Porfirio Diaz 1105, Colonia Centro, Oaxaca de Juarez (at Olivera), Oaxaca, Mexico, 68070

Serves meat, vegan options available. Has separate vegan and vegetarian sections (some of the vegetarian dishes can be vegan by omitting the quesillo/crema from the taquitos). The clearly labeled all-vegan items include hummus (garbanzos or lentils), chile relleno of seitan, and a veggie burger. Usually has a vegetarian menu del dia which might be veganizable. Atmosphere is casual. Also has a large selection of mezcales, and Mexican beers (including Oaxacan artisanal beers).

Mixed Feelings - Edit

Had the Vegan burger and stuffed pepper after reading previous reviews. Was nice to see a vegan menu although it is limited to maybe six items. The fact this restaurant has menus for Vegan and Paleo is a little depressing. The food is alright. This city has a lot of really bad attempts at vegan food. Anywhere else I would say this place isn't worth going. So far I don't see anything better though.

Lots to choose from - Edit

They have a separate vegan menu, they offer a seitan- stuffed pepper, a pasta, a salad and a burger (might have omitted something). Their menu of the day was vegetarian: a soup, tacos with salad -vegan if you omit the cheese the tiniest dessert ever, two minuscule slices of caramelised fig. The set menu was nice but not amazing. The seitan stuffed pepper and the chocolate mousse dessert were actually really good. I didn’t try the burger but it looked great on other people’s plates :). Their raspberry and pineapple water wad delicious!

Very vegan-friendly, good vibes - Edit

As others here have noted, La Jicara offers a pleasant atmosphere and a primarily vegetarian menu with several vegan options (which are clearly indicated on the menu).

During our visit, the daily set menu was also all vegan, but we opted for ordering several a-la-carte items. The chili relleno was good if a bit mild, and was served with a side of grilled veggies that were more flavorful than the chili itself. The vegan hamburger was quite good. The vegan ceviche (mushroom-based) was also pretty good. The most impressive feature of our meal, though, was dessert: "orgasmo de chocolate," a deliciously rich chocolate mousse cake.

There's also a tiendita (small shop) offering a particularly appealing selection of regional sweets, snacks, and healthy staples, of which many are vegan.

We found La Jicara to be one of the best midrange options for veg*n eating in Oaxaca, and the omnivores who ate with us also liked it.

Lovely little oasis with great food - Edit

Such a great space, with beautiful atmosphere and energy. Staff were very lovely, although we didn't speak much of the same language (me only English).
Vegan only menu was a treat. I had the Hommus to start which was super yummy and made really well.
Along with a black coffee which was rich and local tasting. When asked, they confirmed it was from Oaxaca.
My food also came out with another extra bread plate which is great for those with big appetites and in need of a full belly.
Noticed they even had a vegan banana bread and other vegan desert options (what a treat).
Music was super chilled and the courtyard where the seating is great.
The bookstore has some really cool stuff, with local artists items like stickers and printed things.
All in all a super great find, definitely head here if you are veg or vegan as there is a lot of love here for you.
Will be back again for sure.

Pros: lots of clearly marked vegan and vego options on m

Cons: a little further up from the main area, although t

love this place - Edit

A whole vegan section on the menu as well as vegetarian and paleo. Amazing space. Played great music. Very friendly staff. I came here several time during my trip and was never let down. A must visit for a relaxed afternoon away from the buzzing markets.
