy good. My son is not vegan and had regular / loved it. My husband is not vegan but loved the vegan chocolate and vegan lemon. I had a taste and wow- yum!!!

This place is right by the lake and has a sign advertising vegan gelato options. They had about 6 options when I visited: mostly fruit, but also chocolate, bubblegum and cream and fig. I had a cup of chocolate and cream of fig, and they were so creamy and delicious! The staff were knowledgeable about veganism and told me not to get the usual wafer as it wasn't vegan.
